Sadly I would like to see this game die fast too. I want Anet to be forced to admit how badly they screwed up so that they can create a new game that is actually worth my purchase.

I am really tired of playing league of legends, but it is going to be the only stable non-RTS E-sport we have for a long time it seems. It is sad, I genuinely thought this game could have been a revolution for competitive gaming.

Because the developers for Guildwars2 are a bunch of idiots, frankly. Well, the art team is good. <3

Late September last year, I was standing in the mists on Storm bluff isle and the question was asked about the lack of GvG. Jon Peters (in addition to remarks claiming SC2 isn’t a real E-sport) said that if players wanted GvG they should go play the original Guildwars, as Guildwars2 is meant to be a new game.
[and yea Jon, on the off chance you read this I still have the screen shot saved if you try to deny these assertions].

Problem is, they destroyed the original Guildwars. The developers intentionally made absurd pvp balance patches (e.g. Smiters boon nurf) they made 0 attempt to balance the game and simply demonstrated a lack of care for the game. The developers broke the original game, and the hope was that it was because they were focused rebuilding the same game in the sequel.

Well a “sequel” implies a continuation of the same game, not an entirely new one. Needless to say, none of the original pvp formats were preserved and within 6 months the new pvp system had a less supported community than what the original game had by its factions release. Of course Arena.net wont release actual census numbers so these assertions have to be inferred by the barren pvp lobbies instead of with quantifiable graphs.

All of these purchases, including expansion purchases of Eye of the North in a game already perceived as relatively dead were on the hope that the 2nd game would make it worth it. Yet here we are.

Where is the E-sport?

So I bought the game upon release and tried really hard to get into the game. Ultimately I shelf’d the product due to lack of playerbase to form pickup teams and a plethora of bugs and lack of polish.

My question is, how long until this game is supposedly going to become an actual E-sport that I can stream adjacent to StarCraft and League of legend tournaments?

The promise of an Esport was the only reason I bought the game and it has been 8 months now. How much longer do the developers need?

It would be nice to press Anet for actual numbers regarding the population size in the mists. It feels like it takes way to much time to find a party or get any type of quality game going in the tournaments.

What is being done to recruit more pvp’rs (not just from the PVE community but actual recruitment of pvp players from the other Esport games) to create a healthy community?

Alternative game modes besides capture points? – A lot of people myself included do not like that game mode over others (e.g. nexus wars)

I gotta agree with the OP. If you go back and watch the trailers for it they advertise this game as “being for the player; hey I swung a sword hey I swung it again gj” (referencing the arbitrary killing of NPCS to acomplish objectives). The whole game is a grind to lvl 80 by filling a series of water buckets or slaying enough wurms and then you have a handful of dungons to pick from with a repetetive process to acquire Armor.

The PvP community has been seemingly wittled down to nothing; the player from team paradigm in the Guru interview asked about this to which Anet replied “no, they are just localizing on servers” – Which servers? I quit this game back in october from the stale unstimulating gameplay that comes from lack of a universal pvp lobby to chat and recruit players from. Given the sights of thins its only gotten worse. The game blatently has the potential to be something but its not being acomplished.

Global PvP lobbies, not server dependant lobbies are needed so that the entire PVP community can meet and play with one another. The original intent was to create “niche pvp communities” but I would rather be in a large room full of strangers than sit in the dead Mists as it is now. Additionally that ladder system is needed for people to give a kitten about winning. Fancy armor is not enough an incentive.

I agree with the original post. I have not played this game in over a month simply because it was obvious there is no point to doing pvp. I would Love to hop on and do some PvP in Guildwars over say League of Legends, but frankly whats the point? it takes to long to get any real play going if you dont already have 5 people and theres no ladder system to track your acomplishments.

Until they get this rating system up and going, I won’t be playing this game again. I couldn’t give half a —-- about pve. If I wanted to PvE there are much better games to turn to.

