i dont want gw3, gw2 is too amazing

its a pve game only…. if we want decent pvp game we need to be playign gw1 or play another game.

Speaking of that, are there even any pvp centric MMOs these days? Feels like most games has left that part behind.

Guild Wars 3?

Ok… So I found this topic because I searched for it. And because I’m really intrigued by the idea of a new ArenaNet game. Possibly Guild Wars 3.

I’ve played GW1 since 11 years, that’s a pretty big chunk of my life. Of course, I haven’t played it actively. At least not since GW2 came. GW2 broke GW1, but it was also GW2 that got me to play GW1 the last year or so. To have some GW1 inspired gear that would show that I was closer to 20, than 10 years old.

Anyhow. I explored the world and was disappointed in how small it was. I tried the PvP and said to myself there would be more game modes soon (took 2 years for something new to appear). I did things and I got achievements and experience and points of various sorts for EVERYTHING. I realized I didn’t even play the game because I liked it, but because points.

Thing is, CORPG or MMORPG… my old GW1 box says MMORPG. ArenaNet (or at least the marketing team) wanted GW1 to be an MMO even if there were technical difficulties to it that didn’t truly make it one. And when thinking back on it, GW1, even in the end of it’s lifespan (before release of GW2), was a lot more social than GW2 has ever been. In GW2 there’s so much automation and it’s designed with a ”swarm behaviour” in mind. You just follow others and it will be well (eg. you get points, which is also the purpose of the game).

In GW1 it could be enough to walk up to some random farm in the middle of nowhere in Kryta and kill off the centaurs that was attacking it – getting virtually nothing, but feeling good for the poor NPC farmer.

I don’t speak absolute truth. Others will feel differently. But I stopped playing GW2 within a few months. Then I’ve come back a little bit here and there to see what’s new and complete a few things. I even bought HoT and I LOVED it. Then the community destroyed it. It got nerfed within a week, I was kittened and stopped playing again.

Progress was gone (finished) so I had no purpose exploring the world anymore. In GW1 I would’ve explored it anyway because I would’ve been curious what was around the next corner. I’ve never had that feeling with GW2.

Today I play GW1 more often than GW2. That said, GW1 is old… and it lags and it’s a general pain to play. There’s not many people in it either. My guild haven’t played since years back etc. I’ve not cared to ”reinvent” it because I play it out of nostalgia. My ‘nostalgia runs’ in GW1 is more appealing to me than actually playing GW2. If I want to play an actual MMO – which I still do, my go to game is Black Desert Online. It’s a different game, but it lacks the elements I don’t like of ”the modern mmo”. And such I can just run around without the feeling of that ”I have to do this to progress”.

Rant over. I’m intrigued by GW3 not because of better graphics or better gameplay. But as a reset. A chance to change what went wrong and the decisions that was made purely to give the game a ”mass appeal”, and make a game that keeps you playing just to be in the world and feel part of it. A Guild Wars 2.5 would be sufficient, no need to start over from scratch – even though it could be an idea to release it as an entirely new game anyway.

WoW has reinvented itself many times for better and worse, GW2 is basically the same as when it was released. The fall of LA happened years ago and felt very ”just because we can” – didn’t really add to the world feeling dynamic.

I would like to see…
- A bigger, more expansive and atmospheric world, where every part has something unique to offer.
- A skill system that has depth beyond running around and dodging attacks.
- The travel system of GW1 (eg. you travel to cities and walk around the specific area)
- The auto walk system of BDO.
- Harder open world grind areas that require tactics, not only spamming a couple of buttons (to be fair, this is because off the community and not devs, both Orr and HoT was designed to be harder).
- More PvP game modes (JQ, FA?).
- A story line that’s actually interesting (or maybe just chain quests that isn’t main quests).
- More Jeremy Soule.

These are not unrealistic things because I know ANet can do it, most things has already been done. And I know the GW2 community is broken because off all the silver plate kids who wants everything to be easy or I recite: ”not grindy”. There should be some grind in an MMO and the grind should be hard so it becomes a challenge, and so that you need to get the help from other people… Not just solo killing off tons of run of the mill mobs to get stuff with a low drop rate.

In short, I miss the world of Guild Wars. But I do not long for the current state of none of the games. The core in GW2 is great, everything is in place but it lacks immersion. I don’t think it’s unthinkable to make ”A realm reborn” out of GW2. But realistically – that costs a lot of money even if the devs would want to make it, it’s extremely unlikely it will happen.

ArenaNet please stop nerfing content.

I’ve not logged in since the nerf. I’ve played about 4-5 hrs per day since release of HoT. Normally I play about the same time per month. I’ve really just taken the time to play the game, or “a game”. I rarely do that. I rarely can do that. I had 91% of my elite spec yesterday, just needed to get 3 more hero challenges. I’ve played as my new spec all the time since release. Never felt I had a hard time. Just as ANet themselves stated they saw the hero spec as a progression, where you get to somewhat semi-start over with leveling.

Anyway, I’m probably the most casual player here on the forum, with like 500 hrs of game time since launch – 3+ years ago. And about 700 hrs in GW1, which I got for almost 10 years ago. I found this more challenging content fun, and it sort of brought me back to GW1 where you had to think before taking on ten mobs all by yourself; usually – you didn’t.

