Guild Wars 2

Hi guys,
I am new to GW2 and I am still trying to find the class that works best for me and I need some up to date info to help me decide. Back in the day in wow i loved 2 classes- warlock for his dots and fear, and rogue for his high burst and bleed dmg and poisons.
Now in gw2 I made a thief and I am lvl 27, however Im more pvp oriented so I went straight hot joins and I find thief a bit hard for a beginner. I know how good they can be but I would rather try an easier class first to get better in the game and then perhaps return to the thief.
I was quite intriqued to try necromancer but after reading this post https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Necro-is-not-as-good-as-I-think-it-should-be I was kinda disappointed.
So my question is can somebody explain me the current state of necros in pvp? Good or bad, worth etc. Also what class would you recommend instead? Just pls no warrior, I know they are good but war is such evergreen that the idea of playing a war already bores me. I was thinking ranger. Are they viable and what builds are best for pvp? Im looking for high dmg I do not like tanks.
