HoT Music Appreciation thread!

I’ve been a huge fan of music from the Guild Wars series from the time it first launched, and I just wanted to express that these have been some of the most beautiful and immersive songs I’ve heard from a series that I’ve always considered to have a killer soundtrack. My only regret is that there are only a handful of songs up on the Soundcloud so far. Hoping to see more, there are some really good ones I’ve heard in game that would be great for my morning walks. No rush though, and keep up the good work! ^u^

[Suggestion] Mastries: Diplomacy

I think that these would make for a solid batch of Masteries to work on. Giving the option to run any racial skills balances things out since anyone would be able to run any skills after investing some effort. I like the idea, but ANet would have to be careful to avoid repeating the issues with PvE skills in the first GW. There are a lot of things that could be made into masteries, and some people have cleared the full set of masteries for the jungle already.

Racial relations seems like a simple thing to invest points into for small benefits, and it has a precedent both in the jungle and even in the first game, interestingly. Perhaps something like this could be introduced over a Living World season (assuming we are still doing those?) to work on maintaining racial alliances while we plan out our next moves.

Our guild is having a similar, if not identical issue. We can’t run any of the PvE missions for this week because our level is below 10, and we are locked out of the other types of missions as well. We can’t convert influence into Favor since we spent it all on upgrades before launch, so that’s not an option either.

Our guild is small, we banded together to help another small guild get their hall but are waiting to earn enough Favor to get ours. With any luck, the elite spec cost reduction will quiet things down a little so those of us with less pressing concerns can be seen as well.

IIRC, there is no level requirement to run PvE missions. You should click on the cog icon to change the settings to PvE, the default last week was PvP and WvW. Just change it back.

the lv10 requirement is for unlocking more slots to have more missions. But by default, there should be 3 missions available each week.

Haha, now I feel super embarassed. I’m going to have to apologize to my guildies for being incredibly dense. I got confused because there weren’t any colored icons like there were last week. To be fair, they could make the launch mission button anywhere but the bottom of the page. I apologize for wasting your time, but thank you for helping. ^u^

Guild Favor Gone Wrong

Our Guild has had a similar problem, we selected PvE missions but we can’t actually trigger any of them because our guild level isn’t 10 yet. How can we raise our Guild Level without Favor, Influence, or Missions? Our guild has done missions in game before, but now we’re unable to do them because somebody decided that easy guild bounty needed to be level 10, and that doesn’t seem okay. I believe there should always be a basic mission available that a guild can at least attempt, rather than being locked out of content for a week or more. What do we need to do to get access to guild missions again, and will this happen to us next week as well?

Day Six Guild Hall Statistics

I have a concern to express, since this topic seems to be getting some attention about Guild Halls: our guild has no level appropriate Guild missions to complete, and thus no way to earn Favor to unlock our hall.

We would love to contribute a point to your statistics (our secret as to who for) but unfortunately we’re stuck waiting another week to see if we can earn Favor then. Sorry to spoil the mood, just wondering if this is a problem anybody is aware of as I’ve not seen any information about it anywhere else, and hopefully it’s a rare or isolated occurence.

That said, the only reason we’re so anxious about it is because we’re desperate to claim a hall of our own, we helped another guild claim theirs and you guys did a fantastic job. Keep up the good work, and hopefully we’ll be a tally mark on your betting board soon. ^u^

We are stuck through no fault of our own for at least another week, simply because we took it on faith that we could use PvE missions to earn our Guild Hall. What kind of solution do we have for this? I would like to know if ALL PvE missions are gated at L10, or if we just got super unlucky on our roll.

I started with a guild level of 6 and I was able to complete a guild mission over the weekend (WvW camp a camp for 10 minutes – super easy btw). I think we may be 7 or 8 now and we completed another guild mission last night (PvP Win 1 match, but we lost and still got credit – super easy lol but glitched?). Tonight we’re doing guild trek and may have to team up with a friendly guild (because we are also a small guild). We’re not level 10 yet but we’ve been able to do 3 (after tonight) guild missions so far.

I honestly don’t mind about having to run the missions, we’ve done guild missions before in our guild, the problem is that we CAN’T now. Even though we have been able to beat guild missions in the past, we currently can’t even attempt them because the guild missions in the PvE roll this week are all L 10 and over. There are literally no missions available for our guild to even attempt, much less complete.

We changed our Guild setting to PvE under the assumption that every category would have a “Level 1” mission that you could work on until you had a guild hall and could properly upgrade, but all our missions are level locked right now. We have to wait until the roll this Sunday just to see if any become available that we can attempt. My guild and I are all frustrated because this seems like the kind of issue that should have been checked ahead of time. At least one mission rolled each week should be attemptable by a first level guild, even if it requires effort to beat.

If we have to work on PvP or WvW missions to raise our level we will, but it sucks that nobody let us know this ahead of time, or checked to make sure that the mission collections enabled a guild to have at least one functional mission at all times.

For guilds like ours, we were ABLE to do PvE missions before but can’t now. It is difficult getting everyone together but that is the price we willingly pay as a smaller guild. Our issue has arisen from the fact that all the PvE missions we have available this week are locked out because we haven’t reached level 10 yet.

