I would like to try this build, but I’m curious about your weapon choices on the buildcraft link. You didn’t really mention your weapon usage, so why choose D/D and P/P instead of going D/P and Shortbow? I just don’t see the use of mainhand pistol and it seems there’s plenty of stealth already so Cloak and Dagger could be sacrificed for more HS combos.
Also, since you rely heavily on blinds, how does the build fare against bosses who are less affected by blind?
There’s a staff in that picture?
If some of the people here are right (German for “testicles”) then don’t you think Anet is doing you a favor?
Plato, I saw you running around Lion’s Arch just before I took some of the screens below. Congrats on your legendary!
I’ve been taking pics along the way as a sort of armor progression. I wish I had remembered to take more.
I do tend to visit Divinity’s Reach more often no matter what race I’m playing. It’s a beautiful place, but the layout is simple as well.
30 – Valor – Strength of the Fallen, Strength in Numbers, Altruistic Healing
30 – Honor – Resolute Healer, Two-Handed Mastery, Battle Presence
10 – Virtues – Master of Consecrations
These traits are a little heavy on survival, but there is a good amount of support/healing in there. I use those major traits more often in dungeons, sometimes I use others. Master of Consecrations is for Wall of Reflection.
6 – Shelter
7 – Hold the Line
8 – Wall of Reflection
9 – Signet of Judgement
10 – Renewed Focus
Really the only times I’ve been defeated in dungeons is when the whole team wipes or if there’s a 1-shot mechanic I didn’t know about (rolling rocks in CoF). I survived the airship in Arah the first time.
I have a well geared lvl 80 Guardian and I have been using a GS almost exclusively (except when ranged was needed). I can’t really comment on the number crunching because it’s not how I play games, but I can say the GS has worked very well for me in dungeons (story and all explore paths). I agree that it’s unwise to go for full dps builds, but my build is pretty much full survival and I am rarely ever defeated in dungeons. It’s much more important to stay alive and keep damaging your enemies than to do more damage quicker and end up a corpse on the floor.
Having said that, if you don’t wish to have much in the way of toughness and vitality from traits or gear, then I really can’t agree with using the greatsword. It’s a complete AoE/control weapon with a multi-target draw-in that should be used by someone who can take more hits than the rest of his team. I’m sure many players can make it work, but I see it as a more effective front line weapon than pure dps. It’s a weapon that gets a lot of enemy attention, so you have to build your character accordingly. I can only assume this is why you die so much, and maybe your chosen traits just aren’t defensive enough to counter the target on your back when you use the GS.
I have trouble believing that finding a dungeon group for story modes is “impossible” in any way. I would agree that it is more difficult, but a little effort to reach out and accomplish something is really what keeps an MMO from becoming stale for me.
I am opposed to a WoW style dungeon finder and agree with the points people have made against it. I would love to see a social interface for finding groups (much like matchmaking for PvP), but something as simple as a LFG channel/filter might make things run smoother.
“Carrot on a Stick” should be a recipe, then we could easily solve this dilemma. It’s not, right? I wouldn’t know, I’m not a cook.
Can anyone explain the main differences in gameplay between Warrior and Guardian?

Warrior feels purely physical while the Guardian is more of a hybrid of physical/magical. How they play really hinges on your build, but the Warrior’s greatest strength is damage output while the Guardian’s strength is survivability.
They have said there are plans to improve the home instances, but not specifically adding player housing. I assume any kind of housing they add in the future would be in the home instance anyway.
norn has two big feet
Fixed the thread title, and you’re right!
Don’t forget the gods’ karma sets come with their own superior runes with set bonuses. If you mix and match you will have to buy a few off the trading post, so factor that into your plans. I was going to mix and match, but went with Melandru’s exotic set as it has the most power/toughness/vitality and additional toughness and negative condition duration/stun duration on the runes.
If you’re looking for weapons with similar stats, the Ascalonian Catacombs vendor has many of them.
Head injuries are no laughing matter. That being said, I think ANet has been dealing with the issue and updating us well enough.
