Congratulations. Glad to see all these servers fall down the ranks while you gobble up the players and guilds in their wake. Tier 1… You earned it. When you fall back down, I am guessing we at Maguuma will give you special attention.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
In WvW, at least on my server, the guild is the server. Yes, we have many guilds on Maguuma, and yes they often work as a unit, but they also participate in the bigger picture. In our community guilds don’t override individuals, but no one is going to stop a guild from taking their numbers to achieve something on their own. In our WvW stage on Maguuma Commanders (and I don’t mean just the icon ones) transcend guilds, and our best commanders are followed regardless of guild affiliation.
Depending on the situation, guilds will accomplish individual goals, but as a whole we are the “Maguuma” guild. We pride ourselves on it in my opinion.
It’s all about perspective I guess.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
We at Maguuma have been greeting these server hoppers all week.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
Those of us that spend a lot of time in WvW and on Mumble are usually outnumbered. We usually aren’t with the pub group (unless we have a mumble commander leading them around with an icon) and we have adapted to fight mostly outnumbered. I think that is why we birthed the stack into our strategies. Maybe I am wrong, but that is my thought.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
I like stacking just because I like being really really close to my commanders.
It’s a tactic that has been employed in other games, so it’s not a new thing. Notice the majesty of how Maguuma does it though. As mentioned before, this isn’t one guild doing this, its whomever is in the fight. This is a coordinated purposeful action, with reason and intention, not a “this is the only way to survive” tactic. Some of our commanders are extremely effective using them for siege destruction, and morale busting.
I know a few of your guys at least have been “Holy kitten, there are ton of Mags right in the middle of us all the sudden!”
They are beatable though. Just not when we are doing it.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
I feel like Mag dropped the ball a little this week in terms of leadership not simply with victories, but with losses. We’re usually better at both, especially encouraging people after a lost fight, but this week there just doesn’t seem to be any follow up with either a victory or loss. Part of that is definitely on the population, as there are people and guilds who have provided leadership and tools to coordinate but neither is heavily capitalized on. I do however see a slowly growing core of guilds and individuals and I’ve seen some people from being new players to w3 to becoming solid group members so that’s still promising.
I’m sorry but its hard for me to stomach some of the things that are being said here and in team chat. We have alot of commanders out of commission this week due to personal issues. I was the sole commander in Maguuma Borderlands over Saturday and Sunday. I had 4 hours sleep over the weekend and we held our garrison for over 36 hours against an onslaught from PTX and ULTD. Those guys are seriously big and seriously good and they eventually took it.
It fell in the end because I was burnt out and getting a serious bout of tunnel vision. Theres nobody in North American timezone to hand the baton to. You do anything for 16 hours straight and you get tunnel vision. The strategic decisions leading up to the fall of the garrison were my fault and I do not blame any of the players who trusted me to do the right thing. I still have alot left to learn.
Despite this, over the weekend, Mag BL has been mostly blue. It has been consistently the only borderland with any blue dots for more than 2 hours. It is the only borderland that has hit a queue since the reset. I’ll keep doing this as long as I can but the only thing I ask is that you do not trash talk any of the commanders in public. Not Tzarasi, not Rocode, not Jerkjerk or Oprey or any of the other guys who put in the time to get us this far. That is the only thing I ask.
Thank you.
You guys kittening rock, don’t listen to any haters. Any of us that have spent any time with any the commanders you listed know what’s up. Even the best commanders can’t win every battle. You guys have won my heart though? Does that not count? For real, keep up the good fight, we will follow you.

Darkhaven vs. Northern Shiverpeaks vs. Maguuma (3 threads down- try a fourth)
in WvW
Posted by: Kiado.9362
Come on guys, we have to get to at least a 4th WvW post closed on here. These threads get boring when everyone is all nicey nice. Where am I supposed to PVP at work, if not on the forums?
Just kidding Anet! Keep it clean and kid friendly. Who doesn’t love a good forum overlord to make sure we are all nice and friendly to each other.

