If no one can provide me with a solution, could you at least show me an alternative way to repair my Gw2.dat file? I saw some posts but I don’t have the time to download 19GB again…

Crash when closing client - game not working

My Guild Wars 2 has stopped working completely.

Once I logged out as usual, and tried to close the client. All I got was almost all of my desktop “whited-out”, a message that GW2 is not responding, so I clicked “close” and after that Windows tried to close the process, but nothing happened. I don’t even know how that’s possible. I tried it myself – clicked on Gw2.exe, clicked End Process and it was still there. Also, when I click “Play”, “Install GW2” or “Uninstall GW2”, so any button on the client, it stays clicked and won’t budge. If I click anything after that it does the above too.

Anyway, after that, I tried running the game again and naturally got the message that GW2 can’t run because there’s another copy running. And something about not being able to access Local.dat which I can’t remember or replicate because of what’s going on.

I tried to uninstall the game and install it again, and I couldn’t, same problem as above (button stays clicked, white-out, Gw2.exe process becomes omnipresent in the system). I tried deleting the game folder and registry entries manually, THEN reinstalling the game and I also couldn’t. I followed the online instructions for repairing the client and it looked as if it were going to work (I left my PC on overnight to download all 229 000 files), but still the problem persists.

Also tried all the standard tricks like turning off AV, “Run as administrator” etc., to no avail.

Please help, I have invested a lot of my scarce free time into this game and I don’t want to give up just yet.

PC:
Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E530 3259AJG
Intel i5 (3210M) 2.5GHz
nVidia GeForce GT230M 2GB
2GB RAM
Windows 7 (32-bit), updated, fresh install, latest drivers etc.

This is going to sound off the charts stupid, but I don’t know if I understand the bleed cap correctly.

What you’re saying is that after 25 stacks of Bleed are on a foe, all subsequent bleeds are wasted? And each bleed you apply is basically for nothing because bleeds stack intensity not duration? So you’re going for a short powerful bleed after short powerful bleed?

EDIT read previous posts again, I get it now

While I’m a die-hard Well fan I’ll definitely give this a whirl. Thanks!

Rifle PvE build - am I doing this right?

Oops I forgot to add that even though it’s my alt it’s L80 and Exotic’d up.

I use Elixir H for heals because to me it seems the most effective heal (and it recharges faster), but I’ll give healing turret a try, thanks.

Any more tips welcome. I somehow think I should’ve went full knight and ignored crit dmg (even though I now have +25 or so) for more toughness/precision.

What Temple Armor set is best for Necromancer

I mixed up Lyssa and Grenth to get as most precision toughness and condition damage as I could. Since there is no light chest piece with those stats I just went “screw it” and got the power/toughness/vit set. Sacrificed one ring for full precision cond damage.

Temple armor is good but I just HATE how kittening generic it looks. It’s L80 Exotic max armor and it looks like it’s some l40 crafted piece of junk!!!

For runes, I ground up some TA tokens and got Runes of the Nightmare, good stuff.

I was thrilled to see some healing/support traits in Blood Magic. So I went with “Heal when you leave DS” and “LT heals nearby allies”. The healing is under 1k and it never helped anyone in any dungeon I was in.

So I turned to self-survival using Well health siphon and Siphoning 50% more effective boost. Good, and I’m very sustainable now, but the dagger siphon is PATHETIC in comparison and I use daggers a lot in PvP. Hardly noticeable health gain. As is regen, like some1 already said I can’t even tell if it’s on or not.

Yep,

I think most necros want to see the siphoning skills and traits get some kind of love.

pretty much sums it up.

Rifle PvE build - am I doing this right?

So lemme lay this out for you.

Engie is my alt. I started out with turrets and for leveling they were fun, but I don’t really like them as much as say minions on a Necro (my main). So I went with a rifle build.

First off lemme say I’m almost ADDICTED to balancing things and this may be part of my “problem”.

The way I’m traited right now is:
30 Firearms, I have the 50% Vuln on crit, 20% recharge faster and 10% more damage traits.
10 Inventions for some extra toughness and 5% to power trait for some extra power.
30 Alchemy for Elixir recharges, HGH, and a survival trait (mostly drink Elixir S@25% health or Formula 409 for support).

