I too jump at times that I shouldn’t but I’m afraid it would likely make it too easy to dodge too many attacks.
Can you imagine how annoying pvp or WvW would get with every player constantly jumping around?
I was an avid mount collector in WoW. I had over 120 of them. As much as I liked them, I’m happy to not have them here. There’s a couple reasons:
1) In order to keep mounts “fresh” and fun, you need to add more. You’ll always have collectors clammoring for more and no MMO stops once they’ve started the collectors on a run. This leads to the problem of trying to find new mounts that make sense and new abilities. In WoW, flying mounts were the destruction of the world (aside from LFD). Multi-player mounts were cool, but just allowed the second person to go completely afk while the driver flew from location to location (or randomly dropped you to your death).
2) In WoW, with mounts you wouldn’t interact with others, nobody stopped to help anyone else (not that WoW made it worthwhile to help others anyway) but with the community in GW2 being as good as it is with random helping and rezzing, mounts would likely spell the end of that.
3)The griefers. Anyone who has seen 10 mammoths parked on any item of importance, whether for a holiday or just a mailbox (before mailboxes were everywhere) has experienced this frustration. Sure you can still stack 10 max sized Norns on a quest giver, but that hasn’t attracted the griefers like mounts would.
4)Forum complaints: Right now you get the occasional post about how we should have mounts. If they were implemented, you’d get complaints about how ridiculous certain races look on each mount, how each race should have a specific mount, that there should be certain colors (or not) of each mount, etc. etc. Why open another massive avenue to make nit-picky players complain when they’re finally getting some semblance of order to the forums. At least now many of the posts are somewhat useful.
Those are my problems with it. Like I said, I enjoy that there are no mounts even if I find the gold sink and slow running a little tedious at times.
The issue I see here is that it would kill the prices of the few farming mats that are actually worth selling. Otherwise, I like the idea of your own home or farm.
Love the downed system and the defeated system. It was intended to address the problem of only certain people or professions being able to rez someone. The dungeons require it. I don’t think I’ve heard from too many people who can do all the bosses without anyone getting downed, some for sure, but not all. It wouldn’t make sense to rewrite everything for that.
In WvW, I really enjoy the downed state. I play a guardian stacking vit and toughness primarily and I can run into large group of enemies and scatter them while still giving myself enough time to run back out and heal, popping CD’s of course. If I fall, I have a guildmate who watches my back and picks me up quickly. It has become part of our strategy to work this way, you really just need to adjust yours too. You likely won’t win in a 5 vs 15 battle so maybe it’s better to hamper and slow the 15 rather than killing 5, or even 10, before you all die, while still waiting for reinforcements when you know they’ll rez and gain ground before your reinforcements arrive.
I disagree with making them into mounts, but the breeding makes for a very interesting idea. You could set up an elaborate mating scheme where people would sell breeding rights to their animals due to rare colorings or some other feature. It would need to keep in the theme of Guild Wars of only being cosmetic, but I’m sure it would be lots of fun to do. Just look at how many millions of people play things like Farmville or Harvest Moon. Actual farming (not MMO grind/farming) is both time consuming and lots of fun.
I had to log in just to add my support for this idea. I love collecting skins and whatnot. Once WoW added the transmutation ability, I ran around in my tier 2 set all the time. I very much like the idea of a scavenging kit so the original item is destroyed just for the skin. I’d venture so far as to say you’d get no crafting materials from it as well so that it’s understood you are ONLY going to get the skin and there would be no abuse of the rares mats or ectos (God only knows that it would be discovered whether it was more profitable or not to use that kit in general).
ANet, this is a very valid suggestion, much more so than all the “I’ll quit if you don’t give me my Halloween skin” complaints.
I’m gonna admit to being in the even smaller minority than people without smart phones and ask: Is there any way to get this on my Blackberry?
