You are having a brain hurricane.
You guys are funny. You think that only by doing a variety of quests will give you the precursor. Right now the mystic toilet’s RNG is the only thing that removes vast amount of materials. IMHO this new system will require a huge amount of mats and gold among the other things.
But still will be better than the toilet.
After thinking about it for a while a simple solution would be to change the system as following:
Instead of the current recipe
4 x item -> 1 x item
with a probability of p for the resulting item being a precursor, make it as
4 x item -> precursor_shard (probability q) OR 1 x (non-precursor) item (probability 1 – q)
and make precursors available through the recipe
m x precursor_shard + fancy_stuff -> precursor (guaranteed)
By setting q / m = p the expectation value of a precursor stays the same as before. However, instead of an exponential distribution, the system now follows a binomial distribution, with a significantly smaller variance.
In simpler terms, it would be just like the system used for crafting mystic clovers. Can you imagine what it would be like if the only mystic clover recipe had a 1/250 chance of producing 77 clovers in one go, and 249/250 chance of producing random junk?
The suggested solution gives the system a coarse memory through the accumulation of shards, and cuts out worst excesses in both directions. In that system it’s still in average just as hard to get a precursor as before, but now that hardness is reasonably fair.
+1 I wouldn’t mind if I had to spend a ridiculous amount of resources if I could have a sense of progress over time. It’s possible to suck the same amount of resources and gold with the current system without the stressful thing we have now.
And if you want to make it long term progress add the use of materials you cannot obtain with gold like skill points, laurels and karma among with the other mats that zomoros needs to suck out of the game.

I’ve been playing warrior in WvW lately with hammer/rifle. Hammer is excellent to use while in zergs. Roaming alone is sure death. Thieves chop me and I don’t have the time for a fart if I endure pain is on cd.
Wait, but the Hunter is at 600G now.
A friend told me I should never use the forum. He told me I would get disappointed from the vast amount of off-topic posts. The point is that a lot of people including me believe the TP is manipulated and not the current (still huge price) of the Hunter. Especially the precursors are manipulated and lots of people are discouraged from setting legendary as a goal.
I have enough capitalism in my everyday life.
I’ve been watching the TP. Prices are so badly manipulated. Precursors even disappear and reappear with a 900g price (see The Hunter).
I don’t disagree that the legendary should be a gold sink and let’s face it gold sinks are needed in every MMO. But this is so depressing. You can’t even set a long term goal.
It would be nice to have a PvE battlefield instead of timed events. The best orr map at the moment is Straits of Devastation if we consider the mechanics. The map has three assaults that need cooperation from the players. Players talk in the map chat about their progress at each path and work together in many spots to accomplish the assault Balthazar. I played these chains some times when I needed shards and I always loved that after some hours we finally took the temple. The map is nice because much of the content focuses on a common and rewarding goal.
On the other hand, Cursed Shore is Tag Wars at the moment.
