Issues with the Crab Toss

I’ve been playing this game quite a bit to knock out my achievements, and I believe it has the potential to be a great minigame. I feel like there are quite a few issues with it however.

  1. Evasion is hardly a factor in this game. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone use the “Steal” ability on me while I’m mid-backflip.
    The main problem is that this mini game cause lots of lag. Heck its worse then the worst time in wvwvw.
  2. “Dash” is terribly inconsistent. I’ve literally watched some many other players dash all the way across the arena. I dash 10 meters, if I’m lucky.
  3. Additionally after “Dash” is finished, the characters find themselves frozen in place for half a second. May not seem like much, but it’s a huge halt on momentum.
  4. At one point this morning we had 3 crabs in play. I won’t lie. This was pretty fun. However, I’m pretty sure that’s a bug.
  5. It needs more Karka’s…..I’m being facetious, of course. The last thing this game needs is more chaotic variables.
  6. Far too much latency in the click-targetting. And of course tab-targetting is unreliable.
  7. Considering how overpowered the fishing pole is, why is the cooldown on it less than the cooldown on “Steal”?
  8. The crab itself is held with two hands. How is someone able to blow a conch shell with both hands encumbered?
  9. The way the achievements are set up, it’s just another grind. Not a terrible grind. But all hardly anyone is there to do is knock out those achievements.
  10. “Crabtastic” doesn’t seem to proc like it should. It’s already hard enough as it is. But for it to not work when you do finally pull it off is a huge slap in the face.
  11. Needs more Karkas. I think I’ve already addressed this. In fact, I think you should add both of the bosses from the end of Molten Facility as well. There’s not enough variables to worry about.
  12. Why’s it called the “Crab Toss”? I mean, the purpose of the game is to hold it as much as possible. Right? Tossing is a factor…But…I think Apple Jacks taste more like apples than I think this game is about tossing a crab.

It needs some finetuning, ArenaNet. But it has potential.

1) The reason why this happens is because the mini game cause a lot of lag. I would say that its even worse then the worst times in 100’s vs 100’s battles in wvwvw.

2) You need to hold the button down… The longer you hold it the further you will run. If you simply just press it then you will run the minimum distance. If you hold it the entire time it should be able to take you almost from one side of the arena to the other.

3) The reason why you stop is… well ok its a feature of the ability to allow others to catch up you can note that your character will “slow down” and stop and then it take 1-2 sec before you can move again. I guess its a balance thing and im fine with it.

4) Its the lag sadly… Lots of strange things happen because of this. I have had games where EVERYONE got on first place.

5) Im fine with them once you understand the general idea.

7) No idea what you are talking about… I tend to win without using that tool. The thing is that you need to think when you run around. If someone gets in the way you will hit that person instead. This makes the tool balanced.

8) I agree you should not be able to have another thing in your hand if you carry the crab… for balance reasons. The ability to roll 4 times or fear people over and over again. Sprint… People follow you… Fear… Dodge sprint and so on.

Also i agree on the name… It sound like its a team based game where you “throw” it around and the have to avoid the creatures and other team… Instead its a game of tag.

The real problem here is invisible enemies. Give their algorithms time to match servers properly.

This is a major problem…

First of all i recommend that you allow people to have a character draw distance in the options menu. Allow people to change that however they want and then give us a option to decide how many players should be shown within that radius.

Me? I would take max distance and unlimited actors. But hey i know my computer can handle it O.o

So lets talk about the southern invasion im sure most people here know about these guys… The ones that are not doing anything.

The entire “event” line is broken. I honestly dont think there is a single part of the southern invasion line that work in any way shape or form.

Could you (the devs) Please either:
1.Fix this
2.Move the items that the vendor sell?

I have a lot of saved karma points because i want to buy the gear that the karma vendor sell but sadly i cant do this because the event never happen

Aha, I finally got my GM tag added, so this should up as an official post. Anyway, we’re currently looking at the issue, it’s definitely not intentional. Thanks!

You should send new items to people that have done it already, when i did complete the fight (note that i honestly think the devs were at the office laughing about it), and yes the fight is a joke… The entire encounter is a joke. And then to add even more insult to how bad the fight was… You get a troll face "here you go thank you for saving the world (for now) im sure you will need these 5 level 40 items :>

Anyway things that need to be fixed (note that these are not the only problems with higher level content).

