Longbow Ability: Snipe

Rapid fire is absolutely a good skill, imho it would be better another approach for a Sniper Shot, as I wrote already some days ago before this topic:

I don’t know how, but Jon, please, think a way to add something similar to Ranger.
Sniper shot, so a chargable shot, growing in casting time/dmg, would be perfect for Longbow: it requires you to stay still, you can use it then just reading/understanding strategically the battlefield or you risk doing so, becoming an easy target, it fits a Longbow a lot. This will add not just an ability, not just damage but the fun to play and use it strategically.
One option is add a new weapon like crossbow, Point Blank Shot could pass to crossbow and longbow could get Sniper shot in exchange.
Another option, better imho, would be give to Point Blank Shot the same function of Sniper Shot but then longbow would lose an important knockback: here then you can add the Sniper Shot mechanic to Point Blank Shot. I mean knockback + a chargable shot: so pressing 4 you can use the first tick with 1/2 second cast on the move but staying still you can build up a stronger shot. This new version of Point Blank Shot would still keep the knockback, no matter how long you charge, it can be used as utility but also as damage ability charging it while still.
Another solution would be add simply Sniper shot and give the knockback utility to Rapid Fire or Hunter’s Shot. Personally I think that previous one is far away better for also a simple reason: it’s realistic that a strong shot can knockback.

Obviously, in all these suggestions proposed, knockback would work just under 600 as range.

And what about Snowblind (5)?
Well this seems more a thief stuff but it resembles the camouflage many suggested.
Here the options are two imho: a new survival ability working both for ranger and pet or replace something with that mechanic.
Imho it would fit the activation of Signet of the Hunt.
The activation we have is not really good while a camouflage like Snowblind would fit more the name, speaking of hunt. Activation could work just on pet, so that stuff is not op, if you want to apply it also on your character you need the Grandmaster trait Signet of Beastmaster. There are other options around, probably easier one is add directly a new ability but the second idea is also to solve the active ability of Signet of the Hunt, that is not good atm.

I hope so or, better, see new mechanics in sPvP and not just domination one.
I and friends had more fun in this Snowball Mayhem than in sPvP.

On a side note, Scout’s Sniper shot would be great on Ranger’s longbow.

I think that Anet is going in the right direction, slowly but we see improvements.
In the previous patch, yes I was disappointed to see not the stuff Jon wrote to ranger players but I really appreciated his honesty explaining why and the reasons of delay were fully understandable because of developing and testing issues.

I agree with OP and I think that is Anet’s goal for ranger.
Surely there is a lot of stuff to work on and we will see.

I have to say that I don’t like the so few abilities around, but this is the game itself.
I had a great fun playing Snowball Mayhem as scout while I play rarely sPvP or I pretty quit it. First of all I don’t like domination mechanic, so Snowball Mayhem was something I enjoyed more but this is off topic, there is a second reason why I like this pvp event: scout has two abilities that ranger should have, two abilities that often many here suggested.

I don’t care of infusions, if I want to do dungeons and I enjoy that content, it’s correct I get stuff with infusion slots doing dungeons or crafting that stuff.

Since I’m interested just to WvWvW and open world Pve, I would like simply that they acknowledge their mistake and have exotic, ascended, legendary and future gear with the same stats cap, as it was stated.

The only vertical progression I could accept and enjoy would be WvWvW ranks like the RvR ranks in DAoC or WAR. But even this would be against what previously stated, so I would understand and support the ones against it.

No need to go all the way for False Advertising (unless you really want to), you can hurt them on their bottom line by requesting a refund:

I explain something that maybe can help all the ones interested to a refund, at least for EU customers.

If you bought GW2 from a retailer, you should ask it a refund.
If you bought GW2 directly from official site, you should ask to the support team your refund.

1) Bought GW2 with cash in a shop: the situation would be a problem, just in this case you should contact a lawyer or a consumers’ association, if you are a member.
2) Used a credit card to buy GW2 and retailer or support team say no to refund:
contact your credit card customer service, if you are still within the billing period or you used a specific kind of credit card.
If the operation is already processed and billed, the fastest way is go to your Bank and ask the refund explaining why. Doing so, your Bank will give you authomatically the full refund upon your request. The Bank directly will do what required and maybe you can be contacted to provide more info about reasons.

As you can see as EU customer is really easy what to do.

3) bought game with Paypal and support team say no to refund: contact Paypal customer service, you should solve the issue.
About Paypal, I can’t provide more info, so if anyone could add those, it would be a good service.

I hope that this can help the ones interested to do so.

I don’t ask a refund atm, I prefer wait some weeks, check the evolution of all this stuff, then maybe I’ll ask the refund.
We are still within the time granted by EU laws to evaluate a product, so there is no hurry.

