Like I said before in a different thread, if they implements this megaserver thing in WvW, this game mode will lose lot of its loyal players (few that are left anyway). WvW is already in a dire state atm with the introduction of s**t BL/autoupgrades/added PvE stuffs. Now if the rumor is true then it will definitely be the final nail in the coffin.

Dear Anet guys:
WHY? I don’t think it be good idea at all for you to do the alliance thing in WvW you are destroying it. IF you do to that you will lose a lot of ppl. You are heart less when it comes to WvW already but you just going to kill everything! Sigh but I know you don’t care so GG on the destroying it. You are not making this game fun anymore. STOP IT. Listen you your loyal WvW groups. Destroying the communities how dare you. You made this game and now you destroy it. Yes we complain but just think about how much more hate you will get bc of this. I love my server and I don’t want to be like the edge of the mist and be with anyone. PLease stop it!

IDEA: World Community Video Challenge

in Community Creations

The Lethe.2953

With HoT looking on the distant horizon there is still time for players, guilds, and worlds to prepare… for an influx of new and returning players in search of a home. Where will they go? Why will they go there? Do they know what they are getting into?

In an effort to help new players get an idea for a world before they decide to move there I propose a video challenge to entice new players. (Let’s face it, you wouldn’t want to commit to moving to a new state/city/country without at least checking out first right?)

This challenge isn’t only for new players but for the World’s own communities. Building a video that represents your world is a big deal and often will draw people together. (It worked wonders for my world)

TL:DR – I propose:
ANet host a challenge to any interested player to create a video that would represent their world for new HoT players.

Suggested Rules:
-1 Submission per player
-Unlimited submissions per world represented
-Videos must be no longer than 4 minutes
-No profanity
-No copyright issues (Music, art, speeches, etc)
-Videos should be judged on:
1. Representation of the entire World community
2. Showmanship
3. Artistic design
4. Bonus points for inclusion of as many guilds from the world as possible

Rewards:
Top video gets precursor
Top video from each world gets 400 gems

I would really love to see this happen. Can we get a red post to pass this along to the rest of the community team? Plz Plz plz!!!

I am definitely not a fan of alliances. I like seeing common faces, whether they are in my guild or not. I also like seeing common enemies and that helps with rivalries.

Also, who cares if we have 24 evenly balanced servers? Right now it works well. If you want blobs, go higher tier. If you want smaller groups, go lower tier. It works for whatever you want.

Side note, the devs that have been adopted onto servers should really be looking at their servers internal discussions on this subject. I know TC has a thriving thread about this and I’m sure most other servers do as well. Heck the TC/FA/MAG match up thread is even talking about it.

BG is doing the same thing, having its own internal brainstorming, the purpose of which was supposed to be to weed out all of our bad or unworkable ideas and narrow it down to things we think might actually work, then at some point post those ideas here or hand them to Anet in some fashion. It’s part of the reason why you see so many BG posts in this Thread, a lot of us have had this problem on our minds already this week.

Scrap the bloodlust and make all kills (not just stomps) count for points.

This makes prime-time quality more or less equal to off-hours quantity.
Yes, servers with off-hours populations will continue to have a leg up (and they really should, it’s not fair to punish them for wanting to play); but it won’t be the only deciding factor anymore.

This is separate from the issue of Population Imbalance, but I AGREE, the idea that holding Bloodlust determines whether or not you get points from Kills just doesn’t make sense! I mean, you can keep Bloodlust in the game, with the same small stat buffs it has now, and maybe you could even keep it tied to Stomp Points (make all Stomps worth 1 EXTRA point when you hold Bloodlust), but really, ALL KILLS should count for 1 point, independent of Bloodlust.

First note****
Thank you to the kind Dev for having the guts to throw out an idea for the community to poke holes in. We understand that it’s just an idea for discussion and not the current plan of action. Beware of trolls but remember we REALLY do love and appreciate THIS KIND of discussion.
*****End note****

While I liked what the red post has to say about Alliances… I do have some serious concerns that would need addressed.

Population imbalance by timezone:
Setting alliances against eachother that have max of say 5,000 players doesn’t solve timezone imbalances.

Lets say one alliance is very NA heavy, the other is of moderate NA population but also has a FAR larger SEA, OCX and EU population. The very NA heavy alliance could still be matched vs them but be TOTALLY blown out of the water just because of the TIMEZONE POPULATION!

New players/guildless players:
Please explain how new players and guildless players are supposed to:
A) Try WvW for the first time (not EOTM)
B) How do you join an Alliance?
—-Is it open invite like worlds are?
—-Or is it restricted like GW1 Alliances (because that comes with many new issues)
C) How do you change alliances?
D) What is the difference between Alliances and the current world system if its open invite?

