I feel that Guild Wars 2 is old enough that the devs should have some significant data on the types of builds that see actual play in GW2. What I would like to see is have the devs look at what skills aren’t being used by players and find out why. I love how many different ways you can build a character, but I still can’t help but notice that there are certain traits I have never used or had any desire to use. Basically what I’m getting at is, while there are technically 12 traits for each of the 5 disciplines, there are really only 3 or 4 traits that I would ever actually use for each of the disciplines. This is really disappointing and makes me feel kind of cheated when I think about it. Find ways of making the useless traits more desirable to players. There are only so many weapon sets for each class. If a trait doesn’t have synergy with any of the current weapon types for that class, it’s obviously not going to see much use. For instance: the warrior’s trait Vigorous Focus. There is no reason for anyone to ever need to use that trait. Stances are designed essentially to make you not need to dodge attacks. If you can gain stability and invulnerability, why do you need to waste time dodging when you should be going man-mode on whatever you’re up against for the those few seconds? If anything, that is the opposite of synergy. And while you’re at it, try doing the same thing with skills too. If there are certain skills that aren’t being played, there is probably a good reason. What makes character creation fun is choice, and the harder the choice, the more fun it is. Don’t be afraid of giving the players more of what they want.
