Hold down/s (or up/w if the camera faces the character) when you do the HS, that’s all…
Never heard of a short HS. What’s the advantage to that? I can see a short DB to keep from falling off cliffs. Is it so you can leap finisher in fields without a target?
I think it’s for the black power HS combo spammers .

Reed my first post again…
We have a very weird mechanic there…
If your main hand weapon is a pistol, skills 1, 2 and 3 can trigger this effect.
It’s getting funny for the skills 4 and 5: if both your weapons are pistols, it works, if your main weapon is not a pistol, it dosen’t, even if your second weapon is a pistol.(More weird informations : all hits of the skill 3 are always considered as dealt with the main hand weapon. So for exemple if you have a pistol and a dagger, the dagger hit of Shadow Strike is considered like a pistol shot, so it’s affected by all the pistols traits except for riccochet)
If I can give you an advice, test this kind of thing by yourself in spvp with steady weapons. As you can see, sometimes it’s realy counter-intuitive .
Hope I was clear, still not confident with my english ^^
I don’t see what else I can do, you’re just repeating what I said :s
About the “weird” stuff, for us who knows how 3 works, it’s not weird I agree. For any people trying to guess how it works, it’s weird, because they see skills showing the character using 2 weapons, called “dual wield”, but only affected by one of the 2 weapons.
Yep I mixed up de “p” and the “d”, but I’m really focused on trying to speak a language I’m not used to ^^
You’re insulting my intelligence ^^ have you tested by yourself ?
I’ve used P/P ever since and have used Ankle Shots.
Yeah but I was talking about S/P or D/P ! It’s all my point !
I said “head shot dosen’t trigger ankle shot if your main weapon is not a pistol”, if you respond “it works with P/P”, you’re almost saying the same thing than me ^^
Headshot and black powder never trigger ankle shot if the main weapon isn’t a pistol.
(there is still the possibility that’s only true in spvp ^^)You have to prove that claim and in return, I will prove my claim also. Fair enough?
Can’t see how to prove it… do like me : go to hearts of the mists’ golems, and spam head shot with P/D, rampager’s amulet, agility signet and precision runes equipped and 30 critical art (74% crit chance)… after 10m of this without any ankle shot triggering, you can still argue it was bad luck :s
Dual weapon skills are main weapon skills.
Shadow Strike is a great exemple. This skill deal a dagger hit, shadowstep you backward, then deal a pistol shot. Both hits are affected by pistols traits like ankle shot or pistol mastery. And the traits dagger training doesn’t affect it at all. So it’s not weird for a mechanic point of view, but for a logic point of view, you see a dagger hit affected by pistol training. No, I see a “pistol skill” affected by “pistol” training.
Come on that’s my point again ^^
It’s a pistol skill, and ONLY a pistol skill.
Ok “dual wield” is a thing, but it dosn’t mean those skill use both weapons. It’s just a classification.
Really really hard to explain those stuff in english ^^
I think you did well.
ty ^^
Black powder does damage.
I’ve never seen it crit though.
Have you? If so, did it triggered Ankle Shots?
I left it out since it’s irrelevant how often you’d use BP to trigger Ankle Shots. :/
[/quote]
As I said, it can trigger ankle shot if the man weapon is a pistol.
My mistake. I was under the impression that dual-wield skills were treated seperately. So to clarify for me…
P/D #3 not affected by Ankle Shot?
D/P #3 not affected by Ankle Shot?
P/P #3 is affected by Ankle Shot?
3 is a main weapon skill.
So…
P/D or P/P : your main weapon is a pistol, it works.
D/P : your main weapon is a dagger, 3 can’t trigger the effect, even with the first hit.
Edit : this isn’t even an hit :s

Edit : Other good way to figure out that 3 is a main weapon skill : change your second weapon for the same type but with a lower lever, the skill damage will not be affected (if both weapon have no power)
I hope I didn’t make too much english mistakes ^^

Omg it’s bugged again. Stolen skills are normally considered as bundles, so the 10% bonus makes sense. But it’s really often bugged, then fixed, then bugged…
Maybe I’m just going mad…

It’s just pixel aesthetics, I don’t see the point in arguing about 8 or 16 bits… but the theme song is definitely in 8-bit.

For french people like me, bits concern are very funny because of the meaning of its homonym “bite”… ^^
ps : Remember this ?

“Kitten” ? ^^ Ok it’s fun.
I love when my enemy don’t understand what is happening, so there is some really rares builds :
Burst Axe/Axe(or maybe longbow) Greatsword Ranger + Condition/Heal/Stealth Pistol/Dagger Shortbow Thief
Extremely hard to kill and high damages, but kinda static… so it’s particularly effective in spvp but still useful in wvw. People usually try to kill the thief first, allowing the ranger to kick their kitten. If they’re smart and decide to kill the ranger first, save time with signet of stones, healing spring+cluster bomb combo (in the caltrops for more bleeds), shadow refuge if the ranger fall… it’s never ending…
Vulnerability Burst Guardian + Venom Sharing Dagger/Pistol Thief
Foes are often blinded immobilized and stunned. The thief’s Devourer Venom allows the guardian to apply 15 more stack of vulnerability and it’s easier for him to do a perfect Whirling Wrath.
My english speaking skills are terrible… was I clear enough ? ^^
Already posted 1 or 2 thief pics here :

My build for Light Up the Darkness was :
10 : III
10 : VI
0
20 : III, VII
30 : III, VI, XII
Shortbow
Withdraw, Signet of Agility, Assassin’s Signet, Scorpion Wire, Basilisk Venom
Mug, Long Reach and Sleight of Hand helps you to kill the orb with a little additional heal. Maybe Sleight of Hand wasn’t so crucial but you can stun in phase 2…
Fleet of Foot is obviously very useful in phase 2. If it’s in cooldown, Withdraw can cure cripple and Signet of Agility weakness, in this order.
Uncatchable cripples Liadri when she’s near to you.
You can stun Liadri with the venom even in phase 1.
The Wire allows you to quickly put clones in vortexes…
The 10 points in Critical Strike and the assassin’s signet are here to provide some dps. (With soldier armor and zerk jewelry, she was almost dead at the 7th crystal)
Don’t use too much initiative to dodge, infiltrator’s arrow is very usefull to pick up crystals, and you need cluster bomb to damage Liadri.
I hope I was clear enough, it’s the best I can do with my poor english skills. ^^
The story of my Thief…
My Sylvari / Cyborg hybrid thief with Incinerator and fused daggers.
Awesome !
(edited by Keth.1968)
Nice. I don’t see how… Maybe I should try other runes…
I’m going to guess this has something to do with getting lucky with “improvisation” and a crit on the final back stab…
I might try this out tonight.
Good luck.
Now we have to beat 4930. ^^
Just telling, I found a way to do better ^^
If I tell you how to do this, it’s not fun ^^ You have many ways to stack 25 might alone with a thief…
Cheating for what Oo It’s just a puzzle with nothing to gain… Well, maybe I’m too honnest… You can take a picture with normal weapons to validate…
I’m playing 30/30/0/0/5. You can find some clues about the traits in the screens. But it’s not an actually good build, its meaning is only to do a good backstab.
As you wish, but the first post is more interesting : there is no damage range with steady weapons.
Here’s a little game : build your pvp thief to do the highest possible damage with a backstab, pick up steady weapons, chose your favorite “Target Golem – Light”, and try to beat my score. Of course you have to do this alone.
PS : sorry about my terrible english speaking skills, we french people aren’t really good at this…