We could do, and have done the bounties, but now they’re locked behind that level cap. It seems unfair that something we’re fully capable of doing is blocked because the dice rolled ‘level 10 and up’. 1 bounty hunts were the training wheels to getting the hang of guild missions, but now they’re level 10?

If two people can claim a guild hall, let them. If our guild can handle a mission, we shouldn’t have to be told we’re not good enough when we’ve already done it many times before. Many small guilds worked very hard for what they had, and an arbitrary number shouldn’t be the only reason we can’t still have it.

Larger guilds always blow through content anyway, if not now then later when things are better understood in game. This isn’t about small guilds having all the things a large guild has, it’s about us wanting something at all. We can never compete with the large guilds due to player count and how easy it is for you to share the resource burden. Your large guilds still get to earn things much faster and more efficiently than us. If ArenaNet lets one and two person guilds exist, they should be able to earn a hall eventually. By the game’s definition, it is a guild, which is more important in this instance. If those guilds shouldn’t be allowed to earn anything, why are they allowed to exist at all?

Try to see things from our perspective. Big guilds have always been top dogs, and always will. The sheer number of players ensures that any upgrades you get have a minimal impact on each individual player, and you are rewarded by having the most stuff for being willing to work together like that. When new content for Guild Halls comes out, you guys will have everything complete and can throw the full might of your guild into acquiring it, while many of our smaller guilds will likely still have a great deal of work to do on what’s in game now.

If a small guild just wants a place to hang out and is willing to invest a great deal of personal time and effort to advance their Halls, why do you want to stop them? Many of us have been playing since launch and have worked very hard (to personal detriment) to maintain small guilds at a reasonable level. We already know we’ll never have all the things you have, and on an individual level we already have to work much harder than you for what little we do have. We’re not asking to have everything you do, all we want is a chance to earn a place to call home for ourselves.

While I feel that 1 person is not enough to qualify as a guild, I don’t think we should limit guild size arbitrarily. If 1 person can clear a mission, let him do it. Its already an established feature in game. A one person guild is already limited in how much they can accomplish based on size alone, no need to gate it off further.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to want a smaller guild. My guild is composed mostly of people I know IRL. If I wanted to build a jumping puzzle in our hall out of decorations, none of my friends would bat an eye, they know I love the jump puzzles. I might get in trouble for doing that sort of thing in a larger guild though, and I don’t want to have to abandon my friends just to gain access to a hall.

I invested a great deal of gold gathering resources to build our hall so our Guild wouldn’t have to compromise our ranks just to advance ourselves. It seems unreasonable to have content gated in the fashion that it is. Letting smaller guilds have halls should not have any effect on your own guild’s accomplishments.

Whether it’s the level for starting guild missions or the player cap, arbitrary gating has nothing to do with fun. Isn’t that what this game is supposed to be about?

Even as a small guild that IS willing to team up with another, there are issues. Our guild has no influence and no Favor. We have the manpower to claim our hall due to an alliance we made with another Guild, but we can’t earn our hall because we can’t do missions. If the Hall didn’t cost Favor, or if the Guild missions weren’t level 10 and over this week, we would already have it.

I’m reluctant to say people should be forced to work together with other small guilds, but we’re willing to adapt. If we had known PvE missions, the only missions we have experience with, would be locked at L10 we would have jumped into WvW or PvP to bother those folks long enough to get our hall.

This is in spite of us being a completely PVE guild. It’s not a good solution, but we would make it work. However, there was no mention of this, and even the devs said we could change our guild mission settings to play the mission type we prefer.

We are stuck through no fault of our own for at least another week, simply because we took it on faith that we could use PvE missions to earn our Guild Hall. What kind of solution do we have for this? I would like to know if ALL PvE missions are gated at L10, or if we just got super unlucky on our roll.

Even for smaller guilds that are willing to work together there are problems though. Our guild is large enough to claim our hall, and even teamed up to help another small guild get theirs, but we can’t earn Favor because all the PvE missions this week require level 10 and above.

Many of my guild mates have DC/latency issues, which don’t lend thrmselves well to competetive game modes, so we changed our preferred mission type to PvE. The hiccup here is that we can’t convert influence because we spent it all on upgrades. We would have held on to what we had if we knew the Guild Missions would be unplayable for us. It would be great to know if ALL PvE missions are over L 10, even the easy ones, so we can bite the bullet and inflict ourselves on PvP or WvW.

Favour for Guild Halls

This is my first time posting, but I felt like I needed to say something since I haven’t found any official response to this issue and I believe it needs some attention. We changed our guild settings to PvE missions, but our guild cannot do any of them because our Guild Level is too low. We can’t raise our level without building things, which we need a hall to do.

I assumed when switching to PvE missions that there would be at least one mission that could be run by a low-level guild. All of our guild’s influence was spent on upgrades prior to HoT’s launch. Are we trapped in limbo now unless we switch to PvP or WvW missions? We were so excited to get a Guild Hall since they were first announced, and have been enjoying almost everything else so far.

It was pretty disheartening to find out that we are locked out of our Hall for at least another week because we chose the kind of guild mission we prefer to play and there’s no way to play them. If we need to switch back to WvW or PvP missions to get our Hall we will, no questions asked, but I had hoped this sort of thing would end after the first batch of missions rolled. My Guild and I would like to know for sure before we commit to another week without being able to claim our Guild Hall.
