I just hope the rest of the story don’t feel as rushed.
I’m sorry to say, don’t hold your breath.
Will we be able to get a option to hide the personal story quest from the UI for those of us who don’t want to do it or have completed it on other characters?
I know there are many other more serious issues to deal with and this is low on the to-do list – if it events exists.
Anyone else just hate trahearne (…)
So much that if there was a options ingame to join Zhaitan I’d do it in a heartbeat just to have the opportunity to mangle Trahearne to death.
Good idea commander, sir.
I don’t think we will ever see any fixes for the Trahear… I mean the personal story, other then pure bug fixes. And even those seems to be vary far down on the ArenaNet to-do list.
Which is a shame. The story up to around level 50 is good, even great in some areas, it has some variations in it but then its like they gave up. I would like very much to hear how the discussion went at the ANet office. I mean, the level of complains about the personal story has been overwhelming, the difference between the story before level 50 and after is so obvious that its like two different developers was involved in the process. So there must have been a critical breaking point in the development at some point where they simple said out loud, “lets rush this from now on just to get it done”, or similar. “Lets throw in a million Risens so it at least attract some of the kids who like to blow stuff up.”
I have one more story to complete so I can get one of each, I have to do the Order of Whispers version left. But as soon as I get their emblem on the character screen, I’m done. No more, never again.
Like I wrote on Twitter a while ago, its astounding that such a great game has such a huge flaw in the story part. Its like night and day.

Another workaround is the forget about the tanks (which you can’t use since you get knocked out from it every 5 seconds or something) and use the mortars instead.
I’ll be happy when this personal story is done, its the last en for me, no more, never.
PS: Love the rest of the game though.
When I first started playing I salvaged everything but now, when I got a fair amount of mats in the bank, I only salvage things that will give me cloth and leather. Metal and wood is easy to come by so heavy armor and weapons I tend to vendor for that extra cash. But – of course – I always check what I would get on TP before vendoring it.
Yet another reason for ArenaNet to put a little more effort in to the patch notes.
Seems like they add stuff without testing it thoroughly. Just like they released the game far to soon.
And yet, I love this game. Doesn’t add up…
Like so many others, I’d like to know what will be done about the free server transfers, which as of today, is used as a tool to spy on the opposite servers. All is fair in love and war, at least so they say, but since the transfers aren’t supposed to be free we’d like to have a update on it.
Botter reporting - any way to find out the result?

Well, if I told you — hand on heart — we smited (smote?) more than 3,000 bots this afternoon, would that make you feel a little more cheery?
Great! Only 3000 more to go. Or something like that.
Three attempts on this quest, three times I’ve been stuck in Defend the gates section. I reproduce it just fine.
I’m playing solo, looking in every nook and crane for any risen but nothing and no one.
I’m done playing the personal story (this is not the first issue with it I’ve had, just check my previous posts). There nothing personal about it, its all about Trahearne and not at all about me, and the story is mediocre at best (not to mention the voice acting) and if I want to play a mass-slaughter game there are plenty of FPS shooter out there that can provide that. Not only all that, there are also bug after bug that stops your progress and forces me to play the same tedious part over and over and over again.
I’m done.
Just implement a option to let me hide the quest from the top right corner and I’ll be happy, because the rest of the game (PvE, Dungeons, WvW and PvP) is great fun.
Edit: I just realised that there is one POI that only can be acceptable via the personal story so if I want to have 100% map completion in Straits of Devastation, I have to play the personal story… Great.