From what I read an Alliance is just like a world, but it doesn’t count PvE only players against the player cap. If that is the case why not just alter the current World Population Cap to be based on WvW population?

Sorry if all that I have to say has been covered but I don’t have time this morning to read 12 pages.

It’s the reason why people stack on tier 1 servers, it’s simply the easiest way to get rewarded.

Focus on better reward system for the people who do a lot of work with less then 5 or 10 man groups, add some more objectives and I have a feeling the population will actually spread out a little better while making more servers be more competitive.

Since people (and a lot of people do) transfer servers all of the time especially during the tournament, I would say the majority of people could care less about server identity they want to be somewhere where they can win.

So holding onto the server identity complaint is from the minority, and shouldn’t be an issue.

it’s derailing any hopes of something to change anytime this year or the next.

take the bottom 6 servers out(calculated from last 6 months performance), give players a month to switch, THEN start working on these other convoluted ideas.

this is just getting waaaaay overcomplicated.

and I also propose all Anvil Rock, Borlis Pass and Ehmry Bay peeps to find a way to land on the same side

So the people that did stick with their servers, instead of paying to win by transferring, should be the ones to lose their servers? That doesn’t make a lot of sense.

The people who are complaining that their server is constantly outmanned, has no will to fight, or that they simply don’t/can’t field enough people to compete are precisely the ones who should see their servers merged. There’s absolutely no logical reason to destroy only the servers where people are generally happy with the current WvW balance, whether it’s with a forced dismantling or merger, or whether it’s with some sort of passive means, such as punishing servers with a healthy WvW population by artificially inflating the ques there through some sort of new “Lower WvW Cap”.

I mean, you started this thread about how your server needs help with population &/or Outmanned issues, to such a degree that your server (which is in 2nd to last place, currently) can’t even compete consistently in Tiers 7 or 8; you can’t really believe that there’s no problem at all with Anvil Rock, and that this is somehow EVERYONE ELSE’S SERVERS FAULT, and therefore they need to change, not AR… can you? Because that really seems to be what you’ve been pushing this whole time: “Please Anet, bring the map caps down only the number of players that my NEXT-TO-LAST-PLACE SERVER can field, it’s the only way to save WvW!” I mean, it just doesn’t make sense! I have to ask here, was this whole thread originally based on a troll post? If so… you got us, man! Good one.

With alliances, what about players with no guilds but actively participate in their server’s WvW efforts? New to WvW and have no direction on which alliance to pick?

Alliances may sound nice in theory, but I think it’ll only put up barriers to people getting into WvW, as it may forcefully separate friends due to alliance population limits. As an example, if this were to be implemented today, the majority of Blackgate would choose to move as one. Would an alliance fit that many people? or would the population cap be a lot lower and force people who’ve played together for 2 years give or take (majority of Blackgate’s guilds) to split up?

I see all these people from T2 and lower trying to encourage the lower map cap idea.

Doing this will destroy competitive WvW and turn every map into karma trains.

You guys are complaining you are VASTLY outnumbered by Tier 1. I’d hazard to say that Tier 1 has probably 80% of the weekly WvW logins of the NA servers, if not more.

You are all advocating something that helps the MINORITY (something that you are admitting to being) while destroying the majority of WvW players experiences.

There is also this idea of server pride being dead. The guilds that have held down, organized and build their servers are the ones with server pride. The current tier 1 servers are the last standing servers of over two years of fighting.

BG, JQ, TC, SOR, SOS, MAG, FA, SBI, IOJ, Kaineg, DB, HOD all have flirted with tier 1 and been in tier 2 at one point. You think that the people left on BG/JQ/TC aren’t immensely proud of the fact theirs have survived when so many others have fallen due to lack of leadership, poor leadership or just general game turn over?

These higher populated servers are responsible for keeping WvW going for many many players through the drought of so little feedback from ANET, and as a reward you are advocating destroying their WvW experience.

These servers are successful because they have established an environment attractive to WvW guilds, be they PPT, GVG, havok roaming or any mix.

So what is a good solution that doesn’t punish servers that have been successful at retaining and growing their WvW population?