As feared by most, this is not about just dungeons but also WvWvW and open Pve.
Infusion will work in dungeons but stats increased will work everywhere.
Tiny stats in WvWvW? Maybe in 1vs1 you won’t see a lot the difference but you will see it in an Ascended geared group vs a not Ascended geared group.

No matter +1 or +10, since this changement is completely against what advertised and what explained in GW2 Manifesto, a player has two options:

1) accept the changement in the game and play accordingly (skip or farm new gear, pay attention to waste real money or golds to buy gems to get your fine transmutation stones for example). From what written here https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/ , it’s changement that can evolve in a trend, so beware.

2) do not accept this changement because of a misleading advertisement, quit the game and contact Arenanet support for a refund.
If you don’t receive any answer, contact the customer service of your credit card and they will gladly help you for a refund. If the operation is already billed/processed by your bank/credit institute, you can directly contact them.
I don’t know in USA or other countries but in EU the protection of consumers’ interests is really safeguarded in case of misleading or fraudulent advertisement.

Instead of speculate or whine (even if you have all the rights, considering the matter), decide between the two options and act accordingly.

This problem is not related to GW2, it depends by Fastweb and other Italian providers.
North Italy mainly is affected by these issues because of the huge storms and flooding of the last days.
According to Fastweb customer service, these issues should be solved within 13:00 CET (13/11/2012).

Atm I’m not really interested in spvp because I don’t consider it so fun, while usually I really enjoy this kind of content in other games.
But for the balancement issues we all know, these are what I miss:
- maps with different mechanics (for example something like Battle for Praag and Serpent’s Passage in WAR)
- effects of sPvP on WvWvW campaign or in Pve (not as gear rewards obviously, but since there aren’t factions at least something for server would be nice)
- more gear/rune options to personalize a character stats wise
- the chance to display as appeareance what you have in Pve/WvWvW (cosmetic wise the system in sPvP is too random)

Do we have to expect even Pandas in Lost Shores? :P

But for jokes, if this is confirmed, a such drastic design changement should require an official statement by devs on it, so customers can decide and act accordingly.
I hope we will read something soon, especially before the weekend feature to invite friends. I don’t want to mislead friends too, because change something similar would mean that everything could change on important matters in future development.
That stuff should be unusable out of that dungeon, especially in WvWvW.

I prefer wait and check, before any decision and more specific feedbacks, but, if this is confirmed and it works out of dungeons, I will feel really disappointed as customer and I won’t consider this company anymore really reliable because of previous statements completely different.
I hope this won’t happen.

Since this game was often advertised and promoted focusing on the cosmetic part of gear and being a really different MMORPG from usual ones, rather than a gear treadmill, this would have been really, really misleading, especially just so few months after release. I think many players bought GW2 for what stated before and that Anet can continue with their own original ideas instead of copycat other games.

Let’s wait and check, before any positive or negative comment.

I agree with many about make Signets working for both ranger and pet, then Signet of Beastmaster can be replaced with something else.

I would say also that a command like “stay” should be added to the normal abilities that a pet always has, because use “Guard” as utility skill is a wasted one.

@Skytohigh: yes, about Beastmastery and Marksmanship I agree. I don’t see too a logic about those signets in that line. I would prefer a petless trait all the time.

Thanks for the info, hopefully you guys have some pet love in the update. Pet AI/pathing is still pretty bad and they die to quickly.

Will also be cool to see some more build variety. Any chance we may get a viable petless ranger build? Would be totally awesome to have a trait that removes the pet, buffs damage and adds some kinda skill to replace F2.

Agree on the AI/pathing, pet should also avoid to stay in front of character or in dungeon it can be a problem with aggro. I have to dismiss pet always to avoid unwanted aggro before pull.

I would really, really love too a Major Trait (XI-XII, maybe in Marksmanship instead of Signet of Beastmaster) to have a petless ranger, especially in WvWvW.
A name? As you wish, something like Wild soul or Beast within or Feral bond can be nice.
X% stats of selected pet could go to Ranger and also the F2 ability (maybe other abilities too, since there are too few abilities already); swap pet can be available too and basically it would become a stance mechanic considering pets have different stats and abilities. Then F1 and F3 should be replaced by something else.

Why then not play a warrior or a thief? Simple, I prefer use a canonic archer/ranger with traps and bows, not firearms like pistols or rifle. Across many games gladly archers/rangers have no pet, here infact I can’t find an archer class I really like, also because pets are not working so well.

I think it can be hard – impossible see a petless ranger trait and mechanic developed, but, Mog I agree, it would be awesome.
