Hello all.
First off I just want to say I am a pretty new player, been playing on and off for a few months with reasonable breaks in between so not at max level yet (60 or so). Saying this I am mainly a pvp player in most other games and am wondering how warrior is in the current state of the game in WvW, Roaming and regular PvP matches?
Are we shoe-horned into set ‘cookie cutter’ builds or is there a decent amount of flexibility in the class to branch out and still be able to take people down like a DD ele and other power house builds I keep reading about?
I simply don’t want to hit level 80, start to get geared and find out that the profession is pants for most things (I’m leveling pve and not crafting as I have limited funds, only doing occasional EoTM when the zerg is strong or need a break) that I am wanting to do.
Also saying that how are they looking in the beta currently? I’ve been seeing amazing things with the necro’s elite spec, but the warrior seems to be more ‘meh’ by comparison. I also have a necro I’m on and off leveling and she is at 32 or so and have fun with her, but not pvped yet outside of the zerg fest of EoTM.
Any helpful pointers or opinions would be greatly appreciated, just try and limit the abbreviations, I don’t know a lot of them yet, thanks
So I’ve been chatting to some guild mates and RL friends about how they level a new character in GW2, assuming they didn’t have Tomes Of Knowledge of the level 20 birthday gift booster.
Most of them said either EoTM or dungeon runs with orginised groups. So what do you all think or do?
depends on if you know the basics of supply and demand and are willing to invest some time into making gold rather than leveling your character.
To make your first several gold I would suggest running around the starter zones with your gathering tools and just going hog wild gathering everything you can. Whilst doing that do any events that spawn (you can get some loot to sell from them for a few silver each on the trading post).
At the end of your play session, post everyhting you have on the trading post as a sell order (do not sell to buy orders, you get much less for your efforts, but get it right away, your choice really). Doing this for a few hours will get you several gold, more if your lucky.
After that you can start looking into other ways to make gold now that you have some to spend, like flipping items etc. However that is more advanced so do your research.
Didn’t think of the Speed one, I’ll look into it. Also I already have my underwater weapon with the bloodlust sigil so I indeed keep stacks. I also do map completion before moving on simply so I don’t backtrack later.
Also regarding costs, as my toons are currently sub level 39, I’m using the minor sigils which are around 30 copper per (not upgraded the warriors ones yet because I’m upgrading weapons shortly, but that will be to the major sigils).
Thanks for the replies.
Hello all. I have just got a quick question regarding elveling. I have currently got a level 35 elementalist and a 42 warrior ( and a smattering of sub level 20’s) and have been doing some research and have going with I think it’s Bloodlust (up to 25 stacks of power) and Fire (AoE fire pulse on crit)and going for precision gear to boost my crit chance for more AoE fire pulses to help with chain pulling and faster kill quest completion.
Now I am just wondering if there is a better combo of sigils or am I sitting on the better combo for leveling?
If your just going for the portal drop, why not mix it up witht he other zone too? having a mental blank on it’s name right now. Then go back when that also hits DR? May work, may not but worth a try I guess,
Hey all. I have been running around leveling a thief and am at around level 15 or so, but am finding that I’m so squishy and lack the sustain to be able to chew through mobs for questing/leveling.
I’m doing sword/pistol but still seems to bean exercise in frustration. The armor I have is at level/masterwork and ive got health on it but still going squish too easily for my liking. Any suggestions? I’ve read the leveling guide for thieves but it is out of date regarding SP’s and such.
It;s not a problem for me at all, I’m not complaining or anything. I’m simply curious if there is any advantage or disadvantage in PvP for those that are truly die hard/hard core about it and try to min/max in every way possible (I’m not one of those people, I’m pretty casual due to work and other games). In this case, smaller characters taking a few crucial seconds to target could mean the difference between a win or a respawn.
I didn’t know that all characters have the same hit box, interesting. Thank you for that bit of info. However it still makes the asura harder to click on in a scrum of larger characters simply due to body blocking.
So I’ve been mainly running around as either a human or norn character, always made the smallest possible, for no other reason than I like the look more than large characters of those races. However I have noticed when I go to do WvW or PvP in general with a group, the larger character players get prioritized first (usually Charr then Norn then whatever is left with Asura usually last).
Now i this just the way of things? Bigger target, easier to click on thus easier to focus down or is there more organization to it in organized group PvP. If this is true, if you wanted to be ‘optimal’ for PvP of any sort and don’t really care for your characters looks, it would be best to go for a Asura, unless your going for a bunker style, tanky character/build designed to draw attention, then going with a large male Charr to be easier to target (yes, getting meta I guess, but still..mind games and such).
I’m pretty interested in this as in other games I’ve played its been big guys die first, especially in games where tab targeting isn’t used but cross hairs (Fallen Earth for example).
Anyways interested in reading some replies on this.

