If you’re going to over clock and you like ASUS products, go for one of their Maximus VII boards (if it fits the budget).
Also, as a note, while GPU is very important, GW2 tends to be fairly CPU-intensive. So getting a good CPU is a good idea, that i5 is fine. I personally have the i7 4790k in my rig, it’s a good chip. That being said, your PC is only as good as its worst part – so do consider getting a better GPU when you can. I’d actually seriously suggest you not go with a 750ti, rather pay a bit more and get a good aftermarket GTX 970. They’re incredibly affordable considering their efficiency and power, cost about the same as most 770 cards, and will all but guarantee everything you run with that rig will be smooth as butter on Ultra for the next 3-4 years.

I would tell you that if you’re looking to do more survivability and support and give up a bit on damage output, Guardian is for you. If you want really fast-paced combat, try Thief, and if you want good DPS output, fun combat and a lot of flexibility, go Warrior. But as everyone else said, every profession can basically do melee and ranged combat effectively, it’s really up to you and your playstyle.

Xiahou Mao.9701, thank you for that. I played GW2 back during the beta but left shortly after launch, and came back about two months ago because I really wanted to see all of the story. Not being able to go through the first season after the personal story (which, by the way, is incredibly difficult to follow now that they restructured it) left me feeling very lost, and somewhat discouraged. It’s nice to have at least some knowledge of what happened, and your description helped a bunch.
Now, on to Season 2 – hopefully I’ll be able to fill in all of the holes and it’ll be smooth sailing from here.

Hi there. I just rolled a new character, and I’m running through story quests and encountered this bug. During the “Accusation” quest for Humans, I’m told to go speak with Sergeant Hal in Divinity’s Reach. However, whenever I take my character within a few feet of the NPC, my client disconnects from the server. I can’t speak with Hal either. NPCs around him work fine, but once I get to the foot of the steps or further up, I disconnect from game.
Please look into this, or if there’s something I can do and I’m missing it, let me know. It’s rather disruptive and game-breaking in terms of story progression.
