Will GW2 ever make the skill system more open because in the first game character customization was extremely extensive and versatile due to the skill system and layout which worked really well but in GW2, as opposed to one where you could pick from thousands of skills, each character can only use their classes skills which in many cases is not very many skills.
If nothing else i propose that in GW2 the first 5 skills be reserved for classes of the primary chosen class and allow for those to be interchangeable depending on weapon to help improve character customization.
If the second character class returns like in GW1 it could work to where the next 4 skills be able to be of the secondary class this way the integrity of the class in not thrown away but retains it’s feel by keeping the first 5 skills based on class and weapon and the 10th skill or elite skill be reserved for primary class as well
this are just suggestions all would require a lot of balance changes though
I know this subject has been talked about a lot so I wanted to say the addition or a new heavy armor type class would be nice since there are three medium, three light, and two heavy classes.
As for new playable races Tengu I think would be the best choice since a lot of other races are listed as sub-standard intellect like the skritt.
please comment and join in
Also balancing will always be a challenge in a game of this nature because all the playable classes focus on different types of combat and have completely different play styles and skill sets .
I agree wielding a one handed weapon with 5 skills would be cool since most of the time if you duel wield two weapons of the same class your characters seems to not even realize they have a second weapon which just looks and feels weird. For example having two swords but only attacking with one instead of switching which you attack with. If characters would switch attacking between the two weapons it would make combat look a bit more fluid and less awkward at times.
Also yes balancing would take time for this concept I would like to see more variety in skills because in GW the amount of creativity was amazingly intricate but made for horrible balance issues I would like to see a happy medium between limited skill customization and crazy unbalanced skills that constantly need changes. Would also be nice to see duel class characters in GW2 like their was in GW but I doubt that will ever happen.
It would be nice to have more then one set weapon skill in skills slots 1-5 for each weapon based on class and weapon type. GW2 team please considering putting more skills that can be unlocked for each weapon based on class to allow classes that have fewer weapon choices can still have a variety of choices when it comes to combat or at least allow the player to adjust the skill order of skills 1-5 so players can customize their characters to fit their play style better.
In guild wars the predecessor to GW2 certain skills could only be used with certain weapons, similarly to how weapon skills work in GW2. I and I can assume many other players would love to see the addition of interchangeable weapons skills that vary weapon to weapon rather then having a set 5 skills based on your equipment. By doing this you limit a players ability to creatively fight their own unique way. While GW2 is a revolutionary and extremely unique game I feel the combat and pvp elements lack a bit from the extremely limited weapons skills. Certain classes like engineers and necromancers feel extremely heavily limited in this aspect as they can not equip nearly as many weapons as the warrior class. I suggest that arena.net add skills that are weapon specific that are also interchangeable to open up new possibilities for PvP as well as PvE play.
