The 10/1 build should reset players who skipped forward back to the “Choose your order” step (which varies by race), though it’s a code-side change so I don’t know any details beyond that.
Thanks for the update, I have been stuck here for over 3 weeks now. Hopefully this will resolve my problem and allow me to continue my personal story.
And if they ever needed to take the authenticator offline for one reason or another,
you would be prime target for someone to get to during that time.The two tier authentication is two tier for two reasons, not everybody uses it and secondly because if one of those fails
the second will prevent intrusion.
Since we do use this at work, I can say we have never had a failure in the second tier resulting in having to
only use password authentication. So I don’t buy into your argument.
Your link btw is totally useless, passwords are intended to be memorized not written down or stored in a browser, most people will not memorize even one password of that length let alone multiple.
This is not accurate we are discussing passwords that are the safest to use. If you use a different password for
every site you login into and they are not variations of a primary password after a while you won’t
remember all of them.
So you will need a password program to remember them and then these passwords do make sense.

Also, storing your password in a browser in the worst thing you could ever do.
If you want the most secure password you would use the maximum allow amount of characters in a very random order using techniques on this site: https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm
I prefer something that is easy to remember with an authenticator as it is even more secure.

Actually, it does make strong passwords less relevant as it’s not the only point of failure.
I am fine with an optional solution not a required one. Also, I am willing to pay a small fee for an authenticator even if others are not. I do have a smart phone and a free app could be released for that which would also work.
You can do it with World of Warcraft already. I played the game for several years with my wife’s name as my password and an authenticator linked to my account. I never got hacked and never was worried I would.
Currently bugged on Darkhaven even after last night’s rollback.
Just to let you know my ticket was closed a second time and this problem is still not resolved. My ticket has been open since 9/6/2012. I would really like to get a resolution on this problem as my wife and I still cannot play together on our personal stories.

Honestly the easiest solution to this whole thing is to allow users the ability to purchase a simple authenticator; this would mean their dictionary based password doesn’t matter much. It wouldn’t take much code to add the second phase to the login process as we have done this at work. This would make the account much more secure than creating larger passwords and requiring passwords to change on some frequency of lunar rotations.
I know I would feel much better having an authenticator on my account as a second level of security.

I would like to hear an update on this as well, as I experienced the bug about 2 weeks ago now. I think my wife and I are about level 65 still waiting to do our level 30 quests together once this bug is fixed. This is assuming it does get fixed. I can’t see how this isn’t getting more priority.
Furthermore, if I had not had the curiosity to check the support portal, I would have not known it had been closed recently. This is because unlike most support portals, theirs does not seem to give you an email entailing that “the support ticket you opened has been closed”. It wasn’t closed on their previous response, it was closed some time after that response (a response that was more or less generic, and no it wasn’t the beginning generic response that asks for a reply, we had gotten past that point).
This leads me to believe that many people who issued support tickets about this might have their issue closed as well, and should log in and open them because the issue has not been fixed. They have no way of knowing an issue still exists if it is closed, and thus no way to help you with your character because you basically do not exist on the list of things to do unless that support ticket is open. This is how Linden Labs operates, and I am -very- familiar with the process.
I haven’t been using my character or leveling it because of fear that the fix will be an optional rollback on the characters which are effected. If thats the case, I’d lose more of my time.
I have not bought gems or done dungeon runs on that character because I have no clue whether their solution might be to delete it because it is bugged and thus could corrupt the system further.We have been waiting for the greater part of a month for this to be fixed, and I believe this issue should be recognized and discussed in one of the official bug/state of the game/patch posts on their end. That way people who have the bug but might not have necessarily checked the forums and understood how to get help properly will know to post in this thread and post a support ticket. I am sure this thread is not the extent of the people effected because I find it relatively easy to find people who have this problem elsewhere.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. My support bug report was also closed in the same exact method as you described well after the response from the GM that says it was being looked into with high priority well over a week ago. I have re-opened my as I have not had any resolution on this problem.

My wife and I are ready to continue our personal stories already. By the time this gets resolved I will most likely be 80 and that will be pretty lame.
It doesn’t give an eta on a fix, i need my character fixed asap.
1. Character affected: Tengi
2. Character grouped with and not affected: Ziranya (also the group leader)
3. We both have been doing the personal story together since the start of the game.
4. We were both on the step called: The Trap
5. This is where my personal story screwed up and went to step: Suspicous Activity (48)
6. Ziranya personal story correctly went to step: Stealing Secrets (i don’t know the quest level)
7. As the leader Ziranya picked Order of Whispers, as I was not able to pick as I was not the leader. This the point it did seem to screw up or right after this.

This happened to me last night what kind of a bug is this? My wife was the group leader and hers advanced correctly and mine to the level 48 mission and we were doing the Stealing Secrets when it happened. Can my characters quest line be corrected? This is really irritating.
This bug appears to be due to grouping to do your personal quests with another person.

This bug seems to be directly related to group with other people while doing your quests and you are not the leader of the group.

Post stickied post says this is fixed but it is not. This just happened to me last night I was grouping with my wife working on the same steps of our personal story and hers worked and my jumped from a level 30 step to 48. I find this to be pretty unbelievable as a bug at this point in release. I hope my personal story quest line gets updated to the correct point. I should not have had bad character data as we were working on the same steps of the story line the whole time.
Related to the above issue, if you were playing in a group to get past some of the stories blocked by bad character data, the only fix was to restore your character and advance you to Chapter 6.
Note: For the above issues, we’ve fixed the bug that causes them so they shouldn’t happen any more, but some characters might be bugged and have to reset by going to Lion’s Arch. Players who completed the battle for Fort Trinity pre-fix may experience some weirdness with it losing track of the story track they were on.
While this bug is fixed, we can’t retroactively set you on the correct quest steps, rewrite your journal, etc.
