Does lore matter?

Fractal work started back in August, which is when players first encountered Scarlet and around when the votes were tallied.

The devs have explained more than once that they plan the living story updates months ahead, so any changes they make based on our feedback take a few months to be brought live.

To be honest, I think we’re just going to have some very awkward months ahead of us. The whole long-term Scarlet plot has been planned out long before she first appeared and before the playerbase began to manifest their overwhelming distaste for her – myself included.

Now the devs are fully aware not only of how disliked Scarlet is, but also of how poor of a character she appears to be. I’d wager they’re not awfully happy with her either. However, at this point, it’s simply too late to change course and give another direction to the living story. So let’s just brace ourselves and endure Scarlet for the next few updates and hope it will all be somewhat wrapped up together at the end.

Tribulation Mode - I am ready

So part of preparing for a TM run, you’ll be ‘leveling up’ your ‘life meter’ by collecting as many lives and Continue Coins as you can.

This is the part that worries me. In the games used as examples, infinite lives seem to be a staple. On the other hand, are we going to have to grind for Continue Coins on regular mode in order to be able to do Tribulation Mode?

Titles no longer display in WvW?

Now, Devon, it’s clear you guys agree that titles can be unsightly clutter.

So why stop at WvW? Why do we have to put up with titles even in PvE? Sure, in PvE it isn’t as intense a problem as it was in WvW, but it’s still annoying to be forced to see unnecessary grey text around my screen that adds nothing to my play experience. Specially when the only alternative is turning off names altogether, which is detrimental to gameplay.

Yes, titles are way too intrusive now. We need an option to disable titles without having to remove names altogether.

Quite frankly, I don’t see how giving a few minor options to let players customize this aspect of their play experience can be a bad thing.

Leave the titles as they are now!

BUT! You CANT! take away my titles now without a FIGHT!

You can have as many titles as you fancy; I just don’t want them shoved up on my eyeballs.

Let’s calm down a bit, this isn’t getting us far. Instead let me ask this.
Here are the assumptions that I’m operating under for this question:
1. You feel that PvE and TP have difference levels of gold earning
2. You feel that PvE and TP should have the same level of gold earning

I subscribe to those assumptions as well. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m an almost exclusively PvE player, who has been playing consistently since August 25. I enjoy not only dungeons, but also to go around the world exploring and finding new events and stuff.

For the last few months, I’ve been running CoF path 1 around three times each day (enough to go through an omnom bar), and that’s how I’ve earned most of the ~ 290g that I’ve been able to save. I’ve never made any extravagant purchases, but I’m thinking of buying cultural tier 3 armor for my beautiful female norn warrior.

Legendaries? Yes, I’d like very much to have 1 or 2 in the distant future. Juggernaut, for example, sure looks great, but the precursor alone costs double the entirety of my lifetime earnings. Maybe it’ll drop off a random spider somewhere eventually, but this doesn’t look like a reliable plan to obtain one. On the other hand, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to save enough to buy it from the TP through my usual playing habits either.

What would be your plan for implementing a reward system that would achieve what you desire, given the constraint that you may not get rid of the trading post?

John, quite frankly, I don’t know how to answer your question. I know little about game design or virtual economies, so I’m not going to try to argue with you about economics or reward systems. All I can do is to give you my perspective and tell you about what it feels like to play the game from my experience.

I loathe using the TP. Not only in GW2, but in any other game I’ve played that has an auction house. Sure, I’ll use it when needed, but I think that this game has a wonderful world that is a lot more interesting than the TP. I mean, I’m playing GW2 to do combat, exploring, socializing, rather than slave away at than the slow loading, clunky TP screen. Do you enjoy using the TP? Great, more power to you – but I don’t.

Still, I feel that the only (or vastly more efficient) way to acquire certain items is through the TP. I’m not talking only about precursors, but any other mats for legendaries. Tier 6 materials, lodestones, silver doubloons. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you that it’s better to save gold and buy them from the TP than to go through the trouble of farming them yourself.

As other people have mentioned in this thread, for once we were able to actually farm through combat something efficiently – ectos – but it was shot down immediately. I find it frustrating to rely so much on the TP and to be left behind the inflation curve if you’re not some kind of TP wiz.

