You are in the same boat as us Veterans now, we got to pay for the game again to get the expansion. No other way!

On the bright side, 45 euros is not that bad considered that we don’t got to pay monthly

Whether or not we have to pay sub fees, It is still very bad of them to do something like this.
I only recently got a summer job so I won’t be getting and $ for a while, and even when I do, It is very hard to buy things online where I live. Not like I would want to waste an extra $50 anyway.

So my friends that bought the base game because I suggested they get into it before HoT are now giving me kitten about this. I wasn’t really on their side, but then one of them linked me this.

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/105801626-Guild-Wars-2-Heart-of-Thorns-FAQ

“Q: Do I have to own Guild Wars 2 to play the expansion?
A: Yes. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is an expansion to Guild Wars 2 and not a stand-alone campaign, and therefore it requires the base game to play.”

I’ll admit that there is nothing in the hard, 100% strict interpretation of these words that explicitly refutes the idea that HoT and the base game could be bought together, but when stuff like this is posted and all your HoT announcements are timed with a sale of the base game?

I’m not even going to get into whether $50 is “worth it” or whatever, but any way you look at it this is pretty dirty marketing ANet.

I got fooled by the same thing when they said that the base game is needed for the HoT expansion. Which gave me impression that I didn’t need to pay any extra $ or at least anything this hefty to play the expansion.

In fact what they DID say is “The base game will be required to play the expansion.”

The implication was that there was no reason to wait to buy.

Honestly, I don’t have a great amount of Leeway to complain about the pricing because I got it on sale for $20 and have been playing for nearly a year. Not a bad value, honestly.

You on the other hand, you were literally lied to and ripped off if you believed that line in the FAQ and bought the game within the last couple of months.

I actually remember seeing that part you quoted and I was like “cool! So i’ll get to understand the game a bit before the expansion”.

Well I do understand now….
I Understand that i’ve wasted my time and money if they really do nothing to fix this

What happens to the players who just bought the game for only a few weeks?
Since the only cheapest choice was the heroic edition, I blindly bought it for $40.

Why didn’t A-net post a notice to new players who wanted to get the game? Something like “Heart of Thrones is going to be released soon! Do you want to wait until it is released to reap the benefits of our special offers?” or something along those lines.

I feel scammed because I had no clue you had to buy it (sorry for being a long time f2p mmo player) and I had no warning that this would’ve happened.

And if nothing is done about it, even a good quick buck was made, the reputation damage would outweigh it imo.

I assume you’ll still be able to be part of a guild even if you don’t have HoT.

But probably at least the guild leader would need to get HoT to access the halls, idk.

You can still ask for a refund via a support ticket.

I don’t want a refund, I want justice (that sounded so corny)

But honestly, they can keep my 40, I just want to see that they try to do something besides make corny jokes on threads instead of keeping their players happy.

Oh @The Rice Hat Samurai, This isn’t my first MMO, played ALOT before. But all were f2p. I don’t really expect to pay nothing for this expansion, but I’d rather not pay a whopping $50 for the game+expansion when they just made me pay $40 for the game already.

Quick question, what happens if you don’t buy the expansion?

So, just bought the game a couple of weeks ago and was hyped for the expansion (since i thought it was free and I would’ve gotten it with the game anyway)

Well I was wrong about that.

So i’m on the verge of just dropping the game now, since it really makes no sense that they made me pay full price to buy the heroic edition (which was the cheapest they offered) and then trying to make me re-buy it and add an extra $10 for the STANDARD edition of the expansion.

And I finally just hit 80 and was having a lot of fun with the game too…
All I want is that if I have to get the expansion, I want to buy the expansion, not the game.

Also I find it very scammy that you allowed players to buy the game so close to the release of the expansion without letting them get the version with the expansion in the first place.

I just hope that something can be done about this, I want to play the game :/

Any way to cancel a personal story part?

Your post is kind of confusing because you said you left but got the mail (because you finished?) but he had go to work, so…. he left and you completed?

But anyway, if you were the instance owner and left before it was over and he could accept the next step then he needs to redo that section.

Well we were doing the quests together but it was late, so we went to bed and in the morning he had to go to work while i stayed home and just finished it up.

Well i’m 49 now but he’s 26 so when he hits 30 if the post above me is correct, it should work. Thanks for the help

So i’ll make this short:
Basically my brother and I was doing the personal story mode (20) together with me leading, he had a different choice but was still doing it with me. I left him before in the middle of the quest (he had to go to work and I am on college study break) and now he is at a part where he has to read a mail in his inbox but doesn’t have one.
I have the mail that he needs, but i have no idea what to do since he can’t go any further in the personal story since he doesn’t have the mail.

So is there any way to try to cancel that part and start over or at least a trick to re-send the mail?
Oh its the Liberation part (final part) of Shadows of the Past (part 2) of the personal story.
