HOT is NOT for the Casual (My Sentiments exactly)
(edited by Katiekaboom.1980)
..very frustrating for my friends who were told Guild Wars 2 was this rich, immersive experience, and now they feel like the game is treating them like an idiot because the game doesn’t think that they’ll “get it”.
Meanwhile, once they’ve unlocked something by leveling up enough, the game just says, “hey, you’ve unlocked this thing,” and that’s IT. Barely any explanation, and they’re left scratching their heads going “… okay?” When veteran players were traveling around learning new things it was very natural and very immersive. We saw a thing we didn’t understand, we investigated or learned through action. Now the game has a big pop-up that says “Hey, by the way, now all of a sudden when you die there’s this downed state and you can rally. Have fun!” and players are just left confused.
…
TL;DR: Brought some friends into the fold. The NPE doesn’t help to explain anything to them and only serves to frustrate them (and me) by gating major systems – including the kitten plot – behind a level wall, forcing them to play for many hours before the game actually becomes fun. It should just be fun right out of the gate, like it used to be.
EXACTLY! I first noticed that with my friend Bryan (who subsequently went back to WoW instead of staying with GW2 – not because of that per say but just that he didn’t like how things were set up in GW2 and would get frustrated and told me that WoW was easier to get into and he missed raids). But I remember walking with him as he was brand new and I had jumped on one of my lower characters (who were like level 20 but still lower than 80 so I could still do things I hadn’t in his area). I went to a Vista and he kept saying it didn’t do anything. Now I didn’t know about the changes so I kept explaining you just click on it and what not. In fact I think it was one that I had already done so I couldn’t even tell if it was one where you get something in your inventory and have to consume it or what. Why is this locked anyway for low level characters? I don’t get the reasoning here. This just means that later on they have to come back just for these things .. which people end up going back to areas for World Bosses but not every single spot a Vista and SP are. There is a lot of needless waypointing anymore .. And as for Skill Points, not like they were too high level for them to do as they are in areas they are in that are their level already. I don’t understand why these things are locked for them. IS there a reason??
Maybe that is the confusion in us posting here. We are veteran players complaining about how it is for new players. WE know what has changed and when we help out new players we only end up confusing them instead of being “the most friendly and helpful community in an MMO” that we were claimed to be.
I also noticed that there no longer is a “how many vistas, WP’s SP, etc” completed on the world map. When I hit for the map to come up .. that is missing. When I mouse over a name of an area, it no longer has a mouse popup saying how much of the area has been completed. I found this VERY useful. When did this disappear?

Hrm, so it actually smoothly scales for lower players? That’s pretty nifty. Gets people to try out WvW, PvP and go to different zones in PvE. Exactly what it is intended to do, then.
Did you even read that low levels cannot do WvW or PvP? The dailies are designed for higher levels with no consideration to new players at all.
Why are you being defensive instead of listening/reading and looking at all the detail in the image attached?
In my image it CLEARLY shows that at most a new player is able to ONLY get 1/3 of the dailies … every day.
Suggested solution?
Simple! Add more options or have separate ones for players under level 22.
Notifications and icons for WvW and PvP will be displayed at levels 18 and 22. Players can access them before this time if they already know what to do (portals or hotkey)
New players do not know how to do that however they do see in achievements the dailies they cannot do. Even if someone walks them into WvW or PvP chances are high they will get ganked as skilled WvW & PvP players target players lower then 80 (they have a down arrow beside their level beside their name meaning they are lower than 80).
Thus the dailies for players under level 22 are extremely unrealistic unless they already have a higher level toon to switch to. With the weekend sale that just passed there are a lot of new players who are becoming frustrated. So instead of arguing, these things should be taken into consideration and rectified.

