For the engineer, it feels like a two way street in all game modes, either condition or power. Personally I do not see cele working, since you need to rune and trait specifially for condi in order to inflict enough conditions to do significant damage. If you play power, you are not going to be applying as many damaging conditions that the extra condi damage would make up for lost power/crit.
For PvE, I would suggest going zerker, condition build are good in WvW and PvP for the extra survivability you gain from Dire and just shutting down your opponents with conditions.
From a WvW point of view, both are strong. The rev is more fun for me(maybe because it is still new), however lately I have been feeling the guardian more. All of Revs blocks and evades(excluding staff 5) lock me in place whereas guardian can move while blocking. Also the rev has serious trouble with condition cleansing unless you build for it, but then you have to sacrifice something you won’t want to give up.
If you like the trait, play it. If you feel like something else is better for you, take that.
Everyone else will use every cheese imaginable any way, might as well not care about what your opponents think.
Practise will take you far. These days you need to get the mobility perfect, depending on the matchup. Knowing your opponents capabilities, when to dodge, when to block and when to push is very important. Guardians have more blocks than most, but they must still be used wisely.
I would say just get a solid build and fight away.
Remember when it used to be okay for people who play a game to be successful in it? Right now, the only fast and reliable way to make game gold is to go to your real life boss and ask him for some overtime to buy gems and convert to gold. Which may give Anet some boost short term.
Personally I never buy gold like this. So what if I could get that shiny legendary? I would not deserve it and it would feel like cheating. And lets say next week they launch some nice armor skins….do I rush to buy more gems? I think not…
I believe that Anet really went too far with the commercialization, given how competitive the MMO market is.
Buying gold for real life cash should not exist at all. Tho this is a buy to play game, so we are willing to accept it as an alternative for the slackers and those who earn too much to care about the cash. However there has to be a way for the people who actually play the game to be successful at it too. Farming should not be a crime.
This last patch, 20th may, is a good indication of the direction this game is heading…
Anet added PU to give mesmers more build diversity. So that the mesmers who so wished, would also be able to play defensively instead of 100% of mesmers running a zerker build.
I mostly play WvW, where every experienced player uses some form of defense. The whole key to a successful WvW build is to find the “sweetspot” between survability and damage. Without PU, mesmers would be rallybotting all over the place.
