I’d still like them to add more horizontal progression. A Sigil and Rune here and there, 2 skills and three new traits since launch is a bit slow. 2 years in and its still Zerker/Scholar Stack with the exception of a few events it seems. I hope with the longer breaks and more focus on feature patches they can bring some cool stuff to the table until then … ZERKER BARBIE!!!

Title pretty much says it all. It seems like once a month releases until November 4th. Has the every two weeks model been abandoned? Or partially abandoned?

Hey there, I took a break of a bout nine months from GW2. I’m looking for a smaller guild where people actually no each other. A guild that likes to run dungeons, and fractals. More PvE oriented than anything else. I’m located on Tarnished Coast but from my understanding with the Megaserver it doesn’t really matter where I am located. Feel free to contact me via the forum or in game. Thanks for reading.

I don’t think it should be looked as “making them do GW1,” especially after all the garbage I read about play your way. The whole premise of GW2 supposedly is you don’t have to do everything. By that logic, you don’t have to have the cool Armour skins from GW1. It would be something people could work for and that’s one difference between GW and GW2, the content in GW is permanent. GW2 is here one day gone the next. I also think it would be a nice reward to the GW player base since they already got neglected for six years and then finally abandoned.

GW1 players are a minority?

What really bugs me about reading some of the responses and playing both GW and GW2 is that it really seems like ANET pulled a bait and switch on the username that made them. If you look at the development of Guild Wars they made content for a year and a half before they decided they needed to make a sequel. I’ve heard the arguments about skill balancing being a pain but let’s get real, horizontal progression is not easy. It requires constant tweaking. That is why everyone chooses to go the vertical progression route in their games. Guild Wars stood apart from the crowd but its sequel is becoming a part of it. They are just trying to do the same old recipe differently and I fail to see how it is going to be successful. I still play Guild Wars and I find myself barely able to log on to GW2 anymore. Everyone I have met over the past year has quit. Some played longer than others but for the most part everyone I have known is gone.

And now Guild Wars is going into complete automation mode with no content updates. The final abandonment from ANET, hopefully one day the show number comparisons between the two titles. Anyone else out there that is dissatisfied with GW 2 should come back to GW. They will be welcomed with open arms.

TL:DR kitten moan kitten GW better than GW 2, everyone come back to GW

Why would they allow you to make crystals that they can charge you for?

Because it’s a viable business model?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t disagree and I think it would be cool. I just don’t think they are going to do it because the new ANET seems to be more concerned with business than art. Quantity over quality.

Agree with you completely but Horizontal Progression also implies skills and traits which isn’t happening either … just a crazy plant.

Armor skins are an important part to your endgame horizontal progression. You must reward players these without using current ingames currently only. I know what you may be saying, thats stupid! However, current in game currencies are not satisfiying to use. If they’re not that means that players will easily buy them and they dont get the same satisfaction out of them.

For starts time frame. You should be introducing new armors in the game (not just in the gem shop, the actual game) every 1 1/2 to 2 months. The biggest and most important part is how players unlock these. Players must do something that is hard. Something that requires skill. Something that can be done with a few players. See the biggest issue tequatl has is that it requires all these people. I’d recommend organizing something with a minimum of 8 players in mind. Then scale the event to fit players larger than that. This means players will have to interact with the community to some extent, but it doesn’t take a huge amount of people like tequatl.

Lets talk about this event that will unlock it and how it unlocks the new armors. So say you introduce a new armor set for each type (heavy, medium, light). Lets just use the light set as an example. This light set can be obtained by doing certain things in one zone. What these “things” are are not timed to timers. They must seem random to promote exploration and they must not just suddenly appear. An example would be to put the light armor events in caldeon forest. At a minimum I’d say 7 areas inside the map could have the event that would give you the chain. Do not put a big marker on the map to show people where it is. Do it similar to a dynamic event. The difficult of them should be on the level of a guild challenge/queens gauntlent. You must challenge the players so you dont just afk attack like in champion trains or some world bosses. Some may be saying, why not just use guild challenge? Guild challenges use a UI to tell them where it is. It doesn’t promote exploration, it is timed, it is guild only, and it is not immersive at all because of the UI. So me and my party explore caldeon forest to look for the event to help one of our friends get the armor. Somone in map chat killed him. Ah alright, the event would have a 5-10min cooldown and then it would start again in a randomly selected area out of the 7. Here is an example in Caldeon.

Ruins of the Unseen- Skritt have found an ancient artifact of the Unseen and activated its power. You must stabilize the rift that has form from killing many of the surrounding wild life! The event would start, again it would challenge the players and require teamwork. Should they fail the event (dont just make a mission fail to a timer or to some npc dieing, gotta put in more ways that events can fail. NPC escorts are frustating for a lot of players. Timers get boring after a while), then the event would go on cd for 5-10mins and then spawn somewhere else.

