Guild Wars 2

For PvP, I have been running Longbow + Greatsword on my main for sometime but have gotten very tired of GS for the following reasons:

1. Maul is damaging but very difficult to land
2. GS 4 is our primary melee defence but knocks our enemies back, out of reach of our maul and we have to spend a roll or use GS 3 just to close the gap for a follow-up hit.
3. GS 5 is also hard to land and only stuns from behind
4. Finally, GS 1 autoattack is slow and not very damaging

So, I am looking at a MH Sword + Dagger or Axe Combo. Here are my thoughts, please correct anything you disagree with and propose if you have a better idea:

1. I like the Sword 1 autoattack (it’s the only thing I like atm), its damaging and “sticky” on moving targets.
2. Sword 2 and 3, how do you use them and in what situation? I don’t have a good sense of how they might be useful.
3. Axe 4: Damaging but I rarely land it in PvP. Is this effectively a point blank only ability?
4. Axe 5: Whirling defense, does this work against Thieves coming out of stealth? Is it for projectile reflection only? Am I better off with the damage from Sword 1 instead of this?
5. Dagger 4 and 5: I am not very experienced with this but have read that it is less useful as it offers too much evade.
6. Torch 4 and 5: They are mainly for condi builds
7. Warhorn 4 and 5: 5 is useful for swiftness but 4 is less reliable and also difficult to land.

TL;DR: Tired of GS, want an informed suggestion on what alternate Melee Weapon Set to use and why.

I second the idea to buff GS damage. GS is the only viable Melee weapon in PvP for most players. GS #4 skill is our only defense against Thieves.

Please buff our damage or at least improve the pet mechanics.

Oathbound, thanks for your interest. I remember my Atari 2600 fondly and spent many hours on Asteroid and Space Invaders.

Looking for a small group of mature folks to enjoy the game with. I do a bit of everything, pvp, pve, exploration, jumping puzzles, wvw…etc.

No drama and no vent requirement please, although I will listen into vent if needed.

Thanks Kai. Tested it over the weekend and you have saved me about a hundred thousand key presses and hours of frustration.

All guides should be Lazy guides. Let me know if you do one for other classes. Thief, Guardian and Elementalist need one as well… hint, hint….
