Swamp is the best fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

You can climb and jump over the walls that appear.

We’re well aware of it, and I feel fine with it. The walls that appear can be random, and I’m always in favor of player ingenuity to solve time sensitive problems.

“time sensitive” is an understatement.

i was doing the swamp one just now, and after an hour and a half, we gave up. the reason? as soon as we got close to any of the potential tree walls, they’d rise. all of them, with no exception, to the point where the entire area surrounding the altar was impossible to go through.

and that’s not even talking about all the zig-zagging that has to be done, encouraging players to just keep resetting the wisps until they get a somewhat favorable layout.

seriously. permanent swiftness, movement speed signets (the thief one), 1200 range shadowstep (when the game didn’t outright deny me my shadowstep and teleported me to where i was instead of where i was aiming at) and avoiding all traps, and we still couldn’t get within 20ft of the area because of all the walls raising.

please tell me it’s not intentional, because it makes no sense. there’s no pattern, they just raise all at once and won’t go down until minutes after we’ve failed.

Did you actually read the post you quoted? Because if you had you’d realise everything you just said is a moot point.

yes i have, and no it’s not moot, when you consider that the whole “jumping over” thing was not originally intended, and that it can often lead to players getting stuck in the geometry, due to its unplanned nature.

Maybe it was planned? Who knows! All I can say is that I haven’t once gotten stuck, and neither has anyone else I know who’s being doing it that way.

The ‘jumping points’ seem to be too well placed for this to be an unplanned coincidence.

As I said it my first post, I’ve had entire sections cut off before, leaving jumping as the only option. And when was the last time ANet (or any other game dev) were ‘fine’ with people jumping over/through stuff they shouldn’t have been?

I second or third the comments on the jellyfish boss. I haven’t tried it, but I am quite sure you could set the whole party to auto attack and AFK.

Dolphins are ok, the lights I can’t do at all.

On the swamp thing, that’s been a killer for my parties. I guess we need to recruit more mesmers – thieves.

No you can’t, we tried it

Whilst I agree that ANet should probably implement some sort of ‘keep alive’ system so that dc’s from events/dungeons doesn’t have such an impact, ask yourself why you disconnected but thousands of others didn’t? The only people that I know who had lag or dc’s were people with sub par Internet. I’m in the UK so only get 10mb and I had no problems. You can’t blame all your dc issues on ANet or their servers.

The swamp is actually fairly easy, but I’m not sure if we’ve been doing it the intended way.

If not, it’s down-right impossible without a very specific group set up, even if you dodge every trap. We’ve had times when the entire top bit get’s closed off, or you have to run in a Z shape to get to the wisps (which isn’t possible even with swiftness up 100% of the time, and no mobs putting you in combat), which is why I’m 90% sure we’re doing it correctly, even if it isn’t obvious…

Upset at the Consortium Chests

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Hel.6340

Hel.6340

You weren’t around for Halloween were you? See, they did this same thing with BLC and keys. And people were really mad. Players pretty much declared en masse that they were done buying keys.

So…Anet introduces a new chest for an event that doesn’t require keys.

Their solution to people raging over spending money to unlock chests on a gamble was to sell unlocked chests instead.

I think Crystin may have totally missed the point somewhere…but this still amused me and had me laughing out loud for a good few minutes. It just didn’t amuse me enough to make me want to spend money on a slot machine again.

Lol seriously. It’s like anet is out of touch with its player base, but then again they’ve been showing that since launch.

Actually considering that posts like this are still cropping up, I think they’re borderline genius.

Mist Dungeon

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Hel.6340

Hel.6340

My biggest problem with this WHOLE dungeon scaling and stuff.
Most players cant even complete a dungeon on explore mode. Let alone communicate in a civil manner. And no offence ArenaNet but this is going to exclude allot of players that are not, up to this task. I through you aim was for everyone to enjoy the game and get to see the high end content? This pretty much gives them the finger, that they cant get the better drops. Its being very exclusive… Which is making me worry about, when you add new content. Aka new dungeons to the game that are permanent in the future.