Once a player completes the event they get a token. Only one and you can only get one token a reset. You take this token to the NPC in the zone and you can exchange it for one piece of the armor set. You can also exchange it for some gold (1g at the very least since it will be hard) so those who cant use light will have a point in doing it.

Do something similar for each armor type. This may seem like a lot of work, but it will keep players involved and something to do in the game. Something that can’t just be bypassed with some gold or karma.

What about WvWers? If WvWers deeply desire these armor sets and don’t want to do PvE at all, you can offer the armor set for a considerable amount of badges and ascended mats (ones you get from champions only, not crafted).

So with the new zones being released, and already considerable amount of zones to choose from, this system will do a ton for the game. It will offer challenging PvP content, an addition to the small gear look progression in the game, and it will begin to populate dead zones a bit better. With each new zone you have a new choice for a new set of quest and armor.

This is not hate thread so please don’t.
Also don’t post everywhere that devs are lazy and such….

Since launch I was a big fan of going from GW1 to GW2.
I know those are separate games, classes, mechanics etc…

But world, lore and history are just one and you can’t deny it.

At launch we hot 3 armors from GW1 and I think everyone were sure that we will get more soon, but developers went another way. Many people in comunity almost begged for more armors from GW1, but it didn’t happened. Basically I don’t recall any announcement, but after some time we got newly designed armors when they finally were added to gem store.

I thought, OK it’s a philosophy ‘lets discard old and make only new ones’. I kinda accepted that and though ‘you can make new ones, hopefully you will make them very good’, Many armor skins were really good (maybe aside from heavy armors that would have that knight look on Norn, but I will leave with that).

NOW we for the first time got reused skins. That was a kind of blow for me, cause I see those as a kind of side job made in few hours of work and thats it.

WHAT I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND is why if you have armor designed for GW1, that people for over half of year begged on forums. If you want to add something just reserve time on making it. If you don’t have a design or idea, use GW1 armors that people still want (I’m sure there are more people who want them than only me). Please don’t more of those easy and kinda poor reuses when you have such an amazing catalog of armor in GW1…

I know that there is a lot of work with those, maybe you have to redo the from the start or you have to at least make them scaled and changed for all 5 races instead being only for humans.
Yet, that would really make many people very happy. Everyone would also have a reason to buy them and don’t feel betrayed or cash grabbed.

People still consider those 2 of 3 first armors best designed in entire shop.

For those of you who don’t know that I’m talking about, please visit GW1 wiki, go to armors and look for all the designes. Basically every class has multiple designed armors just for that class. It’s a full closed of armors that have even 3D files that can be used at least as a concept arts.

I think bringing the skins from Guild Wars would be cool but they could add it as another feature or benefit of playing Guild Wars. Why not make it so if you had the armor in GW1 you can pull it off the merchant in the Hall of Monuments.

The only problem with this though is it seems to be antithethical to ANETs new philosophy of charging people for all new skins. I have been playing for over a year now and there has yet to be new armour skins that one didn’t have to pay money for. Lots of shoulder pieces that I don’t use, lots of back pieces that I don’t use, lots of mish mash that really don’t go with anything. I honestly would love some type of dress or skirt with a matching chest piece that didn’t make my mesmer look like a kitten but that’s me.

Weapon skins? How many new weapons skins have we gotten this year that didn’t require one to gamble? There were the Jade Dragon Skins with Dragon Bash … The ones with the Twilight Arbor patch … do we count the one with Tequatl since it is just a died version of ascended? Oh, yes, Ascended skins.

What annoys me is that I really don’t like any of the skins. I like some of the Legendary Weapon skins but that is about it. Guild Wars 1, I’m trying to figure out which armour set and weapons I want first.

The Hall of Monuments is however a ruin in GW2s time, most likely due to everyone fleeing when Jormag turned up, so making it more alive doesn’t really make much sense.

I just looked up the wiki, it is only in a state of disrepair and the Far Shiverpeaks have been abandoned by the Norn. Lots of Ice Brood … Sounds like a great idea for an expansion or living story that takes place in the area as a QoL update

If the area were so dangerous than why do we teleport in and out at will. It seems to be undiscovered by the Icebrood. Secret Base.

GW2 is not GW. Most likely reason this isn’t in game is because this would be a balancing nightmare.

GW1 was a balancing nightmare. There were over 1600 skills across all professions, including PVE-only skills. There was no way they could ever come close to balancing all of them if they tried, and the added problem of secondary professions only complicated matters.

During early GW2 development, they considered keeping secondary classes but ended up removing them. I completely understand why they did this, and it’s the reason that all of our skills and traits do not get buffed or nerfed every week like they did in GW1. This is good thing. If you decided to take a 6 month break from GW1, you could expect to come back and find that your entire skill bar worked differently than it used to. It got really, really ridiculous.

There is still plenty of room for good, homegrown builds in GW2. Just use your imagination and make sure to take advantage of different gear loadouts, sigils, runes, etc. If you copy and paste your build from a site somewhere thinking it’s the ONLY thing that works, you haven’t fully explored the potential of your class.

