Anet broke my heart.
I have no more words to add.
(1) NA players: excellent ping on NA servers, workable ping on EU servers
(2) EU players: excellent ping on EU servers, workable ping on NA servers
(3) Asia/Oceanic players: tolerable ping on NA servers, terrible ping on EU servers
(4) Russia/etc players: tolerable ping on EU servers, terrible ping on NA servers
Players on (1) and (2) have the luxury of choosing between NA and EU, players on (3)(4) don’t have that luxury. If you merge the servers or place them in the same WvW match, they cannot play. Take this into consideration please.
Where are the servers located? Where is the NA and EU data centers?
IIRC Texus and Germany Frankfurt(?)

tl;dr: data centers are on different continents, latency is an issue with intra-continental connections, data center distinctions are here to stay.
The only thing we are asking is to be able to play against each other and not exactly merge the ladders. I’ll try to define it more clear: To create one big serverpool. NA players in NA would have their data center, EU players would have theirs. Only to be able to face each other and not erase data center from some place.
The latency between data centers aren’t that bad as you seem to be believing. Nobody could blame the lag or even feel the difference when playing intercontinental matches. Yet nobody has whined about the lag even when EU players are playing in NA servers or the opposite.
Please consider it again and put up a beta test for it. I would gladly test it out!
As I said above, where would the WvW maps be located? I play on a NA server; I can’t play on a EU servers because latency is unbearable, in NA it is tolerable. I imagine someone playing in the EU servers would have a similar issue with NA servers.
Those who transfer from NA to EU or viceversa are those who can play on both. Don’t confuse them with the majority who never transfered.
Lets say the latter is merged. 1 NA server and 2 EU servers are placed in 1 bracket. Where would the WvW map be placed? The NA data center or EU data center?
There are people who can play on the NA servers but have unplayable latency on the EU servers and viceversa. Those players will be screwed whenever a NA server and EU server share the same bracket.
Hmm, for defensive purposes it could be balanced, but what happens if you use it for offense? Like building corridors of walls (like trenches), or hemming Golems into a box, or blocking Balista weapon fire?
Balista weapon blocking would be especially bad, even if the wall could only take one hit. The Balista cooldown would allow you to advance without taking damage. Build, block, advance, repeat. Admittedly this (probably) won’t affect trebs catapults, or arrow carts, but you get the idea.
This is just off the top of my head, anyone else?
I think it takes more time to build a siege then a ballista shot. IIRC when you first put a blueprint down the structure has really low health so it would be really simple to put it out. And think about the supply cost, even if it costs only 20 supplies thats 2 peoples worth. You would quickly run out of supply for just blocking a ballista shot.
I like the idea but I see a possible problem with it. Someone posted that they placed a large number of rams in an area. If people decided to do this with blockades and backing them onto each other it could take an extremely long time to break down and would look ridiculous.
I think it should be much more easy to destroy then the normal siege weapons. And allies should have an option to destroy it too. Also the right cost and supply requirements would make it useful for some situations but costly to spam.
Creates a obstacle the size of Guardians Line of Warding. Blocks movement and line of sight. Can be attacked by enemies and allies.
It would be useful while sieging a tower/keep to block reinforcements. GW2 has so many movement, invulnerabilty, stealth options that 10~15 people can’t block 2~3 from slipping inside the sieged tower/keep. While downing 1 other 2 ~ 3 would run, stealth, blink, mist form away ignoring the attackers to slip inside.
If this barricade is placed they would at least need to damage it before going inside so the attackers have a chance to stop them.
I think implementing something like “Heart of the Mists” for WvW would be good.
Inside there would be Asura gates to each battlegrounds, merchants, banks etc.
(practice with siege weapons, spar with npc guards)
It would help guilds/groups orginize before going into WvW and help server communities form.
In the lobby you could open the WvW maps and then decide which battleground to queue up for.(Also you can go look at the karma/badge vendors without feeling guilty about it)
What do you guys think?(Should this be in the suggestion forum?)
Adding my support on this idea
Make it a wagon + dolyak. If the dolyak gets sniped a player can haul the wagon for less speed or escort a new dolyak to the wagon.
The wagon has a higher hp and is destructible if no one is pulling it(the damage goes to the person/dolyak moving it) or it will decay if left alone for too long.
I personally would like to man the wagon and have skills that will whip the dolyak to move faster or use buffs to make it last longer. Much more fun then just escorting