*The entire fight is so buggy that you might as well remake it from scratch… There is NOTHING worth saving there content or code wise.
*The rewards are a joke.
*The cinematics and music and voice acting is not there / not working / bugged.

My suggestion is… use staff and remember to change attunments while running around. You should be able to keep him from hiting you by using the slow attacks, stun, pushback and roll. This give you like lots of ways to not only slow the mob… But also for you to avoid damage.

All i know is that i died 2-3 times on the fight after that one but you can still do it with alot of running around and CC.

Well one easy way to solve it without hurting anyone and making it fair AND allowing servers a more fair fight and even giving them a chance for a comeback would be a system like this:

You split scores into 4 times a day (or 3) Each “round” can be won and will give the team with the most score during that time 2 points. The team on 2nd place will get 1 point and the team on last place will get 0 points.
At the end of each round the points that you gain from capturing and holding locations is reset (Note only the score not the map itself). Then a new round being and the team that have the most points during that time will win the next round and so on.

This gives people a reason to continue to fight, it allows night timers to play (or people from other time zones), But it also allow people that play on the servers main prime time (when the most people are on) to make a comeback and not wake up and think "oh kitten the other team have a 60k point lead ahead of us.

Example:
Red team now have 54000 points after night time while Blue have 4000 and Green have 1000. Then it get to the end of the round and red wins so they gain 2 points blue gain 1 point and green 0.

Score:
Red:2
Blue:1
Green:0

Now everyones score from capturing things reset (note the bonus things dont, neither do the capture points), Now everyone have a score at 0 again but red is in the lead on the score that decide the 2 week winner.

It the next round is won by Green 2nd place is red and last blue. Then the score look like:
Red:3
Blue:1
Green:2

And it continues like that until the end of the 2 week time.

*Missing Features
So here are things i think should be added to the game and its simply annoying that they are not in the game in the first place.

*A button to directly go to the market. No i dont want to open the gem store… 99.999% of the time you dont want to open the gem store. Now i know the devs are having a heart attack over there. But i want a key to directly go to the market place (atleast i have not found one).
*COD mail… Cash on delivery mail… Not only is the mailbox small but its annoying that one cant sail items over the mail system. It should be a required feature.
*Trade window… Do i need to say more honestly? Oh right it should have a “are you sure” box for safety reasons. It should also show the name of the item on the side.
*The ability to make the crafting bank locations larger… Either by gems or gold or karma or anything.
*More end game challenges (larger events / dungeons) and lets not forget make them harder…
*The ability to scale particle effects even more
*The option to (as a group leader) increase how long something you draw on the map is shown.
^These for a start i have some more things but yeah

Anyway comments suggestions flames or… ok no trolling

And once again i do like the game… I just feel that it could be so much better if it was not so rushed at parts and if it had abit better end game + the features missing put into the game.

Then you have giant plot holes. So in my story i got to try a super golem suite of overpowered godmode… Yes im not joking… it have teleportation that deals close to 10 000dmg (AOE) with only global cooldown and a heal that brings it up to 100% health… So why in the world is no one using that armour? Heck you could solo the dragon if you had that armour in the final battle. So why the hell dont you see anyone using these ever again? Or the boss that ate a mini nuke in his face and survived. The story T.T .

But lets go to the rewards for killing the dragon. It was like the devs trolled me. I just saved the world (for now) and… … i got level 40 items… Wait… What? But hey atleast i got like 5 level 4X items BEAT THAT. No im out of words.

Short version:
-The Personal Story quest lines are rushed as hell, you dont get to care about anyone or anything, Its like the devs had 20+ more quests in mind but ran out of time.
-Any character that is not one dimensional and boring gets killed to add a dramatic effect to the story, however it fail to do so and instead make you care even less about the story.
-Lots of story things gets pulled out of a very dark place and dont lead anywhere
-The end boss is a joke with a big troll face and the rewards are even worse its like the devs are laughing over at the office.
-Characters dont remember you if you have seen them before.