Shadowbane… where the real men learned to siege. Shout out to all the hardcore old-school shadowbizzle players from all of us at -x-.
Special love if you were ever a part of CS (Crime Syndicate), 187, or R30. (my old stomping grounds.)
The Shadow Legion also learned a lot of siege warfare from Shadowbane. I see this game being mentioned more and more…
Shadowbane was were real men went to PVP back in the day. Nothing like a 2 week long war to destroy the Aftermath Beta guild and their Northern Alliance buddies on whatever server I was on. I was co-guild leader of “The Shadow Empire”. I miss those days. Shout outs to anyone that played Shadowbane, and if any of you were from the server with Aftermath, the NA, Mad Cow Mercenaries, House of the Frog, House of Errants (coolest PK’s ever), etc please give me some love. Good times, and that game was kittening broken compared to this game.
Just get over the stacking. For Fooooks sake.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
This isn’t stacking. Shadowbane was stacking. The only way to prevent it would be to turn on collision detection for all player models. Do that, and you better hope you have a top of the line computer or you will just log out.
It’s a valid tactic, whether you like it or not. Join the party or learn how to beat it. End of story.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
Platinum gives you command of the zerg right?
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
I’m responding to a report that PvP happened? Is everyone ok?
I heard some players were whooped up on so hard that it caused their client to log them out. Can this be confirmed or denied?

OMG Goons! They must be cheating! Seriously. I play with these “Goons” and they are a good group of people. We have the most fun on Maguuma, and posts like these only make it more fun. I would say if there actions caused a bunch of people to log out because they don’t like to fight against adaptive strategy and coordination, that is even better than a respawn. That is assisting victory through denial of scrub players who log out.
Goons, can they be kittens, yes (but only if you are on the other team), do they sometimes have fun at others expense, maybe at times. Do they cheat, bot, hack, or anything else? kitten no. They are a huge part of the WvW community on Maguuma, I would fight with them, or SFD, any day over any of you other chumps.
All I see in this post is a tactic that was super effective, since it caused logouts.

Don’t go in expecting so much. If you aren’t 80, you aren’t going to hit like an 80 with gear. That doesn’t mean you can’t contribute in the slightest. Run a “Support” build type which most classes are capable of doing. It helps you by you helping your teammates. If you have a Warrior, whip out your banners and slap them down as much as possible. I also tend to take on duties such as running supplies for repairs and things like that since I am not quite 80. This is a team sport, so work within the team and you will go farther. Find out if your server has a mumble or teamspeak. This helps spread knowledge and WvW learning to whole new levels.