Gear is power/prec/crit dmg rifle, Armor everything power/tough/vit except chest+legs which are power/prec/crit dmg. Amulets power/toughness/crit dmg.

What I have in utils is Goggles, Elixir S (for fury) and Battle Roar (extra fury) or Elixir R (extra survival).

Why am I boring you with this? Because in my head it makes sense but out there playing I’m not so sure. I’d like to deal a decent amount of damage (I’m alright but it’s kind of underwhelming) without being a total squishy (I’m used to playing a defense necro so maybe I’m fine here and I’m just not that used to dodging etc.). I’m particularly skeptical about running a build based on boons (fury) because it seems I depend too much on them.

Well, enough crap, any tips? Did I go terribly wrong somewhere?

Necromancer Survivability?

I have little experience with WvW and sPvP, but in PvE, using 4 Wells, the trait effects “Siphoning health is 50% more effective” and “Wells siphon health each time they pulse” and the passive trait abilities for health siphoning I find myself dying very rarely.

So everything I hit gives me health. For example, the famous Magg defense part of path 2 in Citadel of Flame explorable – I never die there while others just keep dropping, and given that I deal some hits using wells I’m kind of center of attention most of the time.

I used to play MM all the time and the 40 Toughness per minion is cool too. In WvW I’d use all minions and Dagger+(something) – folks start attacking the Flesh Golem more often than not and before they figure out what’s what I’m already gone and they’re dead.

I think every class is equally survivable but the means of survival are different – that said, I also think the Necro’s mechanics are WAY different. More stun breakers? Could be (I’ve become very spoiled by them using my Engie) but at the end of the day I don’t even feel the need for it.

Why did you roll a Charr?

I HATE cats. That’s out of the way. No kitty cat cute fluffy BS for me

Charr are fighters, survivors, inventors. It fits my inner “warrior”. They know what’s out to get them and they know how to counter it, be it by means of force, machinery or deception. The quotes too… “We rip each day from life’s teeth”. Effin’ genius.

Also I think they are the most down to earth, beer and meat&potatoes race. I love their humor and attitude. I can’t stand the kitteny Norn and the condescending Asura… Humans are just plain lame at times – anyone who’s had to put up with Lord Faren would probably agree. Sylvari… they appeal to my philosophical side but they take s**t too seriously sometimes.

While Charr Engie is my alt I find myself playing the storyline with a lot more enthusiasm than that of my Sylvari Necro. I just love the concept of Charr, ’nuff said.

Since I run a build that enables me to go solo with minions or Wells for party play without reassigning traits and thus I don’t have any TPs in Curses, I’ve come across a great way to ensure your poor target or targets get all the grief of the wells is using the DS skill Dark Path. You hit the target, Chilling them and any adjacent suckers (ensuring they stay chilled for a little while), optionally hit Chillblains for more chill or Grasping Dead for more cripple, then let ‘em have it. This makes it hard for the enemy to move and thus dodge wells. Haven’t tried it in WvW though.

Wells rule, yeah.

I play minions a lot alone, but I rarely take them with a party. Then it’s wells for me. I absolutely LOVE wells. Have to check out full cond build etc. but for soloing they’re fine, I use them as cannon fodder, not my main source of damage.

And btw, I think the Minions do look butt ugly compared to GW1.

I absolutely LOVE the Panscopic Monocle. But as I started out, I didn’t know there are very little if any items with it’s appearance so naturally when I got a better headpiece I threw it away since it’s starter armor.

Is there an item with the same or even similar appearance?

A suggestion on turrets

in Engineer

Posted by: JackassTheX.6351

JackassTheX.6351

I TOTALLY second this. Not really a game that can be compared, but in Team Fortress 2, building a sentry (turret) takes quite a lot of time, and moving it and rebuilding it takes very little of that time.

I think that for destruction, standard cooldown is in place. For picking up, not even close. I didn’t build my turret so I’ll have to wait 45 seconds to build it again when I picked it up fully intact.