I thought they were on the right track again with challenging open world content (Snake Dance, anyone?), where you can just jump in and play and have a good fun killing some random monsters, then just log out – because that’s basically how I play this game. I’m just sad that they listened to this percentile that get heard in the forums – complaining. Heck this game is far from hardcore it’s just a little challenge. Challenges takes time. Progression takes time. And I just get the feeling that all developers are catering to the new generation of patience-lacking kids that put their energy into complaining rather than just playing.
What if Crash Bandicoot were released today, and til’ next week they would have so many people complaining over that it’s too hard that they made the jumps easier – it just wouldn’t be the same. It probably wouldn’t have been remembered in the same way as it is now either. It was a game tough enough, far from hardcore, that was just genuinely frustrating fun.

So if it is as you say, that they’ve not only lowered the HP-cap, but also made content easier. I’m very much disappointed and not really that tempted to play anymore. I’m gonna login now and see for myself, but if this is the case I’ll probably go back to my 4-5 hrs a month again.

Map Markers: Reword 'Away' to 'Feet Away'

Overall, I believe these new map markers should only serve as letting players know what areas are high areas and what areas are low areas since none of us here can really agree on a form of measurement that should/could be used that is most reliable and accurate.

Exactly. If the metric system would be used, Americans would complain. If feet would be used, Europeans would bare with it because we’re used to it. But it doesn’t need to be that bad as it is. Made up measurement systems in an (MMO)RPG feels just right, if you ask me. But it looks odd indeed.

Thanks for the answers, both of you! I thought so since the NPC was removed, but since Soutsun, that was added last year, is still visitable, I kept my hopes up. I’ll try the Sanctum Sprint out.

Have a good day!

Not sure where to put this, but! I’ve just got back to the game after a somewhat long break. And found that this area, “Labyrinthine Cliffs”, has been added during this time.

I’m the exploring kind so I’d really like to check it out, if it’s still there, that is.

All-in-all, is it still possible to reach? If so, how?

Let's unite for a Mac OS X native client

I got all hyped when I saw that there even was a Mac (Beta) Client. Didn’t know about it at all. Guess I check on the forums too little. I’ve been playing thru Bootcamp all the year, gonna install this now. But reading all the comments about it… makes me feel there’s no real use.

I played Guild Wars 1 via Wine and it had laser beams on basically every creature, but aside of that it worked pretty fine. However this is a much more complex game so I guess it has plenty more issues than that.

A native client would be a lot harder to develop, obviously. But a lot easier to maintain, when it’s done. Now having to translate everything via Cider, Wine or whatever, would mean no misinterpretations, and not so many hard-to-fix evil minded patches. However, it could mean another team, to work on each patch release for the Mac version.

A Native Client would be much easier for the users. But seriously now, how many Mac users is there? About 10% of all sold computers are Macs these days. Not a lot of those are bought to play games (many laptops). And atop of that, most that play games, do actually have Bootcamp/Windows.
So to be realistic. This is what Anet is dealing with. And that they prioritize other things atop of that is not especially strange to me.

EDIT: The only games I play is GW/GW2. I got Bootcamp just for that. Not using Windows for anything else. So of course I would love this to happen. But realistically speaking.. It’s hard to motivate the costs of it.

Soundtrack overall

If I get to speculate, the game was produced with far too little music to actually fill up the game. One of my biggest disappointments with GW2 at launch was that so much of the music really just came from the last game. And not the best of the tracks either.

I got no real concrete examples, but sometimes in Shivepeaks, you hear a song that in GW1 was in Kryta and vice versa. It makes no sense and takes off much of the feel of the game.

I never played GW1 hardcore, just to sit back, relax and enjoy the world – this has been a lot tougher in Guild Wars 2, mainly because of that the world doesn’t feel as dangerous, it’s pretty easy to get by in it (Snake dance, anyone?). But also because of that the music feels so off. And that it doesn’t really belong to the experience. It’s beautiful, but the composition of the world and the music together. Isn’t right.

Does anyone have a hint or anything that there will be more music launched to the game? I really think it would be in it’s place.

Ok, I just found out about this, and really, I have to say, that removing Canthan District from DR, might have been a good design choice. Because what I really want is the immersive Kaineng City, back. Or maybe parts of it, OR another big, asian looking city.

Just that, this Asian theme is one of those things I really connect to the GW experience. Without it, it doesn’t really feel like Guild Wars. It feels like any generic Western world MMO. Except of course that Arenanet are superior in design overall.

But I’d really love the implementation of it. So be it that it would be a forgotten settlement in Maguuma, I don’t really care. Just make it, and make it work.
That’s my five cents.

So I already mailed the support about a week ago, got confirmed that my errand had been passed on to the “Payment Review Team”. However I’ve not heard anymore since then.

So my issue is as simple as that I can’t buy gems, tried a few times last week, and tried once today. Absolutely nothing happens, when I’ve filled out all my information and pressed confirm, the buttons become grey and it takes a few minutes, then I get back to the form. No confirmation, no error, no gems, no mail. Not anything at all.

So is this a common problem at the moment or?
