As the title sums up… I have an i7 920 / 2.66 GHz and I’m using my stock fan to try play guild wars 2. Idle, the temperature is 45-50 degrees C, when playing guild wars 2, I’m hovering around 97-104 degrees C which I’m guessing is not where it should be! Guild wars 1, when I’m playing hovers around 54-58 degrees C.
I had the same problem with the same CPU until I installed nearly exactly the same cooler as shown in your link. (I have the predecessor) Now my i7 920 heats up to around 80°C at the max. When idle it’s about 30-40°C.
So get this cooler as soon as possible. It’s worth it!

I always use the RMB-mouselook to steer while moving around. And, as so many others in this thread, I sometimes eventually get my cursor (GW2 style) back and have to push the RMB again.
On the first few occurrences of this issue, I just thought I might have accidentally released the RMB. But at a point I became more aware of this problem. Every time my RMB is “released” I double check if my finger is still pushing the button down, and every time it is.
And now I stumbled across this thread, reading about other people with this very issue.
I hope it’s fixable rather sooner than later.
@everybody using two monitors: Try “Windowed Fullscreen”. This GW2 should not minimize when you accidentally click on the other monitor. So you can get back into the game much quicker.
For me (male), it’s a bit about aesthetics. My main character (my only one at the moment) is a female human thief. Why? Well, my thief should be agile, fragile and elegant. The female human fit’s this best. I tried several combinations during BETA already.
What characters are to come? I think it will be male charr engineer, male azuran elementalist, male human guardian, and a sylvari… maybe necro, or mesmer, but I think this will be a female plant.
I have a very long, unique and cryptic password for GW2 nobody can remember. I do this for most of my accounts all over the internet, using http://keepass.info/

I sort of liked it not being a personalized instance.
In the beginning, during my first try’s, I was about starting to hate the JP not being a personalized instance. But when I managed to get further by every try, seeing the jumping crowd growing smaller and smaller the higher you get, I started to feel good about it.
I mean, we knew before the first try, that the tower will drive you mad (maybe that’s why the Mad King became mad!?). It’s all about competition. To be better than others. To get to the top.
I did the tower only once. But the feeling being the only one who has reached the top was indescribable great. Perhaps I’ll visit the top of the tower again today.
I’m pretty sure it’s supply and demand driven. Some weeks ago I bought up to 1800 gems bit by bit for around 30-40 silver/100 gems. Yesterday I sold my gems at a rate of about 80 silver/100 gems. So I made about 12 gold from about 6 gold. Since I checked prices for several items in the BLTC, I frequently checked for the change rate gold<—>gems. And within about 15 minutes the rate fluctuated from 60 silver/100 gems and 70 silver/100 gems. Yes, ANet did implement an algorithm to set change rates. But in the end it is driven by supply and demand. I think when halloween’s over and no limited specials are available in the BLTC, the prices will drop a little.
After about one hour I finally made it to the top of this cursed tower.
Edit: Maybe I should add the fact that I did it around 7 AM (GMT) on Saturday, so only three or four other people were jumping around. It’s a lot easier when you are able to see where you’re jumping to instead of burying your face in the back hair of the charr in front of you.

On my NVidia GTX 580 GW2 runs at least 30 FPS, even with the advanced vertical FoV on 1920×1080.

I’ve got a likewise issue on my D/D Thief.
Dagger 1 has the “+7 power per kill” (stacks up to 25 times) and dagger 2 has the “+7 condition per kill” (stacks up to 25 times). But always only the icon for the +power is shown. And when I check my attack stats there’s only “power” growing by each kill, but “condition” is not. Switching the daggers (off/main hand) won’t help either. You might think after switching hands the “condition” stat will grow, and the “power” stat will not, but even then only “power” increases per kill, and “condition” gets no bonus at all. I just tried resetting the bonus by getting downed after switching my daggers/hands, but still there’s no bonus for the condition sigil. =(
32 and former WoW-player. Since I play GW2 since BETA I not even took a look on WoW:MoP. Well, my wife (29) just took a look on GW2, playing a level 2 elementalist, but upgraded WoW to MoP the other day.
Now, on WoW I got bored after two months, at the most. Often I got bored after three weeks or so.
On GW2 I’m not near getting bored after two months, playing only on char. I love GW2. And while I always lacked the fun in PvP, GW2 makes me PvP most of the time.
Did I already say, I love GW2?

So I’d love to get DX11 support in GW2.
Well, the graphics are already great. But imagine what tesselation and other DX11 features could do to improve this even further.
A three faction system works great in theory. It allows the two losing factions to gang up on the winning faction and act as a balancing system. In practice, this never happens in WvW.
Another problem is lack of practical lines of communication. It’s hard to stage a joint attack against the winning faction when you can’t express your intentions or make any sort of plans with the other losing faction.
Personally, I think it would be great if they added a WvW ‘Commander Chat’ function that came with the Commander Title. A sort of specialized channel where Commanders could plot and scheme with the other faction’s commanders. I think it would add a fun new layer to WvW, what with the possible subterfuge and backstabbing, while also giving more purpose to the Commander title.
On top of other fixes, you know?
In addition to that, there should be a way to forge an alliance (at least temporary) between the two loosing factions, so you will not accidentially AoE your allies in battle. The “Forge Alliance” could be made available depending on the scores of the three factions.
its so funny to read all the thiefs who play sword pistol / shortbow cause they not good enought to play meleethief and this game hates melee….. it always makes me laugh….. learn your class and you can do dagger dagger in pve even against bosses that hate melees …. oh and btw f1 is a must for thiefs that know their class …..
you’re so right! in the beginning of my career as a thief i’ve tried all available weapons, almost ignoring F1. the shortbow… well, never liked this. sword and dagger/pistol… don’t like it either. so i started using double pistol and double dagger as my favourite weapons.
for most of the time i used double pistols a lot more often than double dagger. however, as time, and levels, went by, i got more and more used to my daggers, and now i seldom use my pistols. and the more i did (and do) melee-fights, the more i use F1. and i love it.
in every MMO i used to play a ranged profession (mage). but the thief changed me. i just love to fight eye to eye (or back) with even a veteran. sometimes i even manage to kill a champion on my own ;-D