Hello all.
I have a pretty basic question but would like to know peoples opinions. It’s simply thus: Is crafting worth the investment for a newer/low level player (sub level 40ish)?
I know crafting your own gear can be a boon as RNG on drops can be horribly bad for some people and gold early on seems to be elusive (least for me) and crafting can be seen as a stop gap till something better comes along. However the investment in gold to get it up if you don’t have much to begin with can be hard I’m finding. So what I’m really asking is, is crafting in this game ‘worth it’ in the long run? Outside from exp for leveling and convinience?
Also how is crafting for gold making when it comes to the end game items? Can it be made with crafting or is it just more economical to just sell off all the materials you gather as they sell faster and you loose minimal potential profit on a crafted item that never sells?
Thanks for your time
I have been going over some of the old videos on youtube with Rangers running around totally forsaking the bow and going GS S/S (think it’s S/S anyways( and able to out sustain warriors and such in melee only fights (granted sPvP and some small WvW roaming).
Now some of these videos are from late last year and say there where some changes shortly after they where put up so their viability I have no idea about (my ranger is only level 18 or so).
Any ideas/experience/advice as to this being possible would be great. I’m adding some of the links so people can get an idea of what I’m on about also.

I love the Ranger class but just unsure if you can do melee in pvp and not just be peeing against the wind in the process.
Thanks in advance
PS: I made a post lastnight but it seems to of gotten eaten somehow, so remaking.

Hello all.
I am considering rolling a necromancer but after reading a load of threads and several youtube video viewings it seems that the general consensus is that they are bottom of the barrel for PvE because every other profession brings more to the table as well as being similar or better DPS. In regards to PvP it seems to be mixed.
Now as a new player I am wanting to not ‘waste my time’ on a character that get’s shunned at mid to max level due to the professions failings (my own I can live with, I can get better eventually if need be). This is due to having limited gaming time and having no real intention of being ‘cutting edge’ if that makes sense.
I love the idea of a dark magic spell slinger and summoner however I am very cautious with jumping in for the above reasons.
Can some of you kind folks sell me on the necro? Seeing so many negatives is very off putting but I really want to give it a shot and not be disappointed 20 hours in.
Thanks everyone
Hello all, I know this get’s asked here a lot by new people but I’m going to ask also anyways and see what teh general communities suggestions are.
First off a bit of background: I just bought the game with the sale that just went on and am having fun just experimenting with several different profs (ranger 11, warrior 8, necro 5 so far). I have been playing MMOs for around 10 years and usually enjoy a ranged class or a melee bruiser, but not a pure tanky character. I also really enjoy large scale pvp (I guess in this game it would be the World Vs World?) and would like a character that is useful in that sort of thing. solo pvp for me is not an overly fun thing due to playing with constant 250ms+ latency so I’m always at a handicap, even if it’s a small one, as well as the inevitable egos that get swung around when someone wins or looses. I also want to be useful to the team in pvp (and I guess pve too) and not play a purely selfish character. Finally I like a little complexity and flexibility with the profession, simple classes simply bore me to tears eventually.
What I don’t like is a stationary character that isn’t overly mobile. I don’t mind having limited mobility in some situations, but having to stop and hard cast all the time I find annoying and breaks the fluidity of combat for me, saying that I don’t really care either way about having someone that can zip all over the place, sure it’s nice but not important, a happy middle ground and above I guess.
From what I’ve seen and played, the Ranger seems to be what I enjoy the most right now, at low level, however I have no idea how they perform at higher levels and have not watched any youtube videos about them yet, however warriors seem to be able to do soem pretty amazing things with a GS/Hammer combo from what I’ve seen in pvp (admittedly at near top gear levels I would assume which is out of reach).
As I said I’ve only played 3 professions thus far and may be missing some fun things with teh other professions I’ve not tried so any insights as to if they would kind of fit what I’m looking for would be great.
I know this is long and I thank you for your time if you have read this in advance.