Anyway, John, as I said, this isn’t much of a plan for implementing a reward system. This is just my sincere feedback. I’m not sure if it’s important or what you can do with it, but this is all I can give you.

[help] how to story reset?

in Personal Story

Being able to reset or replay the personal story would be interesting. I enjoy the quests that envolved Claw Island and I wouldn’t mind knowing I could go through them again.

As for resetting the personal story, why not just discard everything and go back to the last steps of character creation, where you choose backstory and stuff? It would reset all progress on the quest log at the hero panel and all changes at the home instance.

Here’s an idea: make it a gem store item – an “elixir of forgetfulness” or something. It would make it harder for peeps to restart their personal story by accident and also make sure that restarting it would not be a decision to be taken inconsequentially. Maybe we could also even have another gem store item that allows race change along with personal story reset.

Boss mechanics redesign

Defiance makes classes with CC and low damage not very good.

There is a reason people are stacking warriors with a mesmer and one guardian. You brute force everything because the finesse of CC is not needed.

Imagina a boss that ignored damage from a specific class like a warrior and mesmer until a number of stacks is removed. Defiance disproprotionately hurts classes that weren’t given warrior/thief damage because supposedly their control/conditions were supposed to compensate for the gap. With bosses, they don’t.

This.

Even as a warrior, defiance makes pure dps weapons (greatsword, axe) clearly superior to control oriented weapons for killing bosses. I love my hammer. I love swinging around a heavy object and smacking monsters on the head with it. But it’s feels pretty underwhelming when I’m the only one applying CC to a boss and I have to cycle through skill 4, skill 5 and burst skill multiple times to finally be able to disable the boss for 2 measly seconds.

Personal story trophies?

Maybe these items (or something else they symbolize) could physically appear at the home instance.

In fact, some of them already do. For example, my norn warrior destroyed Romke’s horn, joined the Order of Whispers and aided the hylek. After each of those events, a few npcs showed up at her home instance: the kodan Followed By Night, the Order lady who recruited me and a bunch of hylek.

It would be great if it was something more consistent, though. Each major story step, specially the ones you choose, could be represented in there by something that you could interact with. Might be a way to add a little bit more of relevance to the home instances.

Why was armor preview disabled?

Thank you for the response!
I’m relieved now and looking forward to the improvements in the preview function. Could we perhaps expect something along these lines:

- full glow effects on weapons that currently don’t show them
- the ability to try dyes you have unlocked on the armor previewed
- preview function on the trading post

Option to Preview Armors Outside Our Profession

I second the OP’s concerns.

They talk about armor clipping and texture issues when previewing gear of different types. It’s true, there are such issues, but they are very minor. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ve never been bothered in the slightest if a couple of gear models of different types conflicted at the preview. These issues just don’t compare with the practicality, ease and fun of being able to preview any armor piece on any character (excluding cultural pieces, naturally).

So please, devs, reconsider this change. It was hurting no one to begin with.

Bring Previewing back.

I support this suggestion. As I said on the thread where they confirmed it was an intended change:

I urge you to please go back in this decision. The clipping issues when previewing armor of different types are a very minor issue that is not game breaking at all. You’re pretty much just nerfing fun here. On a game that is supposed to be about cosmetics and prestige skins, being able to browse skins and take a look at interesting visuals should be made as easy as possible.

No more 'preview' for all armor types?

I understand where the devs are coming from. When previewing pieces of different armor types, I’ve seen on occasion conflicting models.

However, I must say I strongly disagree with this change. It’s a lot more convenient, practical and – yes – fun to be able to preview any armor piece on any character (cultural armor excluded). On a game that is supposed to be about cosmetics and prestige skins, being able to browse skins and take a look at interesting visuals should be made as easy as possible.

So I urge you to please go back in this decision. The clipping issues when previewing armor of different types are a very minor issue that is not game breaking at all. Your’re pretty much just nerfing fun here.

Armor clipping:

This is the top tier fine/masterwork armorsmithing set. My voluptous female norn warrior has the fullest body type, and her booty clips against the back of the skirt when she stands idle. There’s also some slight clipping going on in the front of the chest piece.

This bug is particularly disappointing to me because this set is the one used at the character creation screen, and the default female norn warrior’s body type has no clipping issues. I thought the armor skin looked awesome and looked forward to using it as I created the character, only to find a bug with my favored body type
