Building a PC, how would this run the game?

Okay actually.. this is actually the last question because I have two friends pushing me back and forth between that case above and..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107

My only gripe is that I know I’d have to remove the fan on the side to connect the heat sink which.. isn’t that big of a deal I’m sure it’d still be really cool inside and quiet (which was also a concern, I don’t want something too loud..) that and the LEDs seem distracting but, never owning one, I wouldn’t know, is it possible to turn them off easily for the blue lights compared to the other cases white ones?

400R is a nice case. And for some reason I originally read you had only a GTX 650 and not a 650Ti which isn’t weak IMO.

Also great to hear, and yeah I was confused with some negativity my card got when looking at videos it seems to handle BF3 on ultra for the most part.. and my monitor resolution is quite small for the time being so I’m sure things would run even better.

..and,last question I promise, what can I do about that cases ventilation stuff? I don’t plan on buying extra fans for awhile and those open ports (dust/cats are around where I am) could pose a problem, though if there’s not much I could do well.. cleaning it often isn’t that big of a deal since I see myself taking an air can to it every two weeks or so.

Okay, this is what I’ve come up with and I think I’m going for it, I’m happy with how it all looks thus far.

A mid tower will be more then big enough. A full tower is absolutely massive and unnecessary unless you want a WC loop or something along those lines. What sort of size constraints are you reading about?

It’s just people in feedback on newegg say some things may be a tight fit.. which I mean, I guess isn’t a problem so long as it actually goes in but I’m positively worried I’d make a mistake and not be able to install that supposed goliath.

this is what I have so far minus the different tower, removing the tower should still leave me more than enough room under my budget to get a larger case, should I be looking for something labeled full tower or something? All mid towers I’m reading about seem to have size contraints..

Mm, I don’t care how the case looks too much at this point, I just want it big enough to fit that heat sink I want, would those two you mentioned be able to fit it? I’m always open for more input.

Sorry, I often post stream of consciousness and edit afterwords. Going back and reading it now I see it lacks a certain … clarity.

What I was trying to say is presenting a parts list for such a low budget is difficult, because on one hand you can either specify a lower end CPU like an i3 instead of an i5 with the i3 being the latest generation and match it with a Z87 motherboard that allows overclockable CPUs later, or go with an older i5 using Socket 1155 and go something cheaper like an H77 motherboard but the socket is a dead end. However any savings could be use on a better video card or a higher quality power supply.

But since you already have a high quality PSU as well as a GPU you are willing to reuse this make the job a little easier and you did a good job with it. And if you are still concern about the cooler/case fit issue, the Rosewill Galaxy case does provide more headroom for the same price or less depending on the model (there are three Galaxy cases, insides the same, sides the same, the three fans are the same-ish, only the plastic front on top are different, check them out on NewEgg).

So it sounds like everything is good to go after all.

I think I’ll play it safe for the time being and go with the case I really wanted, if the heatsink doesn’t fit then well.. I can return it and get another, use the stock heatsink for awhile (it should be fine without overclocking) those roswells seem a bit.. iffy, I guess.

EDIT: On.. second thought I’ll maybe hunt for a new case, maybe just a tad more expensive to stay under $700, though I love the color blue, I’d imagine an LED would get annoying fast, at least for me. Back to the drawing board I suppose.

Sorry, didn’t get around to post in your previous thread.

The problem you presented last night was to build a system that’s inexpensive. Now the DIY side is going to want to present a system that is potentially be upgraded, which means using current or near current CPUs, while still being affordable which means trading most current for a little more powerful but older for the same price. We’re pulling in multiple directions here.

Glad to see the reuse which eases budget concerns which means Haswell.

As for your questions.

- Yes that 520 watt Seasonic is more than enough.

- WvW zergs, who the heck knows. So few players are satisfied ever with WvW frame rate and quality settings. The GTX 650 is on the weak side but you have that already.

- Tough to answer with any certainty. The 212 Evo is only a 120mm fan based cooler and from base to top is 159mm tall. But that is a narrow case (with very little room for cables behind the MB tray BTW). It’ll be tight fit. That said Googling “212 Evo Rosewill Challenger” found me several posts that say it’ll fit.

Nitpick, you have listed the i5-4670 but not the 4670K that allows you to overclock. It’s sort of pointless in the short term to pair a non-overclocking CPU, especially something near the top with a Z87 MB. It’s $20 more for the K.

Yeah reading a bit more I’m just going to get a 4670K , it’s still in the $700 price range I wanted and saves me money in the long run.

Thank you for the post, it eases me a bit. I know the GPU is on the low side but yes It’ll be the next thing I upgrade in the coming couple months. But other than the GPU does everything look okay? Your first paragraph kind of confused me which is why I’m asking for a bit more clarification.

I’d love to keep that case but it does look narrow, but hey, you said it should fit, though a bit tight, if I shouldn’t risk it.. what case would you suggest in a similar enough price range?

Keeping it even more brief this time.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1FVFD

I already own that PSU and GPU in this current machine.

Two things I’m worried about, though.

- Would that mobo/cpu fit that heat sink in my case? I’m unsure of how to measure such things without yknow, actually owning the parts. If it doesn’t fit I can just use the stock heat sink though and get a refund / find a new part

- PSU, is 520w enough for all this?

- How would I handle WvWvW zergs?

My only advice, as someone who built a new gaming rig over the last 9 months, is this…

No matter how attractive the price is, do NOT NOT NOT get a motherboard/CPU for an AMD processor.

In regards to GW2, Intel processors will smoke the hell out of any comparable AMD processor. GW2 is just not optimized for AMD processors.

I built mine with an AMD processor and I am kicking myself in the tale everyday since I learned how bad GW2 is when it comes with performance and AMD processors.

Understood, I know that CPU is intel (obviously, ahah)

But.. that Mobo..?

Also asking around I don’t think I need a new PSU after all, 520w seems okay if I go for the CPU that can’t overclock. But I’ll be getting a new one in the future when I upgrade further!

Thank you for the post but I’d feel much safer purchasing online than in a store like best buy and what not.. bad experiences there and the prices are insane. I’ve asked elsewhere and had people give me reassuring answers on power supply with what other parts I linked but.. now you have me worried.

or.. I could go with this.. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1FmbY

that includes the same cpu I think but it can be overclocked as well as the heatsink, but to be honest, yes, I’d rather save money but being able to play WvW and 25man raids on WoW would be lovely.

edit: I am still slightly iffy about that case due to the price on newegg so I’m taking advice on what to get there especially, too, thanks again for any help!

I’ll try and keep this brief!

So I finally have enough leeway and spare cash to build a decent gaming computer. Before I begin, let me list off some examples of games I’d love to play on higher settings, if not Max.

- World of Warcraft (I know it doesn’t take a super computer, but believe you me I need a new processor to do any kind of high player count content nowadays)

- Guild Wars 2 (More or less meaning WvWvW in the “What upgrade would let me play this” department)

- Planet Side 2

-Final Fantasy XIV

- Other future MMO’s, I’m just looking to be safe for a good few years so I don’t have to upgrade any time soon

- Single player games, just for comparison considering I rarely play any outside of rpgs, modded skyrim, bioshock infinite, crysis 2, etc

Now, as for parts, I recently got a Seasonic 520w PSU and a GTX 650 ti (non boost) GPU for free and I would prefer to not upgrade those just yet if possible, though you can bet I’ll be getting a new video card at some point in the next couple months!

And, my budget is about $600-700 but would prefer to spend as less as possible. Buuuut as for stuff I need…

A new case, Mobo, CPU with a non-stock heatsink (though I have a good heatsink in mind so no worries about that) , Ram and a 1TB harddrive.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1FmcM

Here’s what I had in mind minus the Harddrive/heatsink and the other parts I currently own listed above.

Would I be okay for the games I’d like to play for the most part? I know my GPU is kind of budgety but as stated I’ll be upgrading in the future to something a bit more up there in quality. Thanks for any and all help and suggestions!

Wanting to go to another server to WvW with a group of friends, the only way for me to do this right now would be to delete my character (I’m new, so this isn’t really an issue, didn’t even hit 20) but I was wondering if this would get rid of my SPvP stats? Or is this account bound?