Granted there are less options than there were in GW1. But like I said, in a roundabout way, it’s a good thing.

New skills for GW2 would be great, however, and Colin Johannsen already stated that they are coming soon, so I’m looking forward to that.

I don’t necessarily think it is a good thing to have less balancing issues if it translates into less fun. I have actually just started playing Guild Wars and now I can hardly bring myself back to complete a daily. The game is just more fun, and right now the story telling is much more interesting (sorry Scarlet). Sometimes it seems like they are trying to put Guild Wars 2 on automation. The idea of balance is a ridiculous concept when you are talking about horizontal progression which is what I thought Guild Wars 2 was supposed to be about. If progression is not vertical whether one skill is equal to another skill is going to be a matter of opinion, and there will always be skills that are useless.

I belive they are using some kind of tracking system are they not? What skills are used the most? What traits are used the most? All in the attempt to make it so everyone is using every skill and trait equally? Sounds great in theory but I doubt it is ever going to happen. Now if they gave us more options … more diversity … something seems out of hand, nerf it and people will find something new.

I really really hope there are new skills coming. I have been holding out for nearly a year for the “horizontal” progression we were promised and I have yet to see it materialize, and I have begun to lose hope and patience.

Since this is a “suggestion” forum, I hope this is the correct place to put this topic. I have just recently started playing GW after playing GW2. I have discovered that Guild Wars was actually an incredible game, I am absolutely loving it. What I would like to see (beyond more content being added to Guild Wars) is a better integration of GW into GW2. One example of which would be the Hall of Monuments. I think it would be cool if the Hall of Monuments was more than a rundown Hall with a guy that gives you skins. I think it is a poor implementation of the Hall of Monuments concept. I think the place should be alive, a place that people actually want to go. It would be neat if you could actually look at your Hall of Monuments from GW in GW2, and show it to other people.

At a minimum the lights need to be turned on … right now it is just a damp and dark hole in the wall … where you can get skins you might or might not use. It would be interesting if someone could devise a reward system that transfers from GW into GW2. I don’t think the games have to be mutually exclusive and it would be really cool to see some integration of the two titles beyond what we have now. Thank you for taking the time to read.

I am guilty of stacking, but I never do it “just to make things easier and skip content”

It’s really all about strategy for me. Why, with an army of 5 people against 20 to 30 irate Svanir would I suggest everyone split up so we all have to face 4 targets alone, when we could all pull together and force the enemy into a position where we want them? It’s a tactical advantage, and something you’ll notice NEVER works in WvW for one important reason: your enemies are other players. The AI already flee from constant AoE attacks…

Why change something that works and only serves to illustrate how you can play smarter instead of just running in without a strategy? I pose that I have more fun playing in dungeons because of this teamwork, not despite of it, and I’m sure I’m not alone there.

On another side note: I’m not saying I’m innocent. I stack but I think one would be hard pressed to find anyone who does not.

I agree with your point but I cannot think of an instance where you are facing 20 – 30 mobs in a dungeon except for the little spiders in AC. The dungeon runners as of late want to stack on everything. The problem is that it works, unfortunately, and doesn’t require too much effort. It doesn’t work in WvW because your opponent would be like, “Oh, thank you for standing in a group and standing still.” (Cue Holy Hand Grenade).

Side Note: Stacking doesn’t work against the kamikaze little robots at the console in CoE does it? I’ve never seen anyone try.

Since I was doing my first post, I’ll create a second thing suggest a solution to something else I find troublesome. Dungeons, when the game first came out they were actually fun to play. They were never difficult, and I was in a guild that went through and killed everything in the dungeon. Now you cannot find a group that doesn’t run through every mob that isn’t a boss, and when you reach said boss you end up stacking a majority of the time. Oh, and if you do decide to fight non-bosses, you stack. Add a mechanic that allows mobs to wipe out parties if they decide to stack. We have Elites, give mobs elites that hurt. If people are going to bunch up into a nice tight little target, kill them. Throw a grenade … be done with it. One nice thing about The Molten Facility is that it seemed that people were incapable of running through all the mobs (or due to some miracle chose not to). Whatever you did there, add it to all the other dungeons. Or simply get rid of the deaggro range … or just get rid of deaggro period. Especially in Orr, they’re undead, its not like they have something better to do than run after our kittenes.

There should be a random timer placed on Champions to kill the trains. Or create an event chain leading up to a spawning of a Champion to kill the trains. Or make Champions like World Bosses, you can only kill each one once per day per account and you get a rare from it. Or actually scale the kitten things up in difficulty to account for hundreds of people attacking them. Add mechanics and damage that wipe out half the zerg. Honestly, everything in the game that allows some to just stand there, auto attack, and get rewarded should be nerfed. The Aetherblades in the invasion are a good example of a proper champion fight. At least during the Aetherblades one is required to move. Quite often during Aetherblade events I had the opportunity to see a large portion of people downed and sometimes myself.

Thank you, my first post after a year, proceed to troll.