Several steps:

Step 1:

Merge the bottom 9 servers with the next 9 as ranked by glicko WvW rating. Do it in reverse, so Eradon Terrace gets merged with Yaks bend (and so forth). And merge the server names as well to keep the pride in where everyone came from. Server names would be:

Yak’s Terrace, Dragon Rock, Crystal Crossing, Stormbluff Furnace, Devona’s Kaineng, Isle of Emery, Northern Rall, Henge of Darkhaven, and Borlis Madness. (examples)

Step 2: Open up free transfers to the new 9 bottom servers. Half or reduce by 75% transfer costs to tier 2 servers (SOS, MAG and FA). Lock or keep BG JQ TC server transfers the same price. You could also just have free transfers if your account has reached a certain number of WvW ranks. Say 1,000. That way PvEers aren’t targeted for moving, but WvW players. (Otherwise large PvE guilds on Tier 1 servers would move, freeing up more room on them for WvW guilds).

Step 3: All guild influence and upgrades get moved. (This may have been addressed in last patch, but I’m not super familiar with it) In short make it truly no cost to move servers in regards to your guild.

Step 4: Separate WvW population from server population and make competing in a lower WvW populated server MORE rewarding than higher. Higher magic find, % inc to gold per kill buff, double chests, something.

Step 5: Provide an incentive to move to the bottom nine servers from the top 3. 400 gems one time, 1k gold, an exclusive Team Player badge or something. There would have to be a way to differentiate between a PvE player and a WvWer.

Step 6: Bring back the much higher glicko random number generator that caused matchups to be more varied. Part of why everyone got so stacked is because they wanted to fight different opponents, make it so they have that option, without having to transfer.

Step 7: Reset glicko! This is the most important. It will create an environment that will encourage guilds to go out and seek a new server to bring to the top of the ranking, rather than maintain their hard won rating.

I would also suggest doing the same to EU servers, perhaps the bottom six with the next six.

Then take the money you’ve saved with servers and hire a few WvW GMs that can monitor cheating, hacking and take disciplinary action against them.

You do these things, even most of these things, and WvW will become a fun place to compete in again for all servers.

I used to play in Bronze League and let me say this. It is a fricken ghost town. Nobody gets on TS, only EB and maybe Home BL have a decent force on it if it is the weekend. When I say decent, I mean 50 people between the 2 maps. This was 7 months ago, too. I took a visit back to bronze on my Alt account, It it honestly PvD right now. Bronze League is a ghost town, I swore I saw a multiple dust balls rolling through.

To those saying that all of the T1 servers need to be broken up, you messed up. To those that are saying all of the maps need a population cap, you messed up. Why are you trying to limit other’s fun for your benefit? I honestly enjoy the T1 scene because I can hop in anytime and get fights, anytime I want.

We have the different tiers because maybe a 24/7 war zone is not your cup of tea, then fine but don’t destroy other’s cup of tea as well. I am opposed to the idea of breaking up the T1 servers because of offtime numbers, is silly. Maybe if you had the will to win, you would be up to 3 am taking towers, and etc.

Please don’t do the stupid idea of breaking up all of the T1 servers or population caps. Why not try to rally your PvE population or even PvX population? BG does not have 24/7 map q, JQ does not have 24/7 map q, and TC does not have 24/7 map q.

Before you destroy multiple servers, why not trying to organize your server? Why not ask for a server chat? Why not get people on TS? Why not learn from some of the T1 servers about organization? Why “fix” something that is not broken for T1, population? Why try to fix something that is not broken for T1 and some T2 servers? Why don’t you try to fix population from T2 down, so the already pretty balanced population servers can have more fights with one another and future T1 server size maps as well?

Now some people go to lower tier servers want to say because they don’t like zergs all days. They want to have their roaming and if they’re happy – keep them there way. You’re going to destroy 3 or more server communities, and make quite a couple people angry.

Let me conclude on this. I play this game because I like the community I’m in now. I was a community leader/organizer and I was part of “the best community ever, ERP style”. I finally found a server which I can call home (in game of course) and I want it to keep that way.

Sheer numbers won’t solve your problem. If people don’t like the community they’re on they’ll transfer (create imbalance which defeats your solution) or just sheer quit the game (also defeats your purpose and anet’s purpose). What your suggesting is sheerly wrong. If I find myself not on BG and it was the BG I knew yesterday (i.e. you broke up all of T1 and distributed them up between all of the servers), I would probably quit the game. I know I wouldn’t be the only one.

That leaves the Devs with no (good) solution to the non-T1 servers. Well, server merger is a risky idea, breaking up T1 is a bad idea (mass quit or new T1 on 3 new servers), or I don’t know. This is a non-T1 problem which needs to be solved by people who have more insight without destroying T1 or creating a population cap. My advice is think outside of the box.

