As of now to become a commander you must buy some gems, exchange them for gold, and pay the 100 gold fee. Lots of people do this and then DON’T ever even go to WvW and be a commander. Some people just want the icon over their head, which isn’t a big deal to be honest. Now what about the dedicated WvW players leading groups daily and working their butts off to help the server? Nothing, they get nothing, because some random commander joins and everyone flocks to them, and some don’t even know what they are doing. Don’t get me wrong, most commanders are great, and I respect them, but there are those that don’t deserve it, and then those that do but cant afford the 100 gold.
I’m not telling Anet to get rid of the 100 gold, they have to make their money and that is fine, but what about the guys and girls that are in WvW the majority of their playing time, and working hard? They should be able to be a commander as well. Badges of honor is a great way for them to do that.
