Ugh, what a pain to read this. WoW and Warhammer, yea there are two games worth comparing to… WoW rogue was nerfed into oblivion and was the reason I left the game altogether, I could never tell what the game was going to be like at any given time. A lot of “balancing” going on that will NEVER please everyone. The vitriol spewed on the Blizz forums regarding stealth completely invalidates much of the arguments people here use as it being a better system. Warhammer? Are you kidding me? I see how much people enjoy such a wonderfully balanced game these days, oh wait…
And now GW2, thieves are being excluded from dungeons and pretty much have to go to WvW to play the game – but people whine and complain that they do. So if you people weren’t such kittens about dungeon groups, you wouldn’t have a lot of them in WvW.
One fyi as well, stealth classes are supposed to take advantage of you when you are vulnerable, otherwise the encounter is in YOUR favour. If I run into a mesmer or a warrior and they know I’m coming, it doesn’t look so good for me.
My first 80 was a thief but I currently spend most of my time playing my 80 Guardian and I have to say I’ve seen the problem from the other side. Many times our group was getting harassed by a lone thief who was just uncatchable. He wasn’t able to kill anyone but it was frustrating not being able to lay some consistent damage down before he disappeared again.
I really want to see the thief be a viable class which isn’t nerfed to obscurity but something needs changing, if only culling.
Wait, so in WvW you are being harassed, not killed, by a lone thief and want to nerf the class so a group to which the thief poses no real threat, has an easier time catching and killing? Do I have that right? It’s no longer about balance, it’s about the annoyance factor? If that is the case then I for one have a laundry list of things classes do that I think are annoying and want nerfed too.
The thief is supposed to be a slippery class, otherwise the class wouldn’t be called thief. The name implies some sort of getting away with it, thieves that get caught all the time are called convicts.
This is the situation. I’ve agreed with the notion that there are things within this particular class that need to be looked at. I personally do not want to see this class get a big nerf.
Now whatever it is you are overcompensating for you can just stop. I can tell you that your comments above are why most people are going to write you off. You can’t just insult a group of people (or just one person) and expect them to actually listen to you. I think you are wrong in your opinion and you think I am wrong in mine however you’ll never have a productive conversation if all you do is belittle people to …make yourself look better (i guess that is why you do it). Next time you think you have something great to say you should stop and think before you post. Also, make sure your comments are pointed at the right person – I don’t think this post was meant for me in all actuality.
By the way – with all the hatefulness you are expressing I just wanted to point out to you that this is a video game forum. Please consider getting a little perspective on life before angling negativity to other people.
Taking yourself a little too seriously there bub? Can’t hack some smack talk? Oh well, I guess we should nerf writing styles too, that’s a good idea. Can you put out a style guide? Can you also help clean up government decorum and professional sports teams as well? They have filthy mouths with all those verbal exchanges.
Ever hear the term “give an inch, and they take a mile”? A few tweaks here and there is a slippery slope, but I’m sure you do not care at all, as long as your concerns are dealt with. But what about people that don’t like the bouncing arrow? or the initiative system? the skill trees? the venoms? the caltrops? If everyone’s concerns are just as valid as yours there will be no class left to play. Do you even understand that? I say learn to play because that is what a game is about. You seem to think I am hateful here when I am just enjoying myself and the challenges the game presents. Who knew that all I had to do when I encounter a tough mesmer is complain on the forums to let me win. The fact that you are unwilling to rise to the challenge makes me wonder why you play these types of games at all. Single player games are designed to have you win them but I suspect you need the ego rub more that the gameplay.
Yes I am protectionist, but after seeing what happens to games when this sort of discussion gets taken too seriously and ruins the entertainment value, I have good reason to suspect your fairy-dusted words of “fairness”.
Hyper-defensive as you are, I still got a nice laugh out of your severity. You take yourself and this class too seriously. Facts are facts. The class needs tweaking.
It’s not being hypersensitive bub, you nerfers are the one whining and moaning about “imbalance” and crying like 5 year old girls with skinned knees. I’m getting a little tired of this entitlement attitude players have, because its blatantly obvious you are plain lazy.
Myself, I see a situation and get owned a few times while adjusting my playstyle and end up being a better player because of it. I engage in active critical thinking, something which I am guessing you read as too many big words put together. Each class has its pros and cons, as a thief I enjoy mobility and dps yes, but the mesmer is regarded as the best 1v1 class in the game. Ele’s can knock out siege in a way nobody else can, hunters have meatshields, Necros can lay waste to a confined zerg pretty easily, mesmer mobility is highlighted in the EB JP, etc etc. Getting the picture Champ? Sorry if you think losing means the other guy is OP’d, ever stop to think this might not be your game if you can’t sack up and improve?
I wonder if you are a thief talking about ‘easy buttons’. That would be interesting.
Really?
Thank you for providing such a perfect reply to my post. Completely removing any sort of personal responsibility and placing the fun of the game, or lack thereof, entirely on the shoulders of a single class you feel plays the game in an unfair way.