Having played in Darkhaven and ET before, I can tell you those servers are not organised at all. They have pugmanders that aren’t in TS karma training and avoiding fights unless they outnumber their opponent because there’s no coordination. There’s little to no use of their public TS even though there may be 50 people on the map (which happened when I was in ET, huge number of people on the maps, total 6 people in the entire TS, no tag up). It’s that lack of organisation that hurts the lower tiers. The lack of team work and team spirit and making an effort to communicate with your teammates.

In T1, there’s very little of ‘wiping pug zergs with guild groups’. Why? It’s not cause the guilds are bad. It’s simply due to the fact that when you have an entire 40-60 man zerg in TS with the pugmander, it doesn’t matter that it’s not a guild group because it’s still going to move like one. In DH, there was a ‘zerg busting’ guild that I followed around for a bit just to observe. That guild could’ve been taken out by havoc squads in T1 and T2 but were killing groups 3 times their size. There’s a simple difference in organisation between the lower tiers and the higher tiers that you simply can’t cross in a short amount of time and is the difference between Gold and Silver league servers.

And that’s absolutely fine, their score can reflect that there is no organization. Right now though, it doesn’t. It reflects more about who brings more players to the table and has better 24/7 coverage. With the current system in place we wouldn’t even be able to tell how competitive we are to a kitten server since we’ll never get a chance to fight them, let alone on a level playing field. Fact is, unless we get numbers to totally obliterate ever server in tier, we don’t have the ability to move much in the ranks at all. When we fight BP, we are on fairly even numbers/coverage game. Its a good match-up overall. We know this as even on reset, we don’t get queued, like almost never.

My point is that even if you give those servers the same population and coverage as BG for example, they will still get roflstomped and call BG stacked. Fact is, most of BG’s guilds have been playing together (or against each other) for close to 2 years now and the teamwork and communication that has risen out of that experience of playing together for that length of time have given us a real edge in organisation, something which pure population can’t overcome without a similar level of organisation

Glicko issues are a whole different thing altogether and I think the old 1 up 1 down system worked better, even with constant roflstomp matchups (we get fairly balanced matchups with the current system but it’s too slow in responding to server population fluctuations).

This is sad. Most posts are some made up complaint about how T1 servers should be the ones modified rather than the obvious where lower tier servers are the problem.

All tier 1 servers have a healthy WvW population, all the servers cap their maps, make heavy use of TS, have great organization, play constantly and have map blobs. All of these can be reduced to what people really want : an active server population.

I used to play in Ehmry Bay, moved over to blackgate. The reason I moved was the lack of a population in Ebay, WvW was a ghost town except for a few guilds who would do their private raids in their private TS and not invite people. This is different in Blackgate, guilds do run by themselves privately but they communicate between each other, there usually is a large guild running the “map tag” where any PUG can join in TS and listen. I dont even care about the rewards as I play 3 times a week with my guild JUST FOR FUN something that was impossible in Ebay.

And here is the reality anyone in the lower tier servers SHOULD be forced into a t2 or t3 server to “balance” the population. You want more Blackgates and Jade Quarries (the two t1 servers that have survived this long), you want more servers to get bummped up like TC did. Most people are proposing the inverse where you want to destroy T1 through harsher caps when what you want is to be a T1 server? You could probably shoot SoS into kitten compete with JQ/BG/TC right now just by moving a couple of guilds from the lower tiers into it.

I understand any lower tier server players having pride and not wanting to move, but if your complaint is that population is an issue and you dont want to move to a server with better population? thats all on you guys not the other servers…

Speaking for myself and a lot of the server players i know, we play for good fights, not to be on the biggest populated/organized WvW servers. We have great organization communication and we know, when we go up against numbers, we have to up our game. So no, we don’t want to be on blackgate. I wouldn’t suggest changing Blackgate anymore than changing NSP. We don’t have a problem being silver or bronze or gold for that matter. We simple want good fair fights, not the Roflstomps we get on either side. We want WvW to reflect good play tactics, not the number of bodies on the field. I’d love to see a WvW that pit us against Blackgate on equal footing, but that’s not going to happen in this current system.

Having played in Darkhaven and ET before, I can tell you those servers are not organised at all. To start with, I play in Blackgate and I transferred there before the end of free transfer, so my view is heavily biased towards how we in BG WvW. Also thanks to the dev guy who spends time looking through these posts, bad idea though

TLDR:
Help servers get organized and improve their WvW. Maybe add a feature to easily rally their existing population.

Server mergers, battle groups/guild(or sever?) alliances, population caps are listed bad to worst for me. Those should be used as last resort, or better yet scrapped altogether.

I have not read ALL of the posts, but browsing through, there’s a lot of negative ideas floating around. By negative, I mean destroying or at the very least damaging what’s already there like T1 servers, and the current WvW model.