A good idea would be to increase recharge time given the health of the turret, and the turret would be slightly repaired. For example, you pick up a fully healed turret, it takes, dunno, 15 secs to recharge, put it down. You pick up a turret that’s almost out, it takes 30+secs to recharge, and it has something around half health (I think full repair would be OP).

What keeps drawing you back to the engineer? What pushes you away?

I would be very interested in seeing someone kite efficiently with point to click.

I use both clicking (for utils and elite) and numbers (wep skills to healing) to activate skills while running around like a maniac. Don’t see any flaw with that. The only benefit I see in point to click is accessing weirdly placed NPCs I have no idea how to get to.

Accessing POIs and Vistas in WvW without owning the keep

I think there should be a “WvW Explorer Tonic” that you could buy that would turn you into a skill free “NPC” that is unable to be attacked or attack himself. Or some other thing that would indeed make you completely useless though invulnerable/untargetable so you can explore WvW in peace.

I agree that exploration isn’t mostly challenging, at least in the “have to kill X mobs” way. Sure some PoIs are heavily fortified camps but you can just run in and get it. I don’t understand why WvW should be challenging to explore – to play, yes. To explore – no. Orr is hard and annoying to explore because of DEs making a lot of Wps contested and because there is a lot of mobs, but WvW is just ridiculous.

Skill preview!

JackassTheX.6351

When I was level 30 with my Sylvari necro, I started saving my Skill points for the highest tier Elite skills.

When the point came to finally buy either Lich Form or Summon Druid Spirit, I was really in a pickle. I got the Druid Spirit since it made sense because I was mainly playing minions, but Lich Form was quite cool too when I got it and started playing cond/wells. I imagined I would be really disappointed with Lich Form given my playing style, but it seemed very appealing too. In other words, I wanted some kind of “try before buy”.

So I came up with the idea of a system that would enable you to preview skills so you make sure you don’t throw away your hard earned skill points.

  • You could right click the skill and select “Try”, similar to gear preview.
  • There could be a small fee – it could cost 1 skill point, or some money for example.
  • The skill would have a limited amount of uses and a limited amount of time. There would be an effect saying “<Skill Name> Preview”, and hovering over it you would see “You can use <Skill Name> X more times, for Y more minutes”. This is to prevent the exploitation of the skill. After the skill is done, it’s done, you cannot try it again.
  • You could not use this skill in instances or Dungeons. Again, anti-exploitation.
  • The time/usage limit would vary depending on the cost of the skill and it’s tier.

To be honest though, I think Skill points aren’t all that hard to get, but sometimes I really ponder whether to get a 10SP skill that I won’t even use. I’m better off saving them for Eldrich Scrolls and whatnot. I still think it’s a good idea and I just wanted to share it.

I was thinking among the lines of the OP, but then I went into WvW, and seriously, with a good group, I got almost all the kills (43/50) in ONE NIGHT. I don’t know if being AoE helps, but all we did was take the southeastern part of Gandara’s map and took Stonemist keep – that battle alone got me 20+ kills. If you’re on a server that doesn’t do a lot of WvW it’s a bummer, but try at different parts of the day if you can and see.

One more thing – it’s a MONTHLY achievement. If you noticed that there is a WvW part after you did all the other three and you still have like 5 days to go, IMO you should try and expand your time in doing the achievement. If you kill 1 player every day of the month, that’s 30/50, if you kill two it’s 60, if you kill three it’s 90. If you kill 5 per day, you just need 10 days. I doubt you could even get only one kill in an assault or defense if you wanted to.
My point is, you have one month to do it, and if you whine on the 25th about not being able to get your monthly because of WvW, it’s your problem. Personally I think the Survivor part is hard as hell (mostly because logging out resets the progress AFAIK).

Please increase fear duration for Necromancers

JackassTheX.6351

I totally agree that Fear should be increased to at least 2 seconds, and at least on some skills. One second of Fear is just one evasion move away, really. But, it makes the Death Shroud 3rd skill, the Mark mentioned by the OP, the downed 3rd skill almost useless. Yes, there is a trait that extends Fear duration but even increased by 50% Fear is still quite weak. Compared to say, some mobs in Twilight Arbor who fear you halfway across the room.
