Pyro,
Wanted to say thank you for your build, and the fact that you update it. It’s been a bad habit of mine to run a search for your posts to get some information to better myself as a Mesmer. Big time thank you.
Mugi, thank you for these videos. I have a long way to go, but when you and Yishi release these, it provides a measuring mark and a good instructional tool on what and what not, to do. Thank you.
Maybe I am a bad thief, (probably), but in sPVP, Mesmer’s were a difficult target for me to fight. I know there is more to spvp then 1v1 fights, but on the mesmer forum are two pvp videos of mesmer’s crushing backstab thieves with ease.
I made a mesmer because of this class giving me issues, and I enjoy playing it. There is so much about the mesmer that makes them passively strong. Whereas on my thief, I feel like if I make just one minor mistake, I typically end up eating the ground.
Play how you want, but this is not an alt friendly system.
And it should not be either, imho. WvW is an individual toon progressions system (other than overall WvW achievements). But hey, given all the whining from many here, I have no doubt that ANet will cave and cater to the minority, that’s right, the MINORITY, rather than the majority who simply accept the current WvW exp and rank system for what it is…per individual toon.
What he means to say is this:
“I have more time to play than you, and therefore I can do this silly grind on multiple toons *DANGIT MOM I”M TYPING A FORUM POST*, sorry but I don’t want you to be on my level, unless you’ve done the grind. I did it, and I am super cool, DANGIT MOM I SAID NACHOS, NACHOS!!!!!."
I feel like no one is understanding where OP is coming from. He doesn’t care about this Ele build. Hell, he states he likes it. His whole point is that moments after finding out about warrior nerfs, thief nerfs, etc, this community calmed down for all of 10 minutes before kittening about something else. And he is right. All of you laughing right now will be killed here sometime soon, quite suddenly by a class you’ve dismissed because of forum fodder. You will then be the same people whining about the ice bow build.
I really wish this thread wasn’t here though.
Thief evade too strong=nerf
Hammer too strong=nerf
engineer boon duration’s/adept skills too strong=nerf
necro burning too strong=nerf
mesmer phantasm=nerfAnd now on the back of the nerf’s appears ice bow ele that can level every single one of these builds in 3-4 seconds, while all your skills are disabled, chilled and your immobilised stacked and the ele is invulnerable to all incoming damage. Not to mention the newly appearing staff/hammer guardian that is impossible to move and files it nails while anyone of these builds goes red faced just trying to budge them. It won’t be long before ice-bow ele and staff guardian are hanging out and watching the karate kid like great friends do.
The solution was always there. There was always builds that made super short work of these ‘O.P builds.’
Again, the criers, the whingers, anyone who posted anything slightly harsh about unfairness have been listened to and the people who said, ‘give it a few months to settle’ haven’t been.
Just say’n
P.s I don’t play hammer, I think the ele build is awesome, so therefore it will get nerfed and guardian will be left alone because it will only be standing on mid as they have always done and always will.
As a single player, this frustrates me. Too many knee jerk reactions before solutions were even looked at.
Really? You just had to bring this to light. Now ANET will run over my ice bow build.
Good warrior uses his utilities as well . Joke of the year . Dolyak SIGNET
Healing SIGNET , SIGNET of rage .Nuff Said .
and the other 3 skills?
You’re arguing technicalities of a post that was not written to be absolute fact. Of course warriors use more than 3 keys. You know that, atse knows that. But do not, for one second, argue that the current Warrior is even remotely as difficult to play as the old D/D ele was, swapping between 4 attunements, using all of the skills in addition to utility skills.
I have a warrior. I had the oldschool OP D/D ele. My warrior accomplishes what my old d/d ele did, with less effort, more damage, and less stress. I know you do not want your easy mode nerfed silent, but its going to happen. Embrace it.
You need to more strictly define Point 3 – your list of examples is fulfilled by Cleansing ire and Greatsword.
Mmkay edited. Was a bit busy when I posted this thread. Got a build to post?
For that matter, anyone got a build to post?
GS M/S still seems like it comes close to filling those requirements – enough CC (not as much as M/S H of course), and not much AoE, but it’s still there.
Do you want to post the exact build so I can enter a queue with it and record the results?
Not particularly. I was simply trying to be helpful as far as your list of test cases went.
I have no idea who you are, nor how good you are, so I don’t see how you testing things can prove anything to me – perhaps you’re an amazing player and you make the class look OP when it’s not – perhaps you’re a really poor player and you make the class look UP when its not.
Even if I knew for a fact you were the well qualified for testing, generating a bit of anecdotal evidence isn’t going to help much either way. It doesn’t matter whose point you “prove” with this, conclusions drawn from it will be wrong due to improper testing. Anet has access to the statistics, they’ll hopefully use that information when they determine if any changes need to be done.
Evil, I don’t know you, but I respect you. The way you think and then transfer that thinking to a forum post is top notch. You are one of the few who makes an effort not to allow personal bias or feeling to stain the point you’re trying to make. It is a talent I do not have. Best of luck.

It is good advice. Instead of crying about it anymore, I decided to make one. SPVP is much more pleasing now.
Ah, yes. I too joined the brotherhood of ezmode. I figured I may as well abuse this extremely poor balancing on ANET’s part. SPVP has been so much more enjoyable.
ArenaNet,
I have never before posted in these forums. Is this information important? Not at all. I simply use it as a measure as to how unhappy I am with the progression of a game I invested so much hope (and money, silly me) into; Guild Wars 2.
You can no longer lean on the accolades you deserved for Guild Wars 1. Maybe an MMO of this scope is to much for your company to handle. I don’t know and I don’t care. After watching the 40ish minute preview of this Oct 15th balance patch, I couldn’t help but keep asking myself if the two hosts were familiar with their game on a basic playing level. I couldn’t help but wonder why you chose two individuals, who probably shouldn’t ever be put in front of a camera to promote anything involving your game, in front of the camera to promote your game. If your goal was to entice us with information, all you really made me feel was unease with the seeming incompetence of your staff.
Reading through your large balance patch notes, I couldn’t help but come to the conclusion that you, as a company, really have no idea what you’re doing when it comes to balancing your game. Shame on you for that. I know balance isn’t easy, nor is it ever really “balanced”. However, there are blatantly apparent imbalances that many in this community have pointed out, even going so far as to give suggestions on how to fix it, that have been ignored. I know I may be coming off as some keyboard warrior, who fancies himself a game developer with infinite knowledge on balance. I’m not. Blatant is blatant. Take that for what you will.
I hyped this game. I brought a fair amount of players with me to this game. I’ve watched the majority of them leave. I myself have contemplated it. It’s difficult, because there are so very many positive parts of this game that I love. But I love PvP above all else, and I always have. To that end, I measure my time here alongside release dates of new upcoming MMO’s that I’m excited to try.
If I may in parting pass along one piece of advice; Abandon PvP. Just let it go. Let the E-Sport fantasy go. What this game has is top notch PvE Experiences, and a great combat system. It is this PvE experience that I would bet drives most of your gem sales. Keep the game afloat and cater to the crowd you haven’t let down, because you dropped the ball and failed to pick it back up where PvP is concerned. Thanks for reading.
