I would love to talk to one of these “thriving” guilds. Every guild I talk to complains about all the older players bailing and new players coming in and complaining about everything sucking and being pointless. Probably because everything IS pointless in WvW. Its like a little league basketball game, everyone wins and everyone gets a trophy….I think most of us out grew that somewhere around age 5. (most of us…)
It’s really not hard. Run around WvW and look for a bunch of ppl with the same guild tag. /w one of them and ask them about their guild. Maybe consider joining
My guild didn’t work out because the game didn’t work out. Almost all of the guild of the Alliance I was in (close to ~ 14 or so guilds) have all left the game or have lost lots of members. Not because they were bad guilds, not because the members got mad at their leaders – but because WvW failed to live up to their promises due to the points I have outlined.
So if your guild didn’t work out because the game didn’t work out, then why is it that there are so many other guilds that are having fun and thriving doing small 10-15 man WvW group tactics? I would say to try joining one of those guilds on IoJ, but I know a lot of them moved to Fort Aspenwood.
1. Commander is an absolute mess
I agree the commander system is a mess. I still believe it should cost 100g for then initial Blue Dorito. But after you get a Dorito you should have to work to achieve higher ranks that will modify the way your blue dorito looks.
Maybe a 4-tiered commander system?
- 4th Class Commander:
You spent 100g cool story bro.
- 3rd Class Commander:
You’ve captured X number of towers.
- 2nd Class Commander:
You’ve captured X number of keeps.
- 1st Class Commander:
You’ve captured Stonemist X number of times.
That way players can instantly tell a seasoned veteran commander from a pay-for-gold commander. Some decent commanders will still have to work their way up to higher rank, but you should have to put in the effort to be respected.
2. The roles/rewards/recognition of Guilds in a game called ‘Guild Wars’ is lacking
I like some of the things you mentioned
- Guild name on NPC’s of claimed objectives.
- “Guild X has claimed Objective Name” displayed when claiming objectives.
- Ability to see all guild members on map and mini-map. Why not Yellow Dots??
3. WvW has devolved into ZvZ (ZergvZerg)
It really hasn’t. OP obviously hasn’t played with a small tight group of organized players specifically designed for WvW tactics. You can take objectives, defend objectives, fight zergs with a small 5 man group. You need coordination and strategy. There will always be zergs in any large scale PvP game. You can’t complain about it, you outsmart them. AOE limit has a small part, they should uncap the AOE limit and scale damage down based on how many people are getting hit. But saying that WvW is ZvZ is just griefing because you are getting killed by zergs and don’t know how to play smart.
The biggest disappointment I feel from WvW is that not only has it cost me the positive impression I had of Arenanet but that it’s cost me my guild.
I put a lot on the line banking that this game type would be sustainable, fun and interesting for the long haul. More than just my money – I put my time into forming a guild, recruiting, personally interviewing every single one of my members to make sure they were the type we were looking for, created a website, images, youtube, twitter, twitch, facebook – all of that.
I guess I took that gamble when creating a guild but kitten if I didn’t think that this game was the one and that Arenanet actually had commitment to their product. This game type’s failure has cost me some friends and that is the biggest disappointment.
This post really makes you (the OP) look like you’re griefing over the fact that your guild didn’t work out. Sorry but it’s not Arena.net’s problem your guild fell apart or your friends got mad at you and left.
AOE’s have traditionally been used to punish large groups that don’t spread out. I never understood the limit of 5 targets… It really allow large groups to exploit it by stacking up on a commander. AOE’s should be able to hit all targets standing in it, forcing the group to spread out. But AOE’s shouldn’t do as much damage as a single target skill, which is the trade off for hitting multiple people. LHound’s idea sounds pretty awesome.
.1 – Reduce the effectiveness of the AoE strikes with the amount of players hit by them:
Players using AoE Skills are imo one of the Best Anti-Zerg Mechanics and the most mobile one. However there is thin line where they act as a Zone Nuclear strike instead of a Zerg Breaker. This could be corrected by adjusting the power of the skill depending on the amount of targets hit.
-Up to one target: 80% Skill Damage (As it is ANet intention to tone down effectiveness of AoE’s while fighting solo players);
-Up to 5 targets: 100% Skill Damage;
-Up to 10 targets: 80% Skill Damage;
-Up to 20 targets: 60% Skill Damage;
Watched myself get caught and die outside of tunnel of the lord’s room… lol Thanks for the confidence boost, guys!
Hey guys. Had a lot of fun in Kaineng Borderlands last night during reset. Our small group helped capture and defend many supply camps throughout the fight. Then we focused on defending Greenwater to help keep Hills supplied up after it was captured. We were doing great for a while, holding off large groups of Kaineng with the siege we had placed up on the hills surrounding the camp. Then it seemed Yak’s Bend wanted to come over and get a piece of Greenwater… which they did. At that point Yak’s Bend would flip the camp, then we’d take it back, then Kaineng would flip it, and so on. It was like Yak’s and Kaineng were coordinating their attacks against Greenwater! You guys really didn’t want us to have it lol.
Then it came down to the defense of the Hills Lord Room. It was pretty funny to have Yak’s bend on one side of the tunnel entrance, and Kaineng on the other side. We were hoping you guys would wipe each other out!
BP… A lot of their big guilds started leaving after they hit a wall in WvW rank climbing. We stuck around for a bit but decided to ditch after we learned free transfers were ending. I have a few friends here on CD that said the community was great, so we chose this as our new home.
Not sure how CD is bleeding guilds since it was hell trying to get my entire guild over to the Desert when their server status was 99% of the time Full… Now that transfers are open again I was able to get all 25-30 members over
PM’d Shazirah about the blackout period as I’m trying to get the rest of my guild over to Crystal Desert
Hey guys, I figured I’d introduce my guild here. I’m Jimmy Rstles, Leader of Valhalla Hungers guild. We recently transferred over to CD from BP. We’re a group of 15 active players, all friends IRL in the NA Eastern Time Zone. You can find us mostly in the enemy borderlands raiding supply camps and running disruption tactics.
We left BP after realizing it was a bandwagon server and all the big guilds left. We chose Crystal Desert because we had a few friends here that were very proud of the server’s stable community and population. We’ll be here to stay as we have decided to make this server our guild’s permanent home.
Having a good time with some fellow Ehmry Bay players,
It was pretty fun running around with them killing BP.
And doing some 1v1s against eachother.Some guy on our server reported us for having to much fun with the game.
Thanks for everyone who was there, Had a good time!
WvW was actually fun for DH for once .
Yup! Nice to know some people won’t kill you while you’re running around naked trying to farm mats in WvW :P
Edit I was the naked BP player running around farming mats in DH borderlands.

