I think the elementalist would be perfect as is if it were allowed to switch weapon sets like every other class. What is the point of having 4 attuments but not being able to switch out your burn gear for healing gear. Let us assign weapon sets to our attunements so they switch together- it would make things more fair considering we have the most micro-management of any class except engineer, which is also capable of better tanking/dps.
Anet has stated they want the Ele to be the “Jack of all Trades”, essentially means we can do everything other classes can do just not as good. So here is how we are not what Anet states they want us to be:
Thief can stealth – Anet must give the ele a stealth not as good as a thief but none the less we should have stealth
Ranger can trap and perma pet – Anet must give the ele traps, and perma pets
Mesmers can clone and portal – Anet must give the ele clones and portals
Guardians can create light fields – Anet must give the ele the ability to create light fields
So Anet if you stand by your word and want the ele to be the “jack of all trades” give us the ability to do everything other classes can do.. just not as good.
Anyone else have additions to the list?
Edit:
to those that may take this post as 100% serious.. don’t! Have fun with it and post things other classes can do that the ele can’t.. except for light fields.. really eles should be able to light field
I don’t see the elementalist as a jack of all trades perse, but rather a jack of all trades with regards to casting. Most casters in most games pick an area of magic like destruction fire, water, necro, etc. and specialize in it. The elementalist is only good when you know how to use the different attunements together, which means memorizing 4 different skill bars and finding a gear/trait combo that works will with your playstyle.
I think the ele is just fine. I do very well on bg’s and I am pretty noob to this game (though I did play GW1 and WOW). Try playing with different trait setups or go online and look at some popular builds. I discovered my own personally, but they should at least give you some ideas of where to start and how to play ele.
When I started about 2 months ago with ele, I thought they were so weak, but that was because I was still in the ‘Skyrim" mentality where you pick a magic tree or two and stick to this choice. I was running entire bg’s only using fire and occasionally water. Once I read up on elementalist micro-management and figured out which attunement combos fit me best, I started owning in no time.

So basically what condition classes are saying is use ALL of your available choices to make your class unique condition removers. This way there are 2 specs in the game, one spec puts tons of conditions on you and the other just tries endlessly to remove them. This does sound extremely fun does it not? I run heavy condition cleanse on my guardian but having to spec that way for every class would just plain be boring. So much for class diversity eh?
No. You have teams comprised of different specs and classes. Play as a team…
If you keep an elementalist specced for condition removal in your team, then you may not have these problems. As an elementalist, I can tell you that the reason we don’t spec for this often is because team-mates don’t even try to take agro off of us when we play support builds.
I am sure the other casters can remove conditions as well, though I dunno cuz I only play ele.
There aren’t actually many games with an official duel system…most games center around team pvp. I used to have lots of fun with conquer online back when 2dimensional was cool. Nothing like that in the world of 3d though, sadly.
Mesmer Greatsword has the same mechanic. It’s meant as an abstraction for how Longbows are meant for long distance and therefore awkward at close range, and I sort of like it.
I’m not raining on your parade, your post was well written and well thought out, just trying to be informative.
wouldnt a longbow do more damage at close range than at far range? i mean to me it seems that the wound would be more gruesome the closer the target is, plus you will be more accurate the closer a target is..therefore allowing easier targeting of weakpoints(the eyes, crotch, shoulders, knees etc)?
No. The arrow builds up momentum as it flies through the air, so a hit from 10 yards might penetrate the skin, whereas a hit from 30 yards is likely to pass through the body (assuming the arrow doesn’t hit a bone or become lodged in the chest cavity). It is really just simple physics.
Pets are a traditional aspect of the hunter class, so removing them altogether is out.
I agree they are not OP or noob friendly in this game like they are in most other games, but that isn’t necessarily wrong.
I have a feeling that they will continue to balance out the classes, but IMO they should add more skills to EACH class first and then worry about balancing.
Hello, I was a little late to this game, so sorry if some of this has been said. I really loved GW1 and I like this one too (though I miss the class structure from last game), but there are some things I think would be much improved upon. The number 1 disappointment in this game is that there are very few and fixed skills for each class. There should be different options and more than 5 basic skill slots. Right now, characters are pretty much homogenous, especially in pvp where everyone is same level and has same gear. Which brings me to the next point: I absolutely love that this game is NOT a gear grind like WoW and other MMO’s, but there still needs to be some unlockables and special gear that you get through pvp. The stuff I have found at vendors is a joke…they are the same stats as normal items with different look. All the upgrades in this game are basically skins. The upgrades shouldn’t be game-breaking, just maybe a slight advantage per each tier over the last.
I really think if they added some variety of options to the skill setups and allowed for some upgrading in pvp, this game would be a WoW killer for sure. As it is, this game gets boring after about an hour so I log off and play Call of Duty. But still a great game, so don’t get me wrong.
