your ‘problem’ is … ntdll.dll … ask Mr Google

Which could also be GW2.exe accessing specific methods from ntdll.dll that are throwing unhandled exceptions or are behaving unexpectedly. A way to trace this is what my post is all about. Mr Google can’t tell me what method is barfing and crashing GW2.

Thank you for your help.

I did a little research. There are no ArenaNet.log or Crash.dmp files in my Guild Wars 2 installation directory unfortunately.

Please post the crash text.

Where do I find that? The application suddenly closed and Windows tried to recover it. I have multiple Application Error events, 6 that I can find, recorded in my logs:

Revenant First Impression

in Revenant

Posted by: JLDubz.1257

My initial impression of the Revenant:

-A lot of the utility skills for all of the legends only seem useful in group combat. Since I play solo a lot of the time, they seem like half skills because I do not get the full effect. I have no other skill choices; so what am I gonna do? I am banking on many more choices for skills when the class is fully released.

-The hammer felt awkward to play at first, but after a little “training” it played nicely. I usually play ranger; so I love to pew pew. I have neither complaint nor praise for it though. I can definitely see myself using this with Ventari in a support role in group play.

-The Mace/Axe combo is probably my favorite. I have a hard time playing melee for some reason, but I really enjoy playing m/a. Echoing Eruption sometimes breaks stun, and I don’t know if it is supposed to. It is a great combo for might buffs when used after skill 2 – I don’t remember what it is right now. The 5 skill for axe doesn’t really seem to work as intended or maybe I’m not using it right. This has great synergy with Malyx and Jalis.

-The staff was…ok. I don’t like it. It is super weak. There is a trait that mentions orbs created by the staff, but I cannot find any mention of orbs in any of the skill descriptions on the staff. Am I missing it? I will keep trying it and give another report on it.

-Why are there no traits that buff any of the weapons? There are traits like this on every other class. If there are some, they really didn’t stand out to me.

-Malyx is my favorite to play because of the conditions, but I find myself just spamming Banish Enchantment, using Embrace the Darkness and then Empowering Misery and it will usually burst most groups of npcs down. Pain Absorption seems completely useless unless I’m playing in a group. I haven’t figured out how to use Unyielding Anguish to its fullest; so I will hold off on any comments until I try it more.

-Jalis is a great alt Legend to play with Malyx. You can stack tons of conditions with Malyx and then flip over to Jalis and heal for massive amounts and then stun. I like it, but it plays slow on its own. Another thing I need to play with more.

-Ventari is another one of the things that only seems useful in groups. I am completely unable to play with it soloing and running around. I understand that isn’t what it was designed for, but I would be very interested in seeing how it could be used in a more pseduo-offensive nature – to keep with Ventari’s principal.

-Overall it is fun to play, and I am excited to get the finished class and level one up. It needs some work, but it is only a beta release.

Ever since the June 23rd update, I have been experiencing client crashes very often. I have experienced it while doing nothing in particular. I have been standing in Lion’s Arch, running around the Cursed Shore, doing events in Dry Top etc; It doesn’t really matter. Sometimes it happens multiple times in a row almost completely inhibiting my ability to do anything – I had just walked into the Skritt Queen cave in Dry Top after waiting for a while and the game crashed preventing me from getting the rich vein for another hour; frustrating. Interestingly enough, there were a bunch of Windows Updates that were installed on June 23rd as well; so I have been hesitant to make this post up until now. because I’m not sure what the cause could be. Is there anything that can be done to help me identify what is causing all of these crashes so I can get back to enjoying the game?

Thank you very much!

[Forum Specialist] Specialization Update

in Ranger

Posted by: JLDubz.1257

JLDubz.1257

Before the update, I played a condi trap ranger almost completely in PVE; because I tend to do a lot of solo play. My gear was balanced for survival (toughness, vitality) and damage (condi, power, precision) I was constantly tweaking things to improve my damage output while trying to not sacrifice too much survivability; as my survivability was rather low. I usually had a LB/SB mix for lots of pew pew and running around.

1 – After the update, my build had to be completely redone. It immediately seemed easier to survive, but with the lack of ground targeting for traps my play style became a little too defensive. If I want to play that style I will get on my Engi and play with turrets. As great as the traps are, they end up slowing me down while wandering maps and preventing me from dodging around as much as I do during combat. Maybe I just need to learn to kite my opponents better… This has pushed me over to a condi survival build which has been pretty awesome. Wilderness Knowledge is one of my favorites for the 2 condi removal and fury which gives me tons of condi cleanse while using trolls, lightning reflexes, quickening zephyr and entangle (I usually have a signet on for passive depending on the situation/map) LOYF is worth not having the quickness on weapon swap for the arrow piercing. Maybe not so in PVP or WVW but in PVE it is gold when fighting groups of enemies. especially because I have QZ and then poison volley x2 puts a significant number of poison stacks on groups, but I digress.