So instead, why not try to improve the other servers first?

Looking at the top servers, at least in NA, most people usually says they are over-stacked, high population and whatever. But how did they get stacked with WvW players? Guild transfers in some way, but it is still because the people in those servers organized their WvW population and recruited from PVE.

Blackgate is really fortunate to have had an organized WvW community early in the game. Right now, it’s quite hard to rally your server due to megaservers. Gone are the days of people shouting in chat to get more people in WvW.

Maybe add a sort of chatbox in the WvW window for servers to view, or some feature to help organize.

Regarding population, none of us have any right to comment about it since WE HAVE NO DATA. Though even the low population servers can probably queue WvW if they want to since each WvW map can only hold a hundred players per server.

But since server mergers have been mentioned by the dev, they probably have some idea of actual deficit in players. If you want to merge servers, looking at the huge timezone gaps and try to balance it there is how. Sorry but it’s hard to separate general WvW population and timezone coverage unless you plan to make WvW regional, in which case, that’s boring as hell and we’ll all just play during NA :/

As to how to keep world pride, merging with previous enemies,, WvW is supposed to be competitive, and the thought of fighting other servers in other tiers should help re-build world pride and the enemy of my enemy thinking should apply

Sorry, battlegroups whatever doesn’t convince me that it’s a good idea. That will also counter against world pride and whatnot, that the first question regarding mergers aim to resolve.

Population caps are simply dumb. Just no.

Yep congrats BG. Still a long way to go for seasons. SOR is not out of with back to back 2nd place finishes aka 6 points.

That said it was a weird turn of events. We had queues on all 4 maps (shortest being a couple minutes at most) throughout last weekend late into Sunday night. Come early Monday morning (long before BG’s new guild had been scheduled to log for early EU time) SOR couldn’t even field one map, haha. It was almost as if everyone finished off their achievements at once and quit WvW for the week which allowed BG to take full advantage and carried the momentum onward.

Guess this is their definition of roaming the 2nd pic has more but they disappeared when taking it. I’m tired of Guilds claiming to roam when in fact I’ve never seen them by themselves to “Stand on Their two legs”.

Don’t preach roaming if in fact you don’t solo roam or you roam with 5 or more.

Trying to preach how to roam but sitting on a wall behind the legendary guards yourself. How typical….

Blackgate has a lot of solo roamers, if our enemies get pushed back then there really isn’t anything to go out hunting for which results in our roamers gathering up in 1 spot. They’re hoping that numbers gather and that you’ll push out… Looking at the screenshot, you had numbers but yah…

I’m sorry this is the only pic or knowledge of one of your guild members being alone until in the end I got 1v3.

You should probably check the tag again. If you’re looking for one on one’s, the windmill is a great place. Open world pvp is well, open world pvp. Might I suggest to you a more mobile class? You seem to end up on the ground quite a bit.

I guess I stand corrected so I’ve never seen an OPP guy by himself. I’m just stating the facts the roaming is 1vW or at most 5vW after that your just looking for easy kills among the roamers. Even if its just 3 of yall plus pugs you always have to count them.

All I can say is keep trying bud. Some day you’ll figure it out.

My whole point is that you guys Gank people not roam your not looking for fights your looking to Gank people similar to how people in WOW did. I’m not claiming I don’t do it but to call your selves a roaming Guild is in fact a lie. My Guild doesn’t claim they don’t zerg, roam, defend, blah blah the guild claimes that they are roaming Guild I’m suggesting other wise. Not once did I say I’m looking for 1v1s. I guess I will keep trying and looking for “players that stand out” among the crowed.

You seem to be basing your opinion off a few oPP members that were spawn camping yesterday. From what I was told the map was dead so they were where the only action on the map was.

You do realize that there are maybe 12 to 15 active oPP members spread across all the time zones? Do we have members that mostly roam solo? Sure we do, does that mean they are running the oPP tag at the time? Not always, a tremendous amount of heat comes with running this tag so it isn’t always an option when solo. Have you ever had a whole map zerg turn and chase just you half way across the map?

As to our group size, yeah, we usually run in groups of 2 or 3, sometimes up to 5 and on the rare wild night we might have close to 8 people running on one map! We actually enjoy each others company, like running with each other and have had many great small scale roaming fights with other groups that are like minded. As to your comment about pugs or the green dot adds, it’s open world, we have no control over them.

TSF, ahh, I remember this tag now. Saw a few of you when me and 3 other oPP were messing around TC BL north camp two days ago. Had a good time by the way.

I’m assuming you are the necro in Jado’s first video at the top. lol.