I just hope that with all the hype about an expansion won’t make the issues with NPE to be forgotten… I still wish to have fun playing my Personal Story and not be annoyed by too much dumbing down…
I agree. A lot of people I used to play with left out of boredom but now new players are frustrated as when I try helping them I didn’t know they couldn’t see the vistas or that they were story locked until level 10 and so on. It seems it was a lot more fun when I leveled then it is for them. How is this encouraging new players to play? It is more like it is an attempt to make players play they want Anet wants them to instead of the fun play as you like that I enjoyed with GW2. I have 5 80’s and thoroughly enjoyed the game. My friend Brian (the one who was confronted by not being able to get the vista) went back to WoW and my niece (who I bought the game for at $15 during this weekend sale) is confronted with NPC’s not working and starting story tutorial mission not finishing (Norn story won’t complete due to a door not opening or Eir not showing up or something). She is stuck at level 1 and left the game.
It seems not as fun as it used to be.. The story is now too spaced out (due to level blocks) and not so fluid. You are not feeling really apart of the story .. it is just another step .. and with things not available to low level characters there is no help that says “this will be available at this level but you can do this in the meantime”. They have to know to mouse over and wait and read the pop up that says what level it will be unlocked. At least off hand weapons says in red that it unlocks when you are level 7.

I am locked out of weapon swap until level 17, for Pete’s sake. Are you afraid I might cut myself by having an extra sword on my hip?
I’ll tell you something you did good in all this mess: the dodge tutorial. Simple and efficient. Simple and efficient, like the game once was.
Ah yes that reminds me, I thought when you did the dodge tutorial the chest was supposed to have something in it. Today my niece tried that earlier on a new toon since the Norn story was broken and the chest had nothing in it. Now that it is opened there is no way she will get anything out of it in the future even if it is fixed.
I would rather the bugs (and new bugs) fixed rather than forcing us like mice in a cage down the path that you (Anet) think is best for us. It seems now after this weekend there are more bugs than ever but only on certain servers (I don’t understand that but it is what it is). I do like everything except how things are for new players. New players coming to the game are not happy.
As of just 1/2 hr before reset it is STILL broken.
A free to play person was complaining that they could not do the first story (level 10) and they also could not post on the forum. So here I am posting it for them. I wish I could give them an experience scroll so they could at least do their first world boss fight. I just told them to explore and level that way and that story sucks until later anyway due to it being so split up til 80.
Because of this they recently decided to go back to WoW free to play instead as at least there they can play til 20 for free. I told them they can still do hearts. They were not impressed.

“Guild Wars 2 is currently full. You have been placed in a queue and will automatically enter the game when space is available. Please wait. "
Wait what is THIS now? There are long queues for pvp and now we cannot even get INTO the game at ALL because of queues? What is being done about this? Why is there this queue now to even get INTO the game we paid for? I just got home, don’t have much time to play (only have an hour max tonight and won’t be able to play all weekend) and now I cannot even get in? Thought it was just the server I am on (Fort Aspenwood) but it seems to be most (if not all) servers. I cannot find any information about this so here is the thread I am starting on this. I am hoping to find out what is going on.
Okay guys if you don’t know where to add that temp workaround here is an image to make it easier for you (Please don’t make fun of those who may not know):
(Also if you are not NA please read the original thread by Anet: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Connection-error-s-detected-retrying-115/first#post6643415 )
Even though the errors I get are only saying time outs, load times are longer and my memory use from the game alone is maxed every time I try to play. Since the last patch I get time outs OFTEN and cannot play this way. Yes i know it is said that this is the smoothest post-beta release or expansion release of any game in history but .. it is frustrating never the less. I log in and am in for max 10 min before getting a time out error or not being able to contact the server error. I don’t even use the Firewall that comes with my antivirus since before all this so that isn’t the issue. I was able to play for hours before the last 2 patches.. Heck I am only in Lion’s Arch!
I mean at first I thought it was because my computer is old (Specs here) but I was able to play just fine .. before HoT came out and I decided to buy it before any sale as I was going to.

The overlying system is fine, but the tasks need to change.
Definitely the bottom line of it. But it seems we are not being listened to. We have high level long time players telling us to shut up while new players are feeling intimidated and leaving for other games. Sadly most of my guild has went back to WoW since the changes.
The only thing that might bring them back is the expansion, if they buy it.
All that is needed to fix the current daily system is understanding for low levels and more options, even if there needs to be a separate daily just for the under 22 level players who haven’t learned their way around yet and don’t have all their weapon skills unlocked yet.
What we are asking for is NOT ridiculous. Consider the new users who do NOT know how to get to pvp or WvW because it is locked for them unless they make their way to Lion’s Arch (which you don’t get to without leveling past 10 anyway).
If Anet wants to really understand our point of view, make a brand new character on a new account (Anet can do anything in the name of testing right?) and see how if it is your first character, everything is locked. If you already have one character who unlocked things, then things are unlocked (some) for the new toon (such as if you did WvW, your new toon will see it up there even if they are only level 3).