Done, and you said “$100 worth of Gems”. That’s a lot of Gems. Just send them to me however you want.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
What a kitteny time to be a developer for a video game. You build such an amazing creation of computing and code and all the crap that goes along with it, but no one is every happy. I won’t say their aren’t problems, but there has hardly been time to completely fix them, and fix them right. You want instant gratification and instant results from an extremely complicated system. Either have the patience to enjoy what a wonder you are walking around in, or move on to another one. You have the right to kitten as a paying customer, but to call it a total failure is ludicrous. I play nearly every night and enjoy it, despite the issues. Maybe the problem is everyone is so uptight and needs kitten now now now that nothing will ever satisfy you.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
Keep doing what your doing man. Having heart for your home server is more than most have.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
Two WvWers walk into a bar. One is from Maguuma, and one is from SoS. The Bartender asks them what they want to drink.
The Maguuma man says “Give me a beer. Today has been hard. We fight endless battle against endless enemies. We know not fear, we shall not falter, and we don’t know when to quit. It wears us down, but not out. Tomorrow we pick up our swords again to fight the endless fight, and leave our mark on this world. Real victory is in the legacy you leave behind, not the land that soaks up that blood.”
The SoS man says “Give me a wine cooler. Strawberry.”
Need more be said? Come have a beer with Maguuma, and enjoy victory and legend being built. Don’t be the guy holding the wine cooler.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
If there was a queue to any borderland in the last few days, it was for the one where we are all trying to join the Goons/SFD in having a good time. kitten I was just in voice chat listening to everyone at Ramalot last night, and I was cracking up. If you can’t beat em, kitten them the F off.
It was said before, and I will say it now. You want to see for yourself? Don’t believe what you are hearing? Transfer to Maguuma. You will never lack for opponents. We have excellent leaders, but they can’t pull soldiers out of their rears (at least not to my knowledge) and give you the fight you want. Most people hit “B”, see the score, and decide to do something else. The rest of us fight because its what we do, it’s fun, and we are still trying to have a good time.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
As a server, we Maguumaians have shown that we can dominate when the playing field is level. We just can’t match the numbers some of our opponents can produce. When we are all oiled up and working right, we produce PVP orgasms at times.
I personally hope our Pop stays at a medium level. Then people will know that Maguuma is made up of soldiers and scholars, and not just masses. We are currently fighting a land war in Asia if you will. We rack up the kills, victories, and do it all with style, but for every one of you SoS and FA kittens we run over, four replace you.
The Bugs/Hacking sucks, we all want to win the fight in legitimate manner. We should consider the first few months to be practice though. The WvWvW will only get better in my opinion. Things will be fixed, and match-ups will get better.
I personally just love a good battle. Win or lose, its the thrill of the fight. Proud Maguuma resident here.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
No one is ever satisfied. Beautiful maps for you to duke it out on.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
Everyone just needs to relax. There are issues, this is a fairly new game, and in the end it will all balance out for a really nice experience. That is my opinion anyways. I know that this is a “Give me what the hell I want right now” society we live in, but sometimes things just need a little time. The platform is in place to be a really cool setup, and it already is, and it will only get better.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
Since you obviously haven’t read this thread, I’m just going to mock you.
I would love to hear how you’re going guerrilla style while asleep, I’m taking supply camps, killing Dolyaks and lone wolves all the time. If I’m not doing that, I’m quickly helping out in defense.
On a more serious note:
There is NO problem at all in WvWvW, except for people living in other time zones and thinking it’s fun to all join a server where they’ll literally never see anyone except for the people from their own country. Australia is on the other end of the world (for EU) and there’s a lot of them playing on EU. When people come out of their bed to go to work in EU, they’re coming home from work and vice versa. There’s no reason for them to sit in EU, except to dominate WvWvW. US is a lot better for Australians, timezone wise.
Also: if I wanted to fight an unbalanced war, I’d go outside with a kitten hammer and try to defeat my country’s army with it. I play games to do what I can’t in real life: balanced internet battles.
I didn’t read the thread? What did I miss? Is this not another call for something to be programmatically fixed by the developers before it’s even had time to play out? What this thread is wanting is a fix to one server being stronger than another server at a given time because of the time zone the players that play in it are in.
Options? You can only join a server that supports your Time Zone? You only open the doors to WvWvW when it’s “peak time” for a certain set of servers? Those aren’t viable options.
The reality is, we have to wait and see how it plays out. I personally like the dynamic. If I wanted it to be balanced and fair and always based on the individual skill of a player, then I would play the more limited Group PVP.
The Pangolins Den [PANG]
This, to me, is just another attempt to take game balance and make it a game killer. What in the world makes you think that everything should always be equal? That in and of itself, as stated earlier in the thread, would lead to some really boring crap. You want me to go in and play WvWvW when everything is always the same? There is something to be said for the dynamics of it. There is a challenge to it that you can’t find with some sort of “ultimate balance formula” you are looking for.
You want to be the kid on the sports team who gets a trophy no matter what happens. The one who doesn’t want to feel the sting of losing or the satisfaction of winning. Why should the game protect you from defeat when someone has to be defeated for someone to win? Lets play Guild Wins, where everyone wins! F that, I want Guild “Wars”.
I want to suffer a defeat, so I feel satisfaction when I get a victory. I want to suffer defeat so I don’t think that I have the single answer. So that when I adapt a new strategy and I find it works, I again have that satisfaction of victory. You can’t understand that satisfaction if you don’t understand the bitterness of defeat.
You want it to feel fair and balanced all the time? No war, or even single battle, real or virtualized ever works that way. No one would of written the “Art of War” if there was no art to it, or it was always fair.
The latest round of servers in my WvWvW arena has put my server in the middle and even last at times, but we have been first, and will be first again. It’s a never ending eb and flow that I look forward to. Please don’t change it because a few people can’t handle defeat. Go Guerilla if you can’t take them by numbers. Take a supply camp, and a caravan, move away, and see if a small enough force comes to check it out that you can bring the fight to them. Pick off stragglers of the zerg and use your smaller force to sweep an area quickly and keep on the move. What’s the worst that will happen? Respawn and pay a couple of dimes for a repair? Waa. Should have played games like UO, Shadowbane, or even DAoC to realize how easy on the pain this game really is.