And yes, I play a thief. But also a mesmer, guardian, and elementalist, but please, continue to throw excrement like a child and avoid having to rise to any sort of challenge presented by the game.
You may think your post was in jest, but it still proves my point beautifully. You feel cheated and feel the the thief class should be handicapped. In order to improve your gaming experience you are calling for someone else’s to be reduced, how noble of you.
I have a really simple solution for the people that seem to have rage all over thieves or anything else that they find challenging.
I propose a difficulty adjuster, so if you encounter an enemy, whether player or npc, you can just adjust it to easy and finish the fight in sweatless style. Getting frustrated with a jumping puzzle? Easy button and there is a path straight to the end! Levelling? Bah, easy button bumps you to 80 while you leisurely enjoy a cup of camomile tea. You too can remove any challenge in GW2 with the easy button!
Any thoughts on how your ideas would impact PvE? Didn’t think so.
Hate to break it to you pal, but endless zergs is less than enjoyable for many people. I need something to break it up, because as elite as commanders think they are swarming from one supply camp to another is, it gets real old real fast. Jumping puzzles, npc camps, and other stuff let me do something that requires a modicum of thought for a few minutes before back to mindless zerging.
1. What is an esport?
2. Why is it important gw2 is one?
3. Why should I care?
Great Idea, let’s nerf the thief because of a few awful players not being able to counter them. Come to the message boards and ask for nerfs that would not only make their lives easier but also seriously hamper pve abilities. I know you want to win against everyone with no effort whatsoever, but you are wanting to completely ruin an entire gaming experience for a class because of your rage over wvw/pvp frustrations. What about all those thieves that dont play any pvp at all that are going to find themselves unable to be viable in pve because you want to essentially remove them from the game? If you want balance try something else, because nobody plays this game the same, period. There will always be someone that can beat your strategy, that’s why you have to adjust your playstyle. But no, you can’t evolve at all and scream for a nerf, not just one, but reams of them, from stealth, to damage, to healing, to steal, to backstab, to daggerstorm, to condition removal, etc etc etc.
How about we remove all classes from the game and everyone has just one. No customization allowed for anything but completely cosmetic reasons, maybe just a colour difference only. Everyone has to be the same size, come from the same starting locations, do the same quests, and get the same equipment. Aw heck, let’s just have online Pong, that’s the only way it will really be balanced but you are sooo going to complain if you can’t win that game all the time too. Right side is OP!! NERF!!
Dear ANet,
I want you to nerf all classes but mine. I want you to remove portals from mesmers, stealth from thieves, and pretty much anything else that my class can’t do that makes me playing more difficult in pvp/wvw.
I should be able to see all players at all times, so remove stealth and put a big bright beacon on top of everyone’s head that will show through objects as well, I don’t think you should be allowed to hide around corners or walls. Damage should instantly remove any sort of buff too, because honestly, how realistic is it to take damage and not have everyone know about it. We need to make everyone like a 5 year old girl that cries when she falls, its so unrealistic to believe I can be in pain and not have everyone know about it with frikkin’ numbers popping off the top of my head.
No more tp arrow, no more healing in stealth, no more C/D, more more bouncing arrow, no more backstab, no more cool thief fashion, no more names I don’t like, no more guilds I find annoying, and I should be the only one allowed to use siege equipment. Seriously, who let just anyone use such overpowered equipment? I really am the only one with enough skill and deep understanding of the game to use it.
…
Hey, whiners, thieves aren’t supposed to be all honourable and easy to win against – or they would be called Santa’s Angels instead of theives. Thieves have lumps of skills that are designed to make them hard to catch and kill, its sort of a defining feature. I’m sorry you can’t kill them easily, but I’m also pretty sure thieves are annoyed they can’t kill you as quickly as people here seem to complain about. It’s not /faceroll to beat any class with any other class, some are easier for other classes than others, myself I personally hate mesmers and warriors, but am I on here whining and complaining? No, I’m trying to adjust my playstyle and get better because its a challenge. What ever happened to trying to get better? You people are expect a totally level playing field in every way – go play Pong, seriously, that’s the only way its going to happen. You probably whine while playing Tetris that the other player gets too many straight 4 blocks than you.
People are supposed to struggle against adversity, its what has made humanity so successful. I’m sure the cavemen where pissed sabertooth tigers could kill them easier without ZOMG OP FANGS – they figured it out, pwnt them, and invented the internet.
It says a lot when 2 servers have to join up to take you down, SBI must be doing something right. I suppose as long as you keep doing it you are just showing you can’t win on your own, but that’s ok for SBI to know I guess, a good ego boost for them. Oh yea, it’s a brilliant tactic, for cowards. Maybe next time you can do it on your own, without the training wheels.
Kudos to you on the point total … LOL
I’ll take Jumping to Conclusion for $1000 Alex.
Relax people, the content isn’t even out yet so you have no idea how it will affect gameplay. For all you know the new armour could transport you to a cave in Rocky Mountains where other conspiracy theorists gather to discuss the faked Moon landings.