PvP:
While i dont have much to say about this i think there are some things that need to be looked into. Some classes have a major advantage when they are “down”, There need to be a look at the “night www raids” maybe split the days into 6 hours each and if you win the round you get 1 point (you still have the things you captured only the “score” reset.

Something also need to be done with all the afk, boting players in www also remove the “world bosses” there like for example the worm. The rewards are bad, it dont give anything for the time it takes to kill it and there are always some people wasting time and spots doing pve content in a pvp zone.
Beside that there are some general class imbalance issues and stuff like that.
Also you should add some events from the end of the beta… Fun small side events that happens 1-3 times a day or so.

Short version:
-People going afk, boting and doing pve content in the www zone need to somehow be fixed.
-General class balance issues
-www night raids decide the winner
-Some classes have obvious advantages if they get “downed”

Lets start of by saying that i do enjoy GW2 a lot but just because i enjoy something dont mean that its problem free or lack features.

Events & Hearts:
There is some major lack of polishing at zones above level 50. Its like not a single person did any kind of bug testing in these zones. Entire event chains gets broken daily, Items and objects dont work and you cant press on them. Now i dont have a problem with the idea behind events and hearts. I think there would be a lot of variety if all the events worked all the time. But because for example in the level 80 zone a lot of the events are broken. It makes it abit boring because then you end up farming the same few events over and over again. Now i included Skill events in this one also, there are some npc’s that do not move at all and you need a guardian to "push" them to get them to move again in other words very very broken content.

Short version: Low level areas = tested, High level areas = Very broken :(

Personal Story:
I honestly dont know where to start with this one. I know GW2 is not a story based game. I know some people will tell me "its a mmo, did you think you would get the same quality as a single player game (name)" No i did not think that but... This story... Oh my god... Its so bad that i dont know where to start. I guess at lower levels.

As someone that played a sylvari White Stag, Dusk, Act with wisdom but act. The story was abit rushed and it feels as if i did not get to care about the characters at low level. You get to start the hunt for the white stag... But your companion turns out to be someone from the nightmare court, this character wants you to join the nightmare court and when you decline he get sad (yes) and lateron challenge you to a duel one vs one. I mean this is the only Nightmare court character (that i have found) that is not a mindless "I KILL ALL" character and the devs decide "lets go out and kill the only good protagonist for lower levels" Instead of using him to create a even more epic story.

The rest of the low level things i dont have much to say... You get to meet some new companions only for them to not appear until later in the game (if you pick them) at that point they talked to me like they had never seen me before, Oi... Hello i saved you from almost certain death from the country of death... Hello dont you remember me!?

As the story continue you will get new companions, hey i even LIKED that character because it was not a one dimensional character like the majority of characters you find in the game only for the devs / writers to pull a "so we need a dramatic moment in the game... lets have the players companion sacrifice themselves for no reason to add some drama to the story" there is only one problem... ok make that 3 problems. First of all there is NO reason for your companion to die at that moment not from the story point of view or any logical reason. Then its the only "good" character in the story... The only interesting one. Now im not saying that its wrong to kill a character... However the problem come when its the only "very good" character. And then the 3rd problem... After i played that part of the story every companion you get dies. At that moment i stopped giving any care about any character in the story... Overall its just plain lazy writing with over dramatic effects to try to force the player to care but it just make the player care even less.

Then we have the other problems... The end story parts. Now as a sylvari it makes sense that the guy i cant remember the name on get to lead the pact (even if it can be abit confusing for other races), the problem come to his character or how he is played. He is so stuck up and annoying and lets not forget worthless in game. "HERE TAKE THIS LENGENDARY WEAPON"... (he dies 10sec later) O.o . And the lines everytime he speak i just want to bash my head on the keyboard to end the pain. Its like the writers went out and bought a book with the title" How to write a bad story in 100steps" and followed it. I just cant care for his character at all.

But it gets better. When you do help him complete his quest he in short go "great this is good dragon is still out there. Thanks for your help. Bye bye". Just like with every other character in the story he just get thrown away once the part is done. But when you do kill the dragon and oh my god you will kill him because he was sokitteneasy that i honestly went "oh my god... he is going to pull a *Orr was merely a setback" and return to attack the players once again.
