Im currently leveling a thief and run mostly P/P since I like the way it looks and usually 2 unloads does the job on normal mobs. I also use S/P for killing vets or higher since blind+auto attack makes it easy mode.
I’m leveling my thief =(
Berserker is still broken but there were some nice improvements.
Mesmers don’t start to shine til after lvl 40.
I can’t even count how many times I have fought a thief and get him down to 20% before they burst me down. Then in my downed state I’ll stack the confusion and summon phantasm and get the win.
Using GS I open up with berserker then mirror blade and shatter. This usually does enough damage in the roughly 3 secs it takes to tag enough mobs for loot. It would be nice if mind stab had a bigger target area though.
I leveled with GS mostly and sword/pistol occasionally. Just stack power + precision with it.
What would the odds be of getting MH pistol and some sort of viable AOE with it?
I use the same build for everything atm. In dungeons i’ll change out my utilities as needed.
20(V, X)-15(II)-0-15(IV)-20(III, X)
Weapons: GS and Sword/Pistol
Most of the time my skills are skills:
ether feast
Feedback
decoy
blink
mass inv
For gear I focus on Berserker/rampager gear (Power and Precision). This build is mostly glass cannon but I seem to survive quite well thanks to the utility spells.
I usually start out summoning iDuelist and swapping to greatsword before the combat cd comes into play. Then #2 and #4 and sit back watch em die. Add a feedback if needed to burn down faster. For long fights I’ll summon as needed to keep phantams up or atleast 3 illusions to give me the 9% boost. I only shatter if I know it will kill them or need the distortion to escape.
I’m with you on it being annoying. My team was up 400-100 and it rebalanced me to the losing team. Theres no way a team is going to catch up from that far down.
What are everyone’s thoughts about our grandmaster traits?
Personally I think they are horrible and can’t justify putting points into them. I currently use GS and Sword/Pistol as my weapons and focus my build mostly around phantasms. Our utility skills are way better options than running a mantra build. If shatter was better I think the create shatter effect on self would be good. Also the heal/condition removal on shatter would be fine if I could say shatter was worth using.
I’m just curious what everyone else is thinking and what changes could be made to improve them.
The fastest way I burn down a mob atm, is start out with pistol offhand. As you get close summon iduelist then switch to GS and use #2 then #4. You can through down a feedback first for extra oomph but its not always needed. At about 1/4 health which doesnt take long Mind Wrack and poof they’re dead.
Atm I mainly use greatsword with the flame aoe gem. I have a high crit rate and it procs quite often allowing me to down your average mob pretty quick. Also greatsword is a great weapon for kiting like xerukm says.
I'm seeing a lot of sadness about Scepters. Here's a 101 on them if it's a weapon you've never really used.

Since shatter is so underwhelming atm I can’t stand scepter. I hate that if I want to use my pistol offhand and still be ranged i’m forced to use it or have to swap weapons and deal with that cooldown. I prefer to get 3 phantasms up for boss/long fights and keep them up, but with scepter if im not careful it will replace a phantasm with a clone. If shatter was worth anything more than a final blow I wouldn’t mind as much. I’m still holding onto hope we might get pistol mainhand so I can have a ranged weapon that won’t auto replace my phantasms.
Celerity and training recharge traits do stack but I believe the tooltip is still bugged where it doesn’t show that it does. If you test it though you will see that it indeed stacks.