Could we create 2 (or 3) “Guild” recruitment forums as to easily sipher between guilds recruiting for PVE/WvW and PVP? To my knowledge there is no way to filter guild searches on that criteria.

The 3rd option would be perhaps pvp and pve guilds or whatever

sPvP Warrior Balance Thoughts

I will preface that I don’t know everything, I could be unaware to some metas, and there might be some builds out there I have yet to see which would change my outlook. However I wanted to provide balance thoughts on the warrior and see what people had to say.

the main issue is in sPvP, burst warriors easily outclass DPS and heavy CC/support warriors are outclassed by other professions utility.

Lets go with Greatsword/axeshield as our standard. Imagine a 4v4 fight occuring at the graveyard; a caster can stun a target (say a mesmer with his condition signet) and then the warrior can immideatly bulls charge in (and get a free KD since the skill is bugged) followed by frenzy hundred blades and almost guarnteed down a soft target with proper crit traits and amulet. -This is to Build addrenline mind you; once you have a full addrenline bar you can swap to shield set and stun evicerate for a guarnteed crit also isntantly removing at least half of a targets healthbar. Ironically in the current meta warriors have stronger burst than assassins at the cost of some mobility.

Compare this with say a shortsword – yea I could flurry the target but the damage takes much longer to apply than evicerate and does not fully utilize the 50% crit daze trait mastery (as the stun wears off after 1 second, and flurry lasts 4 seconds). Additionally the bleeding applied by the sword is not preferencial as typically there is not a lot of wiggle room in warrior bars to invest much into condition damage; there is already a tug of war between durability and crit (beserkers and soldiers amulet). Not only is the damage slower, it is on impression (I admit I have not actually done the math) less damage than what the burst build above provides. You would think there would be a tradeoff between total DPS and burst damage, but currently there seems not to be, burst wins.

Hammers warriors in paticular suffer from delayed casting times and relatively weak utility. the Hammer skill #4 is counterintuitive to scrims and is at best a weak peel to be used for teammates (other classes offer much better forms of defense) and the #5 has to long a casting time making it easily readable/dodged by the enemy. The earthshaker is alright, but is not worth the sacarfice the hammer kit as a whole implies.

This leaves maces and warhorn. The maces provide decent CC and defensive utility (block, interupt), but unless you are scrimming 1v1 you are generally as a warrior not the enemys first target which defeats the purpose. Additionally there are stronger builds with other professions for holding points than a warrior (guardians, necros, engineers, mesmers). The Warhorn gives allies decent buffs but they do not count as shouts, so specing into tatics to acquire vigorous shouts is ultimately fruitless. The only heals you can acquire are from utility shouts, and the only ones on a short cool down include skills with very short cast ranges (600 range) and which ultimately pail in comparison to the utility other classes can provide [for instance why create a shout warrior with shake it off when I could have a plague signet necro on my team which would demonstrate way more use with those conditions without having to sacarfice DPS in his build].

Suggestions:
Warhorn skills count as a shouts. If this proves to potent with the tatics trait you can lower the health gained per shout but as things stand the utility under tatics is not something worth pursuing. Also potentially increase the casting range of some utility shouts to 900 or so.

Rework Hammer skill #4; or at the very least increase the knockback distance to increase peel viaablity. Increase casting speed of the hammer skill #5 (the meta is currently dealing with a broken bulls charge, I fail to see the problem with faster casting Hammer KD that is just harder to dodge).

Create Traits that greatly amplify base damage for warrior weapons but does not get factored into critical strikes. There are a few 5-10% damage increase traits but they ultimately fail in dps when compared to what crit provides. Greatly increase the percentage amplifier with which these weapons can do damage but dont let these amplifications be considered in critical damage, so that you can create a meaningful tradeoff between warrior DPS and burst damage.

Mace – No ideas yet.

I specifically was curious if you could use the skins you buy in pve in pvp. Kinda ruins the point of pve if I cant use my gear in pvp.
