Honestly, so glad I chose NSP as my server at first. Currently looking for a good guild though.

Anyone want to start a small guild?

I’m your average solo player, but with the recent drop of HOT, I thought, why not? Guild halls look good and I want to enjoy the new WvW mode and new raids, so I thought maybe it would be worth building something up from scratch. Anyone interested? Please PM.

I see no point of this outside of player housing.

Is that not good enough?

Like other craftables, there won’t be much of a market, because everyone will have access to this skill, and there’s pretty much no place that excludes the average player.

Maybe if you can salvage them for ecto.

Unless it requires high level crafting to complete. If it takes enough resources to craft, the finished product could cost a couple g’s in the tp. Or maybe paintings would be one time uses achieved by upgrading crafting in the guild tab. There are many ways this could be done.

Just might be me, but I see no point to this at all. But hay, if people like it and want it. Fill your boots.

The best part is, there is no point! It would just be fun to have a creative profession in the game.

Concept: You craft or purchase a certain size canvas. Upon using it in your inventory, you guide the target line (the target used to create burning walls) and capture down whatever stands before that target into a stylized piece of art, similar to the painting style in Sims 3.

Why: To hang it in a guild hall or to sell. To prevent spamming on the TP, canvas materials would be expensive and create a new purpose for leather materials. And let’s be real we would mostly buy pictures of quaggan.

I’m finding it telling that my ‘pointless’ opinion, and sparse sentences, generates paragraph after paragraph of argument from you, Leo. Perhaps it’s you who is emotional. Regardless, I’ve said my piece, offered alternatives, and will leave it at that.

The answer is still no.

“No” doesn’t sound like much of an alternative. No matter what this turns in to, it doesn’t hurt to pitch community ideas and try to revive collaboration in the game. Having a new dlc is our best chance of getting new features added, and something as simple as writing stories or having an official in-game rule book for your guild would be an awesome little treat for those who appreciate that stuff. It’s no so much the functionality, but letting the players have a bit more personal freedom with our guilds and our experience. I’ll take having to sift through my guild library deleting Rytlock and Logan smut if it means I can share stories and express my sense of creativity in-game.

Every minute dedicated to developing such an item would most likely take away from developing more game updates that would appeal to the majority of the player base.

I’m cool with you not liking the idea, but can Anet really not handle developing what is essentially a guild notebook on top of future updates?

No, just really open for abuse from abusive players.

Imagine receiving a book in the mail with negative and abusive comments from random strangers? Random strangers as they swapped to an alt trash account before commenting as they knew that account would probably be banned.

Don’t believe someone would throw away an account? Look up GW Dhuum ban on YouTube. Those accounts were thrown away just to enable minion rezzing by others.

If someone could write comments in a book then send to another abuse and trolling would catapult to a new level and I really don’t want to see that here.

This is a problem I have with people on forums that post in suggestion threads. They post about easily solvable problems as if they are insurmountable and don’t even attempt to actually solve the issues with critical thinking.

I mean, yeah, the idea isn’t yours to ‘fix’ but the OP puts out a suggestion and you consider problems with it and THEN apply additional limits or alterations that then circumvent the issues or mitigate them.

This process is called brainstorming. Now if you have no suggestion on how to solve the issues you bring up, that’s okay. But don’t ignore the posts of other creative thinkers that will come behind you and suggest a hotfix to what you’re saying. In the end, the whole purpose is to make a more solid idea.

If you simply don’t like the idea then just say so. Trying to poke holes in the idea because you don’t like it only works if those holes are substantial.

Seriously. This is why we can’t have nice things.

First off, that’s no different then receiving something rude in the mail. Second, that wouldn’t be a thing since it would be a soul bound item that could only be viewed by the writer or by being placed in a guild library by consent of the Guild Leader. Does this not sound fool proof?

Now imagine a player selling stories on the Trading Post…

Did you read the original post? I said nothing about trading them. The idea is that they are only readable in personal environments.

It’d also be pretty handy if you had a kind of “digital bookshelf” of books you’ve read and might want to look up again. And by that, I mean a UI tap where you can access anywhere and reference things written by other players or actual in-game lore.

Those lore junkies would likely put such an option to good use if they want to refresh themselves on certain things or for a quick reference to relevant knowledge.

That would be awesome.

it would compete and clash with “official” storytelling. Not a good idea.

Why? It’s not a canon story telling mechanism, it would just be for those who want to write guides or short stories for their guilds.

Nice idea, but there are already websites to share fanfics and character histories/stories.

Unfortunately if this was in-game, this would just be something that A-net would have to spend time and money policing. It wouldn’t be worth their resources as very few people would benefit from it.

Did you read the edit I made about it being only in instances and guild halls? There is no monitoring needed. And managing inappropriate content is no different than chat.

Option A: Add the ability and limit the number of books but they are only available in the players home instances/guild halls like book stands. So for other players to read it they need to party and go to your instance. This controls the amount of books and itemids in the world as well as limit its effect on TP spam and filtering.

This seems to be the best. I’ll put this on the OP.

I know its kinda late to hop on the “add this feature” train, but I’m new here and I really think this would be a nice addition to the game.

Concept: Guilds can upgrade their guild halls and build libraries to house member made books. To make it easier for Anet, there would be a limit to the number of books and they would only be available in the guild halls on book stands. Finished books wouldn’t be items and could only be viewed by the writer or by being placed in a guild library by consent of the Guild Leader. So for other players to read it they would need to be in the same guild.

Why: This opens a new door to creativity in the community and more functions for those who enjoy fan fiction and writing. Players could write stories of their guilds to share, or in game guides to help other players.

I’m fairly new to gw2, but I have found myself immersed in the story and open world layout. There appears to already be a presence of creativity on this site, but I thought it would be a cool addition to start writing fan-made lore. I myself will start writing in google docs, and I will extend an invitation to anyone who wants to write with me. The story format will exist in a series of short chapters each designed to enlighten and explain events in the world of Tyria. Reply or PM if you are interested.

Cheers,
