The biggest issue with them being spirits is that they are spirits. Every class in the game dreads getting pets or pet like mechanics because even if they don’t actually attack they can still be CC’d and cleaved down. I’m pretty sure they can even be pulled/pushed/etc based on the fact they can be feared (when feared they run away, then setup to do their effect again). These just make them horrendous for any kind of competitive play.
The second biggest issue is they have cast times, energy costs and cool downs. Revenant was designed to not have that many cast times and cool downs due to energy cost. If they wanna mix things up and have cast times and cool downs the energy costs need to come way down to compensate.
So adding more spirits that follow you like a Warband isn’t going fix the current problems with them. I’d love to see them as offensive auras instead of defensive ones like Glint, but I feel like that’s pushing it a bit much and likely wouldn’t synergize with short bow very well.
After playing several PvP matches (some of which I actually won) I would say that the heal should be instant cast on the players location at the very least. And that particular summon should be invulnerable. The same could be said for the elite. It would also be nice if those two at least followed the player as they move around. The rest don’t bother me too much but the cast times are pretty heinous. I can also see how having the warband members be targeted will make them well neigh useless in WvW combat.

Having spent a good amount of time playing a venom share thief in pve as well as mallyx/jallis condi rev I have to say I am extremely hyped for Razorclaw’s Rage! With venom share you get 4(Devourer->panic strike->potent poison)+6(spider) applications of poison every 30-40 seconds shared with 5 allies. With Razorclaw’s Rage you get 1 application of bleeding every second for 5 allies for 10 seconds on a 15 sec cooldown. With 100% alacrity uptime Razorclaw’s Rage could be up all the time! that’s 50 stacks of bleed on a boss every ten seconds, 150 stacks every 30 seconds, compare that to 50 stacks of poison every 20-27(with 100% alacrity uptime) seconds for condi thief. It’s going to be rad!
I also like that the heal is a stun break!
I am curious to see if renegade, corruption, devastation with nightmare/trapper runes and geomancy/smoldering will be raid meta kindof using all the bow skills, and maybe citadel bombardment as well. Or if renegade, devastation, invocation with krait runes and agony/earth using only bow 1+2 will be better? Can’t wait till tonight to find out! Although it might not be easy to get the answer without the special forces training area, the pvp dummies have smallish hp pools.
I for one am loving your train of thought! That’s the kind of creative and positive? feedback one likes to see. Well it pan out, who knows, but it gives one hope! Cheers!
Thanks, but having actually played it now, I think it is clear that mace/axe will remain raid meta for condi rev. The renegade is still worth taking but even if they fix the bugs with bleeding duration not being increased the short bow can only put out about half the single target dps as mace/axe. It will be rad for wvw zergs especially if they make the warband follow the player. On the other hand I don’t think that any ranged weapons are meta in raid, so that’s no biggie.
Blood Fury is supposed to boost Bleeding Duration by 25% while we have a Fury boon. As far as I can tell it simply does not add any bleed duration at all.

Blood Fury is supposed to grant +25% bleeding duration when you have fury. All indications are that it simply does not work at the moment. I will reserve judgment until they fix it. But for now I can tell you that I am doing almost 100% more damage with mace/axe than shortbow. This elite spec seems quite under-tuned.

I was doing far far more dps with my mace axe than my bow.
I haven’t got home from work yet to test but it seems that the consensus is that Anet has severely undertuned the Renegade in comparison with the other elites. There is a bit of time till the expac drops, so hopefully they will fix it ASAP. Sadly though this situation seems to confirm the public perception that Revenant is now and has always been a 2nd fiddle afterthought compared to the base gw2 classes.
played it for the past 5 hours only wvw. for a wvw player the bow is a nice addition (could use some tweaks but not bad) but the skills are awful. It seems to me if they made the renegade spirits invulnerable then that would make a world of difference (and it would make sense because they are ghost after all). As is, they just die when summoned from all the aoe. If it remains this way i could see this, at best, as just using the trait line without the legend, which would be a real bummer because then i wouldn’t have access to dragon stance.
I absolutely agree that they should be invuln, I also think that they should move with the player.
I hadn’t thought about the summons getting the bleeding on hit effect from razorclaw’s rage?, that’s neato. Glad to hear that the lifesteal seems to be worthwhile, I wasn’t too pumped about it honestly.

I can already tell you that Icerazor’s Ire should apply chill. If for no other reason than that there is no way to apply chill with the shortbow or any of the renegade abilities and that it’s called ICErazor’s Ire. Plus it would be nice to have at least one option for synergy with Abyssal Chill for kittens sake!
I submitted a ticket on this last night:

I tried both my cards, which both have more than enough to cover 8k gems. Got a message like “Unfortunately an error has occurred, please try again later.”
And I got this automatic reply:
