I think we need to remember guys that the choice a guild makes and the reasons they transfer to a particular destination are many and varied, and a guild never really knows if they are truly making the right decision or not. Sometimes you have to use the information you have at the time and go with your gut. There are many things behind the scenes that very few of us outsiders really know or understand. I’ll admit, I was also scratching my head when I heard the news about WARD/ACO last week, but quickly realized that there were probably reasonably well thought out reasons behind the choice, and some things may come to light in the future that may at least soften our/your disagreements with it.

I certainly understand the feelings expressed by some JQ players, but the fact still remains that none of us are in a position to judge. It does still sting though, especially when a situation that was already difficult only becomes more difficult. Even then, I personally choose to wish departing players/guilds well and look forward to the chance to stomp them (or get stomped by them) on the field.

Your words restore my faith in this community. Statements like this are the reason I pour through pages of bad form and ill will. I finally found a reason to post in this thread. Thank you

I’m just playing it for the Achievement Points :P

I think it works out to about an extra 160 a month from daily/monthly and the daily only usually takes three matches. This also seconds to grinding out a cool title very slowly which I like since I play WvW mostly now.

Right, I understand what he meant was just wondering what the end result would be for ectos to get a better idea of what the impact is.

If it is 5 then that’s about half compared to events. That’s of course ignoring drops. I don’t run CoF so I’m not sure what the optimal builds would be and if mf is included which would have some impact.

Now with half compared to events what’s left is how many people doing it. Anyone think they have a good CoF:Events ratio estimate?

Ok so if two yaks are spawning every 10 minutes(I believe that’s conservative) then at 3ppt a kill thats 60 pt per hour per camp(120 total). Assuming of course that it’s every 10 minutes and not less.

Now the question is at what supply count and/or at what upgrade point is it more beneficial to flip the camp vs just killing the yak?

I’m curious, would it be more profitable(ppt wise) to flip enemy camps or to kill their yaks?

As in, could a 4-man team roam around the map just killing yaks rather than flipping the entire camp in a ppt tick and generate more ppt?

Assume two scenarios:
1. Camp w/o upgrades
2. Camp w/ upgrades

What are you going to do to prevent it? Strike them deaf, dumb and blind?

There is nothing that can stop a player on one server from talking to someone on another. How are you even going to prove anything if they are neither grouped or use chat? Could easily be voice com only.

You will have to accuse everyone on the map. Its really easier to accuse none and stop thinking about what’s impossible to fix, just play.

I have to agree here. The actual implementation of something that couldn’t be abused would be very difficult and certainly wouldn’t come close to the top of a priority list. Best to just accept it and learn to play around/counter it.

Anything that manipulates the system by giving the other team an otherwise unfair advantage is against the ToS. Having one account up and playing another and relaying that information to the “home team” would construe an unfair advantage, in that the information being relayed isn’t readily available for all players to make it an even playing field. It’s gaming the system. The game wasn’t meant to be played that way. And honestly? It just indicates, to me, a lack of skill or even a fear of fighting the enemy.

While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder. This also includes disrupting other people’s game experience by not actively participating in matches in good faith, a.k.a leeching.

Thanks for posting that bit of the ToS, I haven’t seen that part. That last sentence makes me very curious as to what Anet’s official position on this would be then.

Anet doesn’t have a say when others find their way into another teams TS/Vent/RC/Mumble to listen in however actively being on the opposing server’s map would seem to violate the ToS as you would be taking up a slot that someone else could be using to further their servers cause.

You can report a spy by creating an actual support ticket under “violations” with documented evidence: details, photos, chat logs, etc. Depending on what the guy is doing, they can or can’t do anything against him. For example, if he’s being verbally abusive, that’s against the ToS, and is bannable, just submit screen captures of his abuse in chat. If he’s just standing there relaying info to his teammates, that’s harder to prove. You just have to hope the guy is dumb enough to admit it to you via whispers or in map chat. If he does that, screen cap the chat log and submit that. It does work, Anet does look into it. But you have to file the actual ticket.

Spying in an MMO is a sign that people need to go outside and get some fresh air and stop treating the game like a second job, though. To even have to do any of what the above poster wrote to counter ‘spying’ seems just silly in the first place.

And that said, a spy is generally more useful than people realize. Particularly if they don’t know you have figured them out. They can be incredibly useful tools.

All of the methods above are pretty easy to implement.

Spying on the other hand is dedicated but if coordinated between the server can also be easy to implement. You just have to pool money to buy another account.

On the other hand, if people are offering themselves to be spies for money then that doesn’t take time at all. Likely, someone who wants some cash just messages you and you accept the transaction. Just be careful of those fake spies, they just want your gold

WvW is meant to be a type of war between servers. In war there are spies and as such it would make sense for there to be spies in WvW. In fact I think it adds a lot to the game.

It is the responsibility of the commanders and troops of the army to flush out spies in their TS/Vent/Mumble and adapt to things such as visible commander tags.

That is why competitive guilds use methods such as running tagless, password protected channels and of course whispers/diverse party channels or even something like a specific guild for commanders to share and chat on.

I was unaware that people are actually requesting money for the option to spy at some particular point but find it fascinating. In in the end it just makes it all the more real and complex.