I’d also like to add that although I’ve only been doing WvW for a short time from lvl 40-55 now, I’ve racked up over 200 kills which is definitely nothing to brag about, but it is enough to know that I haven’t been useless while in WvW. I really don’t feel that you have to be 80 to enjoy WvW.
So, that leaves the imagery that WvW is just used as a leveling method rather than a PvP method.
It is both a leveling method and a PvP method. You can think of it as playing on a PvP enabled MMO server where the quests objectives/mobs are towers/keeps/other players.
I think more people will realize that it isn’t the alt-F4ers that are complaining but those who get DC from things out of their control, such as a transformer blowing up and power going out. I’m sure that not everyone has a battery backup attached to their computer/modem.
If someone lives in a place where transformers are blowing up so much the person feels the need to complain on an MMO forum about their repair bill, that person should move. Seriously..it just sounds dangerous there.
Taken out of context as the rest of my post says:
Whatever, it’s just 1 down that results in 1 damaged gear maybe once in a blue moon, but it still kinda sucks having to pay for that.
Edit The point many are trying to make is that it is not fair to be punished by something that may be out of your control. If they used a logout timer it would still punish those who are alt-F4ing from a fight, while adding some leeway for those that might get DC from the countless number of ways you could lose service.

My targets are now jumping from cliffs to suicide rather than the old alt f4……haha love it
lmao… hopefully next patch Anet will count suicide jumps while in combat as a kill then
Anyone else has this feeling that everyone that complains about disconnects are actually altf4 users ?

Also, why would alt-F4ers be asking for a logout timer which would still get them killed? Doesn’t make sense, right?
What I don’t understand is why A.net doesn’t use a logout timer for when you are in combat. It makes a lot more sense than auto-kill on alt-F4/DC.
Timer: If you alt-F4/DC/menu>logout while you are in combat your char stays in game for 10-20 seconds before being logged out from the world.
If you were being chased down by an enemy player and were trying to avoid certain death, the enemy will most certainly have your body and loot before the timer is up. If you were in the middle of a zerg attacking a gate and got DC, you have a chance of surviving and being able to log back in. Of course, there is also the chance that you just stand there while an enemy player targets you down. But at least the players that may get DC have a chance of survival.
Not to mention, when chasing down an enemy that you are about to kill, it is very anti-climactic to see them just “die” before you get your finishing hit in. I’d rather feel that I’m getting that kill than watching them fall down before my eyes. Just my 2 cents.
edit: The only real damage nerf from grenades should be vs siege. That’s it.
Actually, that sounds pretty cool if Engineers were oriented as an “anti-siege” class. They would definitely be more desirable in WvW. I don’t seen the reason for any sort of nerf at all. I would expect the engineers to get buffed if anything.
Alright, thanks guys that answers my question. +1 to all.
Hey guys,
A couple of my friends just picked up gw2, but unfortunately the server we’re on is showing as full (actually about 60% of servers showing as full for NA) and they can’t join us. I know I could just have everyone transfer to a server that isn’t full, but the few of us really like this server we’re on now.
So my question is how does Arena.net determine when a server population is full? Is it based on total accounts on that server? Is it based on active accounts during certain time slots? Is there a time where servers have open availability because there are less active players? I know our particular server doesn’t have a huge NA and EU time slot population, so would there be a better chance to try and join then?
Thanks.
Hey come on now guys, lets keep it clean and not be SoR losers.
I am the only one who got a good laugh out of that?
Why is IOJ always 3rd =(
Did we (IoJ) lose 2nd already? Score update, please!