It’s not that the fights are too difficult, it’s just that they’re plain boring and repetitive.
I so agree with this. I like a challenge, its supposed to be hard. But killing horde after horde of undeads is not hard, its just mind-numbing and tedious. Like I wrote in another post just few minutes ago, I wonder if they added that in the personal story to cater to a younger player base. I don’t know. All I know is that I, as a older gamer (47), prefer to play missions with more tactical gameplay and challenges then just sitting there spamming my skills.
I was actually thinking the same thing last night when I was doing my personal story. I was on my Sylvari Mesmer, level 24. I’ve done it with a Asura Elementalist and I’m at the end with another story with my level 70 Guardian.
Is it the game, the voice acting, the clichés? Have they thrown in the sections where you have to kill horde after horde of risen to cater to the younger players who seems to enjoy that? I’ve said it before, it sometimes feel like I’m playing Serious Sam. The mass-slaughter of risen usually appears around level 50 but now, on my Sylvari Mesmer, it started to appear already at level 20+ and I’m so fed up with it, not just the story itself and the voice acting (and Traherne !) that I’m actually thinking about skipping it completely.
But it would be nice, since I’m a completist, to finish a third personal story so I have all the paths.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m to old for this. Maybe my standards in story telling is higher then this. I want to be given tasks that involves more tactical thinking then mindless mass-slaughter, more brain then brawl.
Only thing I know is when I do PvE, Dungeons, WvW and SPvP I enjoy the game a lot – but when I do the personal story I’m mostly annoyed, frustrated and clicking “Skip to next” as soon as it appears just to be done with it.
I can confirm that not rushing through the barricades fixed it for me as well.
I actually can’t remember Trahearne ever saying “The next wave will face soldiers, not scholars” before. But this time he said it and the mission continued and didn’t bug at the south gate.
So slowing down and killing all the spawning enemies at the first camp then killing all the enemies on the way to the first group of researchers instead of jumping over the barricades seems to be the key.
It seems to be a key but not a 100% solution because I’ve cleared all the mobs, Trahearne said all the right things and still some of the NPC from the group you rescue inside the cave refused to follow. But its definitively something to keep an eye on since it seems to help the majority of players who have issues with this part of the personal story.
For me it was just before the cut-scene where Trahearne starts to summons his elite pets., right after we rescued the group inside the cave.
I’ve actually managed to complete it. It seems I like to torture myself so I gave it a third try about 30 minutes ago and lo and behold, it worked. And yet I didn’t nothing I haven’t done before. Go figure.
I’m not doing it on my third character until I know for sure Its fixed. I don’t like self-torture that much.
Can the two of you please try the fix I posted?
It’s not just nonsense. It really does work.
I always kill everything (not just in this part) and Trahearne says “The next wave will face soldiers, not scholars” and its still broken. So no, your solution may have been 100% successful for you but not for me.
Did this quest this morning, then I lost the connection to the server and wrote this post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Restart-the-personal-story-where-we-left-of-i-e-where-we-crashed
Now I had another crack at it and this time 4 NPCs are stuck and refuses to follow me and thus the quest cant progress.
- Agent Zrii
- Krewe Leader Dobbs
- Krewe Reasercher INja
- Crusader Afanen
Its almost getting to a point where I’m not going to bother with the personal story any more, on this character or anyone else. At this point its just frustrating and when I log on I want to have fun, not be frustrated.
Restart the personal story where we left of (i.e. where we crashed)?

Is it possible to add a function to restart where you left of during your personal story? I’m on my second character, completed the story on the first one, at level 60 on my second and doing right now “Forging the Pact”.
Four times during these personal story either my game has crashed or I’ve lost connection to the server. Three of those times I’ve been involved in a loooong section of the story, mindless fighting hordes of risen and being “forced” to do that same tedious part all over again isn’t my idea of a great time.
If there was a way that, if the game crashed or you lost connection to the server while you are doing the personal story, log in and start where we left of, that would be great.
(That or cutting down on the mind-numbing task of killing risen after risen after risen… I feel sometimes like I’m playing Serious Sam.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this game and I’ll be playing it for years. But its not perfect, especially the later part of the personal story. I’m only doing it for the rewards, XP and more importantly, Tome of Influence.)
Best regards.

While I agree that updates should be posted in the official forum, it doesn’t requires you to have a FB or Twitter account to access the information on Facebook and Twitter . There are good information to get from there during downtime, maintenance and other issues. I see no reason to be afraid to make a link to the GW2 Twitter account and check that whenever there is a issue.

This should really be a sticky. A thread with such a rather important topic and game breaking bugs deserves more attention and not to fade away.

I believe Elementalist (which is my main, focusing on Staff mostly) is fine. We have the tools we need within our four attunement. However, I’d like to see weapons swap implemented, just to make it easier then opening the bags and swapping manually. Just make it so we can’t swap in combat.
So…I’ve put this off for about a week now since the problem arose…should I just finish the story and pray I don’t get screwed or get reimbursed if I do get screwed?
I would like to finish the story sometime soon…but not if I’m getting trash as a reward.
This I’d like to know as well.
I’m almost at the end and I’ like to be done with it – especially since the last part of the Personal Story just been killing hordes of risen (boring) and bugs which forced me to restart some of the events (and thus had to kill the same mindless horde of risen yet again).
But if I’m going to get crap loot I might as well forget the whole thing.
But at least, if I should get crap loot it would reflect how I’ve found the last part of the personal story to be. Tedious and mindless mass slaughter. /yawn
But besides that, I love the game.
Same issue here and I agree with OP. The events prior to meeting Archmage Harshaf was very tedious. There isn’t much skill in sitting in a tank spamming the same buttons for 10 minutes. The early personal story was fun but the longer it progressed the more tedious the objectives was. It’s almost like the writers at ArenaNet got bored and/or stressed for time and just threw something in there to be done with it.
There is no way I’m redoing this until I know its fixed. Sitting in that tank for another 10 min? No thank you.
Other then that, I love the game. ;)