To be brutally honest, if “most” players can’t complete dungeons in a civil manner, this is not ANet’s fault.

Why should they have to design content around rude and obnoxious people? They have it right to be honest, if people can’t get a long with each other and be civil, then they can’t do the content. Those players have no one but themselves to blame.

Fix Old Content Before Adding New

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Hel.6340

Hel.6340

It’s common knowledge that new content and bug fixing old content is done by separate teams.

Colin Johanson Outlines Guild Wars 2 Live Game Development

Live Security—You’ve heard from this team’s coordinator, Mike Lewis, already on our forums, so you’ve seen some of their early work and long-term plans already. Our security team is focused on fighting bots, spammers, and account thieves. They work closely with customer service in those areas.

Live Response—The Live Response team is focused on fixing bugs, addressing game feedback, and balancing the game. You’ve seen a lot of their work already in the update notes.

Living World—The Living World team is focused on adding new content to the game world. This team will be adding and refining the types of content you already know in PvE and WvW, as well as developing new features and rewards.

PvP/E-Sports—This team is dedicated to supporting and building the competitive PvP community. They will be building new features that help support the growth of Guild Wars 2 as a competitive game. Jonathan Sharp will be sharing more on this in the near future.

Holidays & Events—Our Holidays & Events team will be creating a variety of special holidays in Guild Wars 2, building on the long tradition of amazing holidays in Guild Wars. You can likely guess which holiday you will see from this team first, and I recommend that everyone check our website next week for more information about this exciting first event.

On top of holidays, this team will also be creating in-game one-time events that occur and can change the world or drive narratives that come to a finite conclusion across the world.

Mac & Performance—This team is focused on development for Guild Wars 2 for the Mac. You’ve seen them recently release the Mac Beta Client as their first major project. They’ll also be focusing on client performance, helping ensure the game runs well on the widest range of hardware going forward.

Bonus teams—We will sometimes be creating additional teams not listed above. These teams will build specific cool features or events we decide we want to do outside of the scope of the other live teams. (Spoiler: We have some of these teams hard at work right now, and you’ll be seeing the first results of their efforts in November.)

Lastly, we have our Commerce team. You’ve heard from John Smith, our economist from this team, recently, and you’ll be seeing many additions from our friends in the Black Lion Trading Company in the future.

How will the new map effect 100% world completion?

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Hel.6340

Hel.6340

I got Ascalon completion before exploring all of Ascalon, after they added a few extra areas to some of the maps of the region.

I’m assuming it’ll be the same. If you have 100%, you won’t lose it. If you don’t, you will now have a ‘leeway’, so you won’t need to explore everything for 100%.

The other possibility is another extra reward for 100% every time a new map gets added, and those who already have 100% get it after they explore the new areas.

I really hope this is not how it works, because if ANet keep adding new zones, eventually you’ll only need to explore say 20% of the world, for 100% completion.

I know that’s a long way off, but that would be a bit naff.

If they take away 100% for those that already have it, it gives more incentive for people to stay up to date with the game.

2 theories on the sylvari

in Lore

Posted by: Hel.6340

Hel.6340

The pale tree is stationary. The sylvari are created as drones to allow the pale tree to interact with the world. It’s not much different than ants or bees. They can’t reproduce on their own either, but the queen keeps churning them out. Workers, soldiers…whatever is needed to reach out and meet the needs of the colony.

What produces the seeds that make the pale trees themselves is the bigger question.

Actually a very good analogy.

2 theories on the sylvari

in Lore

Posted by: Hel.6340

Hel.6340

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I think your argument is fundamentally flawed.

After all, humans reproduce, to reproduce, and by the above logic, it is a pointless endeavor. Whether it is or not is an entirely different philosophical discussion.