Now the idea of reporting spies is something I find interesting as well but I would not do it to Anet. Some form of ‘report to commander’ system would be far more interesting that way it could remain in the players hands and a part of WvW.

I was wondering (as applied to WvW) whether or not wells stacked when placed on top of one another?

For example, if two well of corruption where placed in the same area at the same time is there a chance that each could pulse and take a boon off of the same enemy?

I believe I heard/read somewhere that the top layer takes priority but that may have been just for blasts.

Can anyone confirm how this works for me?

I feel your pain but I assure you it’s not a problem of discrimination. I live in the U.S. (EST) and I have the exact same problems. It’s a matter of connection.

Anet has provided a great update, but the better the update the more it’s going to be tough on those with low end comps and poor connections. This is not something they will always be able to avoid. Every update has not and will not be able to meet everyone’s needs or desires. This is simply an update that you(and me) will not be able to enjoy as well as those with a better setup.

I can only suggest that you enjoy what parts you can and be patient. If more people speak up about this type of problem then Anet will take notice and continue working towards a happy medium.

Ele or Necro?

Depends really on how you like to play. If you can give us some details on that it would help a lot.
Examples:

Roaming vs. Zerging vs. Coordinated Guild play
Range vs close combat
Ranged vs. DPS

Those examples are pretty basic and don’t in any way represent all the things you can do. Either way, I would suggest leveling each one up to 20-30 before jumping in or you might not find it very enjoyable.

Personally, I play a Necro and love it but I also really enjoy the Staff ele it’s just harder for me to play with all the attunement switching (comp isn’t fast enough to keep up in WvW).

The southsun achievements felt much more reasonable. Consider the scavenger hunt to get the flower back piece- that was 10-15 things to collect? Perfect, and they event let you skip one so you didn’t have to do the JP. It was a nice way to explore the island, and if you already had it took a very short amount of time to port to the locations. The piñatas and fireworks are a similar sort of scavenger hunt thing but 100? 150? And with no mini reward? And crab toss had multiple titles associated with it, while dragon ball has none. The only step forward for this event is the increased box drop rate (I didn’t get a single crate for the hours and hours I spent in southsun) and the awesome new food (though I wish there was a >80 level option). All in all I agree with the op, this is not a good direction for the living story achievements to take.

I think the difference around the achievements is due to the location. Because it is an extended event there needs to be achievements that can last the whole event in a more casual manner (the “press f” achievements). However, we are not in a map with events and mobs that can keep us busy in addition to the simpler events. Only now that we have the effigies and the beginning of the story are we starting to enter the open world.

Noticing lots of padding and almost no real content.

This game is amazing and I love it— because of the content that came out at launch through October.

I don’t know if different people are in charge or what— but the direction you’re taking the game in is bad.

I think the intention of these being the way they are is to give you something to do on the side throughout the whole of the event. Not to be grinded in one day.

The real meat of the event is finally approaching and only at the end do I believe we can judge.

And yet 20 of them would have given the same effect. Personally, to achieve the effect you describe (and I had a similar experience) I would rather they not respawn at all, there are a smaller set number of them spread out in interesting places and you have to go out and get them all, once.

I like this idea a lot. I think the great thing about these effigies is that you get to explore the world again. I personally have never even done map completion because I had no intention of going for a legendary. However, with dragon bash I now have a reason to do map completion:

-Lighting effigies (I suggest doing these with guildies, hitting holo’s along the way, and doing any missed map completion)

-Killing holo’s (Get those coffers and candy, you’ve got all month to do it and if your doing it alongside map completion it adds variety)

-Coffers (Before I avoided hearts but now with the additional reward of coffers it makes it worth it)
^don’t forget your mf gear!

OP is a hero. Agree completely.

It’s important to understand that they are trying new things and improving on systems as time goes on. It’s not gonna be perfect every time and it sure isn’t gonna be perfect on the first day.

For all the threads complaining, there are better ways of communicating “constructive criticism” that does not include whining and hating.

On the holograms, a party of 5 not spec’d in berserker gear is bliss. I farmed coffers forever yesterday. Got about 300-400 of them and then…sold them all

If your running around racing everyone to a point just invite them to party real quick. If your not planning on selling them then wait till it calms down. I only went at it yesterday because the hourly was awesome. Selling coffers for a high of 9s and a low of 6s was awesome.

That definitely sounds like a problem but if everyone can activate them and then the killing is also open to everyone it could open up the possibility of large parties forming around one coffer and farming it repeatedly which I would assume is an exploit. Depending on the re-spawn timer.

In the meantime if someone is doing that I would suggest a whisper and party invite so you can work together instead.

Opening 1000 regular Dragon Coffers [Merged]

From my understanding this is a month long event. In which case it is likely that you are not meant to have the proper odds to get tickets on the very first day. Unlike Southsun these coffers are much easier to obtain. That is the major improvement to the system and should be given at least a week (maybe less by dedicated farmers) to determine the if the drop rates are too low.

As for spending money on the coffers, It’s definitely not something I would recommend doing on the first day. Especially if the intention is not to support the game (whither that’s what actually happens) but instead to power your way to a skin. Again, you’ve got a month of events in which case you are likely to be rewarded coffers along the way.

Be patient, give it some time to work. ANET is making improvements on the system based on feedback.