2 – Spirits were a fun support build I would play if I was bored before the update or if I wanted to run around with passive buffs. Now, I can’t see myself ever using them. They are stationary and, just like traps now, make you less mobile which makes them a waste of a utility slot in PVE because AI kills them real quick. And because there is no burst proc on death it makes them useless. I can only really see them being used in very specific situations where a ranger has a LB and is pewpewing from distance; which is then still not that great cause the range won’t really help any teammates in close combat. I like the idea of spirits, but it isn’t a feasible play style.

3 – The pet’s survival has increased slightly for me. I have a hard time with pet swapping actively; so pet central builds are tough. I’ve never used a shout… ever. Beast Master is a weird build to try and make. The shouts aren’t really offensive in nature; so you are almost always sacrificing a damage boosting utility for a defensive shout which makes it difficult to have good damage output. I always imagined a BM build where your pet hits super hard and you focus on aiding your pet/keeping them alive, but that never works. The pets just don’t ever do enough damage; so I end up spending more time trying to increase damage output so I’m not standing there forever to kill a couple mobs. In short, the problem is that there is no way to shift the focus of a build to the pet correctly without sacrificing huge amounts of damage potential making play extra slow and boring. Random idea, grandmaster trait that allows both pets out at once. There would have to be a lot of work put into balancing and adjusting things to make that even close to feasible, but something big needs to be done to open a pet master build up as a workable play style.

4 – I had been using opening strikes before the update, but I am not longer; so I don’t have much input here.

5 – No input.

Ranger Longbow Bug?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: JLDubz.1257

JLDubz.1257

I am not sure if this has been posted or not. I searched but found nothing on the subject.

When using the longbow as the Ranger, if I use Barrage, and it is actively hitting enemies in its zone, the stealth that is granted from Hunter’s Shot is immediately interrupted once granted as if I did something to break stealth. I understand that this is because the system registers that I am “attacking” an enemy with barrage, but I don’t feel like it should work this way. This feels wrong. When using traps, I do not believe this occurs, but I will double check.

1- Barrage
2- Hunter’s Shot
3- Stealth Granted from Hunter’s Shot
4- Barrage strikes an enemy and stealth is broken

Is this intentionally designed this way?

Thank you for the additional info. Sorry, I’m late to the episode 5 discussion.

Maybe we are hoping to use the egg to replace one of the elder dragons with a “good” dragon.

Warning: Story Spoilers for Season 2

I am a huge fan of the lore of Guild Wars. Anet does an amazing job with their writing. In the middle of Season 2 we were given a cinematic that showed us The Eternal Alchemy. There was a whole ton of speculation around that, and there still is. I don’t think any of it has actually been “answered” yet, but, I believe I found a little clue from Anet while playing through the rest of Season 2

While wandering around the Arcana Obscura, in the “Echoes of the Past” episode (it doesn’t show up in the later episodes), I stumbled on a book called “The Map of the All” The book reads as follows:

“If you’re not mistake, this tome was written by someone known as the Apostate. It appears to describe something similar to what you saw in your vision of the Eternal Alchemy.”
“The author calls it the Antikytheria, describing it as cosmic mechanism made of many parts, all spinning around a central body known in ancient Krytan as Thyria.”
“Six large bodies orbit the world, existing in primal symbiosis. The energies move with the push and pull of positive and negative, ever in motion.”
“The Apostate says one thing that is especially troubling…‘Should the energies become imbalanced, the world will tilt and all beings will fall off it into the void.’ It’s probably a metaphor.”

This is all sorts of interesting to me.

First, this is cool because the Apostate was a friendly Margonite that you meet in the Realm of Torment in GW Nightfall; not much else on that end, but still cool to me.

Second, This text screams foreshadowing based on the last snipit. The story writers said themselves, “no text is wasted.” What could this mean for the future of Tyria and GW? We unbalanced the world by killing Zhaitan and our vision showed us something very similar.

Thoughts?

New theory: What we saw ...

in Living World

Posted by: JLDubz.1257

JLDubz.1257

I had a theory couple of days ago:
In Guild Wars 1 we could see a strange inscryption carved in the Bloodstones located in the Maguuma Jungle and Abaddon’s Mouth It was also present on the Bloodstone Caves’ door and it looked like this: http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/3/3e/Bloodstone_Inscription.png

I decided to simplify it a bit and overlay on the GW1/GW2 map to match the known locations of the Bloodstones.

Here are the results (Warning – this image is heavy!):
http://i.imgur.com/4j1W6zQ.jpg

Here is the problem with your theory. The bloodstone was split into 5 pieces not 6. The fifth piece is a keystone that is used to join the other pieces and was given to the bloodline of Doric (PS the royal Krytan locket that Mordremoth was trying to steal in the LS that has never been mentioned before and is called a “powerful magical artifact”)

This means that we know about 3 of the 4 pieces. The 4th is missing and I presume that Queen Jennah holds the keystone (the 5th piece) as she is currently the sole decadent of Doric.

My theory: Mordremoth is looking to reassemble the bloodstones just like Zhaitan was gathering artifacts to consume. This could also be what the vision was referencing. If Mordremoth was to reassemble the bloodstones the entirety of Tyria would be rocked. Magic as we know it would be transformed.
