1. The way of obtaining the wings likely stays the same, but there were some changes after first 4 seasons because the pip system changed.
2. End of season reward comes in form of titles for top 250, 100, 25, 10, 3, 2, 1. Nothing else.
3. I think the “animal” rank system is just a form of progression for pvp, similar to what levels are in pve. Also, back in the day you could only get pve armor/weapon skins in pvp from rewards which were tied to those ranks.
4. Based on my limited knowledge I assume that the meta stays pretty much the same until some balance update changes some skills and traits.
I hear you. Dagger’s are little small in the hands of my Norn War. But is there precedent for Wars using Daggers in GW1?
Yes. In Random Arenas there was build where warrior knocked target down with hammer and then swapped weapon to daggers for several quick attacks. This was basically one-shot combo if the target did not receive support. Here is link to the wiki page (similar to metabattle). http://gwpvx.gamepedia.com/Build:W/A_BB_Dagger_Warrior
It works pretty well with power amulets if you use it as kiting/chasing weapon and use the burst to lock opponent in place to land 100b or something else hard hitting. Also, with berserker amulet I have hit like 10k with final thrust on casters.
Last season I was in top 100 most of the season on my core warrior alt, dropped out in the last week but still stayed inside top 250. So you can play pvp without HoT, but you will most likely be at disadvantage. I personally was pretty useless in teamfights, but the build allowed me to kite pretty effectively outnumbered while having sufficient 1v1 possibilities.
Some of you probably know that most skills can be activated while jumping, similar to dodge jump. Also, you probably knew that leap skills, such as sword 2 (savage leap), reach further if you weaponswap before the animation is complete.
I combined these two techniques to do some long jumps with Headbutt, Whirlwind attack and shield bash. These jumps are normally not possible without sword.
How useful this is in practice is an another story, but at least it looks pretty cool. Please have a look:
From my experience, the size of your character may cause problems in pvp like you pointed out. But I’ve noticed it to be problem only against melee asura warriors. But bear in mind that my character is tallest HUMAN female, which is nowhere near as big as tallest male NORN. I suggest you to make a new character (Assuming that you have character slots left), tallest male norn, and try it in pvp before deciding whether or not to change your existing character’s gender. I can’t speak from PvE perspective but I hope I gave you some thoughts about the situation!