There are many places even in the base game where gliders are not disabled yet we as players would LOVE for the option to choose to disable them anyway. Could we have a toggle so that we can have gliders off til we turn them back on?
I understand where you are coming from because I have been playing for 3+ years, have HOT and have 100% map completion on my main and all 80’s. Yet I personally prefer PvE and don’t like the new dailies getting us into HOT if we don’t feel like doing it. I mean .. Vista in HOT for a daily was hell for me. I tried for hours to find one I could get to. I found it annoying, frustrating, aggravating, and just made the game not as fun as it used to be when I was just playing the base game. The base game kept me for 3 years because I had choices, variety, and could play any kitten way I wanted to. THAT is what drew me to the game. But with the expansion it loses that feel. The expansion is just basically an extension of Silverwastes and Dry Top. It is not as expansive as the base game. The base game is much better than the expansion. And then on top of that paying the Canadian dollar which is in the toilet meant paying more than I did for the base game. Then the dailies change and now if you want them you can no longer just stick to PvE (as I had been doing) to do them but have to venture into other areas (Expansion, WvW, PvP). Before the expansion I was loving the base game, I was even loving WvW before they ruined it and I haven’t been back (I did hear they fixed some things though but everyone who I played WvW with already left GW2). I am an older person who likes to kick back and enjoy myself in a game (Yes casual. Sue me). I am not a young 20 something who can go hours grinding for the next back piece or legendary. That does not interest me. However the expansion and these new dailies feel like you are being pushed in that direction if you want to stay in this game. I miss having lots of choices on how I want to play the game. I miss playing it my way. (Why do I now hear the McDonald’s slogan in my head??).
Too long; Didn’t read?
I would LOVE more choices in WHAT dailies I want to do. I don’t mind the 3 dailies but want MORE choices for the game I payed (twice) for.
Perhaps add a mode. The general PvE stuff (events, gathering, vistas, world bosses, etc.) could be in one PvE mode. Specialty PvE like dungeons, fractals, activities, JP’s etc. could go into a second PvE category.
They do but it seems that HOT is considered PvE so I would love a separation between PvE base and PvE HOT dailies to choose from as I hate HOT.

Honestly, dailies is unfair for new players how it presently is and here is why: While Anet wants new players to buy the game and play, there are dailies, vistas, story, etc. However, due to their level they are limited from many things that are hanging in their faces and they don’t know why. Many assume they are broken and ask in chat until someone says they have to wait til a certain level. This leaves them feeling like “What? Why do I have to wait? It says it right there!” The way to fix this would be to have more than just 3 or 4 options for dailies in PvE since they cannot do WvW or PvP til a certain level (I believe it says for WvW it unlocks at lvl 18 and for PvP it unlocks at level 22 – hotkey is not accessible til then). However you can circumvent that by taking the portal to the Mysts in Lion’s Arch one you discover Lion’s Arch. Still, how many new players know that? I have come across new players who are quite frustrated with starting out as a new player in GW2 now. Back when I started 2 years ago it was not frustrated at all.
Idea: Perhaps different dailies for low levels? I know that if you have everyone able to do simple things that everyone would choose the simple. That is why I say just for the low levels. However, even mining, gathering, etc is limited as you don’t have the tools to do those until you get them at level 9 as a level reward or find someone to buy those from (which are not in the beginner areas).

Just happened a 4th time. Will the Double XP be extended because of this or will we all miss out?
I took a break from the repeated Disconnects to post out of frustration and I go back to the game to be DC again. We have only had the Double bonus for 20 min and we cannot enjoy it.
I have yet to see a day where I even remotely thought the daily was in any way an effort to get.
While i think that half the time. And on remaining days i think that, while not much of an effort, it was extremely irritating to get.
It is VERY noticeable for low level players.
