If GW2 went subscription?

First of all, you stated a myth that subscriptions equal more money for the developer and thus better content for the players. This is not true. While lack of money may doom a game. Additional revenue is simply passed on to the owners of the game not put into further development. The development budget is already set. For example; World of Warcraft makes Big Zillions of cash for Blizzard and I don’t think that ‘extra’ cash is put back in WoW development. It is profit, to be used as Blizzard sees fit. Maybe put in a failed (Titan) future MMO?

Second, if GW2 went with a subscription ‘option’ I would quit. I view most subscription games as extortion rackets. They are a bad value for customers. Forcing customers to fork over $150.00+ every year for access to a game they already spent $60.00 for is just a scam.

Flying endurance is not fun.

When GW2 was designed Anet wisely decided to throw away an old MMO trope. Anet got rid of breathing endurance while swimming underwater. Why? Because breathing endurance makes underwater content not fun. Yet I fear Anet is about to institute a different equally poor MMO trope: Flying endurance.

I cheered when gliding was introduced. I groaned when I read about the attached endurance meter. Flying endurance is not fun. It never has been.

Flying is suppose to be fun. The sights to behold, the exhilaration of movement in aerial content can be amazing. But, flying endurance turns this into a dreaded time limit. Players will be watching the endurance meters not the beauty of the zone. Floating on air can be a breathtaking experience but this is destroyed when an outdated gaming mechanic plummets you to your doom for daring to enjoy the gaming content a bit too long. This is similar to underwater areas in many other MMOs and I fear most players will quickly learn to avoid such content. Flying endurance is simply not fun.

There are other ways of gating gliding content. Such as lowering the forward speed of novice gliders. This still causes novices to miss far away landing spots but doesn’t cause them to fall to their deaths for overreaching. Additionally, if the endurance amount is so large as to not bother ‘most people’, then why is it even there? Flying endurance is not needed.

Flying endurance is not fun.

P.S. I understand gliding is not flying. Flying Endurance is the trope I am opposed to. Thus, I am using that terminology.

Mysterious Skritt Alliance?

The thing ‘killed’ by the skritt is a giant. The hide and face are different from a jotun.

Anyways, we should hurry up and become ‘Honorary Skritt’. That way the Silverwaste Skritt will let us use those tunnels all the faster.

I think it is just a statue. It may be a statue to a human god. Not so sure about that.

All hail the new Pirate King!

All hail the Pirate King – Drrikk’ttikk! I think ANet should honor the new Pirate Skritt gang with new Pirate Skritt weapon skins. They would be just like the old pirate weapons but instead of being old and rusty they would be new and Shiny! Oooo… shiny….

I would think it would be reasonable for players to first become an ‘Honorary Skritt’ (via the achievement). Then, in order to prove their worth, produce a few gifts for the Skritt Pirate King. These gifts would be made via the mystic forge, a rare drop or maybe the result of an event chain out in the world.

Maybe, more appropriately, these items should be average and ‘junky’ but extra shiny!

All hail Pirate King Drrikk’ttikk! May his (her) reign be long and prosperous!

Do Wyverns exist in the Guild Wars Universe?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kantos.1730

Yes. One can find mini wyvern creatures all over Tyria. They are called bats by the natives. Take a close look at these common ‘bats’ they are small, dragon like, wyverns. They are not the terrestrial bats we know in real life.

I believe they are leftovers from a primordial age of dragons that spawned the Elder Dragons. I would assume the rise of the Elder Dragons ended most other dragon species. Hence, the all the dragon corpses that Zaitan has at his disposal.

I have extensively experimented with the various human/norn skin tones. I found that very light or dark skins don’t look good under certain lighting conditions. Thus, all my human and norn toons are medium brown in complexion.

Subscription-based Guild Wars 2

What is stated here in this post is the current Subscription Myth. Sadly, followers of this myth are renting the games they play and paying high fees while doing so.

In short, no. I would not pay a subscription for GW2 or any other game. I am not a fool.

What would GW2 be like with trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kantos.1730

Then GW2 would just be another generic fantasy MMO with interesting art and story line. It may as well charge a subscription and not do any updates for 6 months. That’s what WoW clone lovers seem to like.

As opposed to rushed and ultimately forgettable biweekly updates that always seem to involve gem shop items designed to extract even more money from the playerbase?

Bah, Your argument is non-sense. First, all cash shop items are designed to get money from customers. Second, there are few indicators of a ‘rush job’ in the updates in GW2, such as glitches. One could make an argument on the ‘forgettable-ness’ of the updates, but such would be purely subjective.

Legendary emotes would be cool

These could be additions to a legendary that would cost additional skill points and whatever. Thus, after spending 100 skill points and another Gift of Metal you have a legendary ++ weapon that does a unique emote. More difficult to get and thus more prestigious.

A more visible Night-time.

I agree. The effect on WvW would add another strategic element. Peeps would have to put away the shiny stuff so to ‘sneak up’ on the enemy. I would like it just for the added atmosphere of a darker PvE world. Hmmmm … they could even have moon cycles … but that is just crazy talk.

Ultra-Elite , Ultra-cost skills

Kantos.1730

I am thinking of toggle skills that would somewhat mimic combat transforms like the Warrior’s rampage, various weapon kits or the Norn’s spirit forms.

These skills would cost a great deal, 200+ (400+?) skill points and a bit of other materials.

Functionally, these Ultra-cost skills would be just cosmetic. Thus, letting some people run around as a Norn-bear but be no more combat effective than a Norn with a greatsword.

Possible examples …

Sylvari turns into a Husk or Oakheart
Human turns into an avatar of one the Six gods (separate skill per god)
Asura gets into that battle-suit and just doesn’t leave.
Norn-bears! Norn-ravens! Norn-wolves! Norn-panthers! Oh my!
Charr start the whole claw/claw/bite routine.

Mist were-wolf form only available by grinding some good old sPvP or WvW.
Elemental forms requiring pushing an event chain to obtain.

Finally, these toggle transforms would be functionally similar to Engineer kits or Elementalist summoned weapons. Thus, they would change the appearance of the character and the first five skills on the action bar. Most of these could easily use current artistic assets and duplicate current action bar skills for balance.

A new class? MONK!

“Pugilist” as he is known.
Would be nice to have ingame

Yes, having a pugilist type would be nice. Maybe a warrior variant similar to the elite skill Rampage but with a toggle and new animations (or same ones, its still fun beating things down with bare hands).

A great addition to the game would be..

True, Humans invaded Tyria some time ago. It would be interesting to visit the human home-world and learn why they came to Tyria. But, I don’t think GW2 needs little green men with ray guns and flying saucers. We still have 5 more dragon invasions to fight off.