Sylvari ‘produce’ to increase knowledge, the more sylvari that are knocking around, the more knowledge they attain as a race. You could argue that the sylvari way has more of a point to it. It also ties into the ‘defense mechanism’ theory (which I like btw), knowledge = power.

As for the point that they would be aware of it, that’s not necessarily true. Animals and humans reproduce because that is what they are programmed to do. Yes it may seem like a conscious decision to have kids and it usually is, but at the end of the day, sexual arousal is there for a reason, and that reason is to encourage reproduction. We only know that this because of scientific studies, but I’m willing to bet those dogs going at it in the local park aren’t aware of this fact.

Hel.6340

I seem to remember reading something about this but can’t find it now for the life of me.

In the Mac Client, on a late 2012 MBP 13", the graphics look horrible. It looks like I’m running the game at a really low resolution, however the settings are set correctly, and text and menu’s (eg inventory) look perfectly crisp. Everything else is really blurry, with jagged edges. I’ve also tried setting to max allowed settings.

Now, before people say it’s the hardware not being up to scratch, it runs perfectly in Windows 7 and 8 using bootcamp with the same settings.

So is there something I need to change? Or is this not possible to resolve, and I should just keep using bootcamp, or is this something ANet are working on? I assume it’s something to do with Cider?

This isn’t really a massive issue, as I have a gaming rig, but the only thing I use bootcamp for on my MBP is GW2, so would be nice to do away with it :P

(I work in IT, so I’m somewhat of a computer expert, however, I’m no where near an expert with Mac’s from a technical software point of view, so idiot proof instructions/explanations would be appreciated)

Stealth nerf on ecto drops

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Hel.6340

Hel.6340

They reduced something, that’s for sure.

Either the Ectos you get per salvage was nerfed, or the number of rare items dropping randomly.

You don’t need to do any math specific stuff, just check the TP.
Just like the Dye incident, without ever telling anyone, people noticed the large supply of dyes and the demand wasn’t as high, so prices dropped fast.

If ectos prices raised 5~6s in a couple of days it’s pretty sure something was done. Now’s a good time to sell yours if you had some stocked.

Bots got banned. Less supply, prices go up. Simples.

That alone accounts for the increase in price. Also, if people payed attention, they’d realise that it’s not just ecto prices that have gone up.

That’s like looking on the TP, seeing that all prices have gone up, and saying EVERYTHING has had it’s drop rate reduced.

Digital Legion’s… Legions are about to march forth!

http://digital-legion.com/

See our launch trailer here: http://youtu.be/2ijXk-7_ybM

Founded on June 4th 2003 in the original MMOFPS Planetside under our original name, The 58th Marine Corp (The Wildcards), we fought for the New Conglomerate on the Werner server. As an outfit we experienced fantastic success; having one of the most organised and skilled player base in the game and at our peak we were a leading force in the formation and management of the NC Werner Alliance (NCWA).
Since Planetside we have played countless games as a community, from the Battlefield Series to Call of Duty, World of Warcraft to Star Wars: The Old Republic, Command and Conquer to Starcraft, we have a genuine love of video games!

If you are looking for a guild of like minded layabouts and a chilled out atmosphere then we might be for you. Browse our forums and our website to get an idea of what we are about and if you like what you see drop an introduction on the forums

If you’d like to sign up to join our ranks in Guild Wars 2, or any other game we play for that matter then sign up on this site and visit the Applications & Introductions forums to make your application!

In Guild Wars 2 we have all types of members, from PvP nuts, to PvE’ers’, to crafters, to critters, to people who like to stand around in a main city and just look good.

We’ve also been very active in WvW right from the get go using relatively small, but skilled strike teams to make a massive impact in the Gandaran WvW scene. We’ve already capped orbs of power and generally kicked some butt.

We like to trial our members to make sure you’re a good fit for us, but we’re also happy if you just want to trial us! We have a large variety of members though, so I’m sure you’ll fit in just fine
