1) Close out the patcher client.
2) Apply the “hosts” edit mentioned in the Reddit post.
3) Flush your DNS.
4) Open game client again.

Not 100% sure on Windows 8, but here’s what Google finds: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/command-prompt-windows-8.htm
Windows 7 is easy. Open the Start menu and search for “Command Prompt”. If nothing comes up, search for “Run” and type “cmd” into the new window that pops up with Run, press Enter.

Either way, you should wind up with a text-only box. In that, type “ipconfig /flushdns”, no quotes, and press Enter.

If this really is the only issue with getting the new patch, then it’s really not ArenaNet’s fault. It’s an ISP thing, DNS propagation and the time lag when ISP’s update their DNS servers. I use OpenDNS and didn’t run into this issue at all. x.X

So, i first removed GW2 launcher by exiting in Task Manager then opened up my command prompt and successfully flushed the dns by typing in the command: ipconfig /flushdns and… im still stuck at little to few kbs then to 0.. I’ll check out that link and figure out if theres anything i missed.

@Rislod: Did you try to do a DNS cache flush after applying the temp fix? Find the Command Prompt in your Start menu (or whatever it is in Metro if you’re on Win8), then do “ipconfig /flushdns”.

Can anyone confirm that this approach is safe?
Altering the system 32 file through: Edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts using notepad (run as administrator)
Then pasting this at the bottom:174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Yup, the task manager is the only way to terminate the launcher… the launcher becomes unresponsive when it displays at the “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” stage, Cant interact with the launcher nor exit through clicking the “x” button at the top right corner.

I’m having the same exact problem, is there a fix for this issue? Earlier when patching the patcher was stuck at 1 Files Remaining, now its no longer displaying the percentage bar as you’d normally would see in the ui at login screen. The patcher ui is now completely blank as to there is no login display but a downloading display with the Guilds Wars 2 text and the sylvari women off to the side. Downloads start and stops with little to few kb, ultimately will end in an “Connection Error… Retrying” message. This problem continues to persists since of the new patch, i have never encountered this problem and last night the game ran fine… Need a fix asap, please and thank you
