Absurd didn’t win any major tournaments either. Somehow they are on there.
GF did win quite a few weeklies in the run up to ToL. Not as dominant as Abjured. But on that level.
The Absurd won a few hundred dollars in ESL tournaments I believe. The reason they are on this list is because they beat the Abjured 3/5 times before China.
You seem confused on some things. First off, Deku God played spirit ranger when the game launched and continued to do so when it became meta. Before it became meta beast master ranger was meta, a build that can’t really be attributed to a creator, and it was discussed on “Arrow the Knee” that spirit ranger would become the next meta for ranger at the fall of beast master ranger because we knew of the pet nerfs incoming. The discussion was held between myself, Battosai, and the host (who I apologize too for failing to remember the name, I could guess but don’t want to be mistaken). So to say Vyndetta and Powerr made the spirit ranger meta is so incredibly wrong it lessens the validity of any of your other statements. Nevertheless, you have probably earned what you wanted and gotten someone to comment on one of your many troll threads.
Wow, well, sorry to offend you so much. I was told by some old time players that I asked, that Powerr had made the build and given it to Vyndetta. Not sure how any of my posts are “trolling” as I attempt to constitute lists that are valid and correct.
I left Good Fights out for two main reasons:
1. Toker, Chaith, and Wakkey, all core members, are on Abjured now
2. GF played basically during a completely dead time of the game ( literally no other teams). While GF seemed good, the only other team at the time, FML, which had a subpar roster, actually beat them a lot. GF also did not win any notable tournaments, and they really fell apart in ToL 1, when they didn’t even make it to the semifinals. While you may argue that a team like The Abjured does not have any competition, I point out The Absurd, and Apex, both confirmed top teams still played vs them and Abjured came out on top.This isn’t true. GF won just about everything up until ToL. And if you look back that period wasn’t really dead. ToL had way more teams than today.
The Tournament of Legends brought a lot of teams back to the game and created new ones, but as I stated, Good Fights did very poorly in ToL 1. As far as them winning everything, they simply didn’t, the only major tournament they even played in, The GF invitational, was won by a European team. If you can prove it to me, I will happily add them.

This list is a combination of players and teams who created builds and comps that shifted and then dominated the meta.
Caed- D/P Crit strikes with steal
This build allowed SYNC to take the edge in GW2’s North American PAX qualifiers as Caed shut down Acandis’ stomps and resses with this new steal build.
Noscoc- PoC Necro
This build truly brought an end to ApeX’s bunker meta and solidified the celestial meta in Guild Wars 2.
Vyndetta/Powerr- Spirit Ranger
This build quickly became relevant in the meta with it’s AI, group buffs, and res utility.
Hiba- HGH Engineer (Then given to Ostrich and Teldo who popularized the build)
Nuff Said. With this build engineers became very prevalent in the meta by combining high damage with a lot of boons.
Tarcis- Hambo War
This build combines CC with AoE fields to provide high damage, bunkering abilities, and an inept ability to 1v1.
Jumper-S/D Acro Thief
This build completely altered the meta and allowed TDM to fly to the top of the charts being carried by this untouchable force.
Vain/Skovos- D/D Ele (Valk/Celestial)
Nuff said. This build has remained relevant two years after its creation despite a large gap in between its dominance, its combination of CC, team heals, and damage makes it godlike.
Teams:
Outplayed By Children- The infamous Celestial comp was made famous by this group of individuals when they took a team consisting of 5 dps players centered around the celestial amulet, and won ToL 2. Following this tournament, almost every single team runs a 5 dps, celestial based comp.
Apex Prime- The slow pace and bunkerish style that Apex used in their games lead them to a very successful return in ToL 1. This team utilized even fights with very high sustain to force their opponents to get “out sustained.” However this bunker fame was short lived, as the celestial meta overtook it quite abruptly.
Arena Net- The condi meta came swiftly with a large amount of buffs to spirit rangers, dhuumfire necros and other condi classes. This meta was one of the longest lasting as it required less coordination that berserker yet still had a very high uptime on damage.
VexX/Booty Bakery/Qt – These three teams defined the zerker meta with high burst and teamfights. This style of play was rekt by condi meta however, as zerker builds could not compete with the tankier, bruiser style builds that dominated the scene for well over a year.
There are many players that exist who are ready to compete at tournament level. The problem is that they usually lack a few virtues that would otherwise allow them break in to the upper tiers of the commuity:
- Time restraints due to school/work
- They are afraid of responsibility to a team or do not want the pressure of expectation
- They have low charisma or are plain uncooperative on TS3 with other players
So when it comes to 1v1 type situations, there are many players out there who could match any member of the Abjured or any other team for that matter, in combat, if not beat them but what really defines a good player in Guild Wars 2 is your ability to communicate and time available to stay hot and in practice.
I disagree, I think most would Agree phantaram and noscoc are by far the best duelers at their profession. And as far as 1v1ing is concerned the rest of Abjured can hold their own. As far as teamfights are concerned, the Abjured accels with its mechanical abilities in teamfights. 1v1s are easy to learn. Teamfighting is what defines great players from good players
I left Good Fights out for two main reasons:

While the recent changes were a step in the right direction, I think that the point system overall is doomed to fail…
Strengths: 1. Very clear distinction between you and the players above and below you!
2. Requires players to actively play to maintain a high rank!
3. Uses your probability of winning to decide reward!
Weaknesses: 1. No distinction in MMR, in other words, going 100-90 (if you are high MMR and you are vs players in High MMR) will give you the same amount of points going 100-90(if you and your opponents are low MMR)…. This is a serious problem. In order for leaderboards to represent the best players in the game, there needs to be a distinction somehow made in the algorithm.
2. While I agree games played should matter, if in a season a player goes 500-0, and a player goes 1000-0.. Those players could both be of equal footing, but extra time allowed one player to accel above the other! I think at some point games played should not matter as long as both players are very active. For some players, especially High MMR, Q times are very high compared to Low MMR players, meaning certain players can actually play more games per hour.
3. While awarding players for beating players that are better than them is good, it is somewhat unfair to high MMR players. In other words, high MMR players (Who in theory are the best and should be at the top of the leaderboards) can only gain 1 pt per win, while low MMR players can gain up to 3 pts. per win.
Solutions: MMR needs to be incorporated somehow… (This one I don’t know how to fix)
Add game caps per day! IE after 10 games, you gain significantly less points or none at all (This accumulates, IE if you don’t play for three days, you can come back and gain up to 40 games worth of points the 4th day [to enable players to join a season late]}
~~~ Downside to this is after 10 or X games players will not have an incentive to play~~~
Add win streaks- High MMR players can only gain 1 pt per game, in order to allow them to compete with low MMR players, award extra points for win streaks…. be it 1 every 3 games , or an exponential system, 1,1,2,4,8, a bonus system [1 bonus, +2 bonus etc], or something along the lines of after 5 games, each game is worth double
Thanks!
Guys lets not insult each other! Why detract from someone trying to join a team!
I think the new changes are great! It’s unfortunate however that some players got a 200 point head start..
So, you lost three games, then expected to get points? I’m confused, why should they reward losing?? 2-2-1… and 1-1-1-1-1 isn’t that much of a difference… And if it is the case, the 1-1-1-1-1 could have had a higher MMR, so…
Really annoying and prevalent. Please fix
