Tons of game developers initially supported Direct3D only and later ported their games natively to OS X (and Linux for that matter) with OpenGL. There is nothing preventing Anet from doing the necessary research and making a proper port other than lack of initiative to do it the right way.
And by the way, everyone knows that dual booting is an option. The point is that it’s not and never should be the answer. If people on OS X wanted to use Windows to begin with then this discussion wouldn’t be a thing.

Tried to send a PM but got an error.
I like the pitch here and it seems like it may be what I’m looking for. Posted a thread here as well: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/NA-Looking-to-join-friendly-PvX-WvW-guild
Looking to join something already established (better organized/less likelihood of it dying) and drama free. Can we arrange a time to speak further?
Server: Devona’s Rest
Commitment: Casual/somewhat hardcore.
Play Times: Changes due to work. Usually during the afternoon, EST. Much more open on weekends.
VoIP: Highly prefer Discord, however willing to use mostly anything as long as it doesn’t have terrible OS X support.
Guild Size: Smaller preferred. Greater than 10 but less than 100 would be ideal.
Hi, I just want to have a good time with the game without any kind of stress or internal nonsense. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be available on a whim because of changing work schedules and other hobbies/activities. I’ve been playing often, but I’m not a good fit for guilds that practically require near constant active participation.
I’m a pretty low key guy and would rather be with other mellow, chill people. That’s it I suppose.
For those on the Mac version, scroll wheel will only work if trackpad gestures are disabled in the settings (they’re on by default).
I have heard using Wine Staging gives far better results but I have yet to try it.
Got around to trying this (with CSMT on). Saw absolutely no difference compared to normal Wine.
I keep getting the: The application “Guild Wars 2” is not open anymore." error.
I got this a couple times when quitting the game and trying to restart it soon after. What’s happening is that when GW2 runs there are two processes, one simply called Guild Wars 2 and another called cider. When this happened to me, the cider process was still running. Opening Activity Monitor and force quitting cider allowed me to start the game properly again.
Perhaps I’m just lucky, the game hasn’t crashed at all for me apart from the launcher a couple times.
Without a native port the game has to rely on CPU interpreting which is very taxing and slow. The game uses 40-50% total CPU for me whereas most others use 10-20%. Tried the game with Wine 1.7.52 and then again with 1.9.0 and CPU usage is a bit better, but overall performance is far worse. I have heard using Wine Staging gives far better results but I have yet to try it.
I bet this is partially responsible for a lot of the performance drop posts people have made lately. Mine is set to low but appears to be stuck on ultra, and LoD is always a heavy hitter. It might not be treated as a priority bug for them at the moment, but it’s a huge performance issue.