Help on SPvP AH build, what runes and sigils?

Heroshi.8754

I honestly have no idea what to do, all I’ve heard up to this point is to use Knights gear, but that doesn’t seem to be around outside of accessories in SPvP? I also don’t know what accessories to be using but from what I’ve heard, Berserkers was the way to go?

Also side question, is Staff a good secondary? Or should I go mace/shield or mace/focus? I find both fun and just want to help my team out at points primarily, I love being tanky and in general just an annoyance on capture points

Thanks for any help! I’ve been enjoying the game quite a lot so far.

Heroshi.8754

I’m curious on to what I should use for my secondary weapon slot for AH as well. Hammer primary (Is GS even good for AH as a primary)

Wondering if Staff might be a fine choice as well with that might channel. But if there are any sword/scepter and whatever off hand combos that work with AH fine I’d love to know.

New, unsure of what build(s) to use.

Heroshi.8754

Thanks for the posts so far! I’ve been trying out hammer and loving it, so I’ll be trying the AH build out for my first time through the game. Though outside of valor I’m honestly confused on where to spend points and what traits to get, utilities… I’m also not too sure what to take for my Guardian.

I guess after looking around all day I’d love to support a team in both PvE and WvW/SPvP while still being really difficult to kill, something on the front lines I guess, helping my allies, which AH seems to provide. I’ll be shooting for full knight gear when the time comes if any of that info helps me decide on what utilities to take :s

Also for the second weapon, I really don’t know what to use, I really do fancy the great sword/mace (unsure of offhand to compliment it) and staff. I’d love some input on that as well!

Looking around a bit it seems AH is the go-to tank I guess, I really don’t know much about this game yet but it seems everyone likes it.

Would that sticky at the top suffice to know how to build if I go that route?

Heroshi.8754

I guess the playstyle I’m looking for at the time being is something that, well, is very difficult to kill in SPvP and WvW. I have an engineer buddy who is off the wall tanky and can take on 3-4 people without going down, I want to be able to do that. Though I am still leveling and things might be changed by the time I hit 80, I really do want something to look forward to.

Also with a tanky build, will I still be able to get through my personal story and PvE just fine?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Well, after reading a tad more into things it seems Noble will be my background, being barely able to make ends meet as a commoner doesn’t make as much sense as a Guardian who wants to protect others after losing his sister when he can barely fend for himself. I’ll tough it out to 10-20 or so and if I REALLY don’t like it, then well, remaking as a commoner won’t take too long with how fast leveling is in this game from what I hear.

Thanks for all the help guys, really looking forward to this game. (even more so when I get a better processor to handle the more intense stuff)

I see, thank you.

Watching the commoner and nobles intro on youtube it seems Noble is in fact more Guardiany than a commoner, ugh that makes the choice all the harder, I’m sure I’ll be able to decide when faced with the choice on character creation, though.

I think I’d go Noble now but the main friend does seem a tad annoying though kind more on the level of comic-relief. If I recall after you get into the orders, you never really hear much of the first part of the story again? I guess I’m just thinking too much on deciding on something that doesn’t matter too terribly much.

Hm, a commoner who lost his sister and thus took up arms to make sure no one else he cared for would be lost again sounds right up my alley. (Despite being rather cliche and cheesy, though I can’t help but feel that Nobles story might be a bit more fitting for the class.)

My download won’t be complete for awhile though and I’m more than fine with other input, but as of now I think the route I have in mind feels pretty fitting but, would the more Caucasian humans be Ascalonian or Krytan, though? Ignore the likely typos.

Currently downloading the game, rather excited. Now I do light RP every now and then (more often than not only in my head to connect with the character I play or give him an identity, I did this a lot in WoW) so I wanted to pick something more suiting for a lawful-good kind of guy.

Tied between Commoner and Noble, Parents and Sister and unsure of what god to be blessed by, leaning more towards Dwayna but from what I hear they don’t effect the story much? As for order I think I’d like to be a part of the Vigil.

Thanks for any opinions to help sway this choice! I’ve been waiting to play this for so long and only just recently got a decent enough computer to enjoy the PvE until I can upgrade further.
