I challenge you to find another class that has more control than a staff or d/d elementalist.
Mesmer?
I can kill any class in 1v1 besides:
Mesmers – I have about a 30-40% win rate against them.
Guardians (Hammer Spec) – I have about a 20-25% win rate against them.
Warriors – I have about a 50% win rate against them.
Don’t lie to me.
What do you think is going to happen when the people you are supposedly going 1v1 against, and ‘killing,’ suddenly get equal gear to what you have?

What i see here is a very very good player.. Nobody on that battlefield reacts as quickly and decisively as you are.. Simply nobody else really is always on the move while still casting complicated stuff (With emphasis on being a hard target to hit)… But the elementalist is not changing the battles still.. She’s just another player on the field in terms of affecting the outcome…
Yet a similarly quick warrior can destroy groups of people and change the battle with similarly clever play-style…
Most people here are not saying elementalists are unplayable.. It is playable, and when played optimally it is just as effective as any other average joe playing another profession… But this means: it is subpar…
And this build/playstyle is one of the optimal ones.. Scepter (with being mediocre at eveything, but able to do everything an elementalist can possibly do with some support/dmg/cc) is optimal if you want to use every aspect of the profession… Conditions simply melt the elementalist and you have taken care of that.. Vs direct damage you simply keep mobile by your own timing/fast reaction skills… You rarely go solo, which would exhaust your defensive options quickly, instead you use your less mobile companion as bait, by being a harder target than him/her..
So the choices are more than ok… But i don’t see the “what the hell is she/he doing, this is great” outcome, which is the case with other skilled players doing all the right things with their non-elementalist professions… The outcome should be better than this is most people here are saying…
And when you consider less-skilled people trying to emphasize some aspect of the elementalist instead of trying to cover its obvious weaknesses.. You get an unplayable profession… Which is not the case with half-of the other professions (I cannot think of warrior build that i cannot possibly do anything useful with).. The other half has less unplayable builds than elementalist..
I have to say, I totally agree.
All of you “L2P” kids need to look at more than just PVE. You think that because you can AOE 5 mobs at once then elementalists are fine? That doesn’t take any skill. PVE mobs are a joke that run straight at you and act predictably. What does that have to do with SPVP/TPVP? Elementalists are seriously underpowered in SPVP/TPVP. They were nerfed down to the ground. We’re just asking for some damage boosts since afterall we are supposed to be glass cannons. Anet forgot to add the cannon part. I can do more damage in 3 seconds with my thief than I can do in 10 seconds with my elementalist. Is that fair? I know the class inside and out better than most of you “L2P” kids. They are broken. Try any other class in PVP and you will see.
I watch a lot of video’s like kryos’ trying to get in my head that the class isn’t weak, but even brainwashing myself isn’t working. Seriously, I do not feel that weak, yes we can kill things DECENTLY. The problem I have is how easy other people do it. I watch my wife play her ranger and I worry about what this character will be like at 80 if I’m having to use a ton of buttons now.
Fight a ranged creature in an open area and yourkittennear SOL. (Even though i remedied that a bit with a focus)
So, reading these forums is very discouraging. I came here to see if everyone else felt the same way about elementalists as I do. As i read the forums i see a ton of over exaggerations in EVERY direction. I will throw this out there, My character is only about level 40. I have a similar level of a few other classes (a little lower, though) and because this class is really fun to play, regardless of how i feel about the damage, I play the elementalist. This class is very hard to play, I can say that. The thief is pretty hard to play, but only because they take similar damage. On the other hand, it is easier for them to put out damage. For the elementalist it is a challenge on both fronts. We are often running for our lives AND having to do quite a bit of work to do on par damage as other classes.
With that:
I have tried to mess around with attunements; i fixed my traits so that i have more in arcane and IT WAS HUGE HELP. However, I am still under powered. Not that much, mind you; only a little.
L2P me:
While i do think we are A LITTLE under powered (even if I do master the class), I would like to think I still have room for improvements. I have been doing a bit of experimenting with attune swapping and messing with conditional damage and direct damage.
I like to use S/F for the protection and conditions. I would like to stay with this since it has been working. I have messed with a few things and it just works. I will try whatever, though. I am pretty good at the game and anything you suggest to me I am willing to try. So feel free to put something here; even if it’s just an idea or a theory, I’d be up for it.
I would like to know what works for everyone else. What rotations they use within the attunements specifically.
I think everyone needs to stop arguing about the profession as a whole and stick to the title of the thread. If you don’t agree that it’s too much effort to do the same damage as almost all other classes then you’re likely an idiot. The bottom line is i shouldn’t have to put in X amount of APM over everyone else.
It’s likely more noticeable because the “lifesaving” attunements don’t save our lives and we have to rely on our evasion just as much as a more nimble profession.
One thing I noticed (and discouraged me incredibly while leveling) is the scaling seems to fluctuate a lot. Around level 25-35 I felt ridiculously week and then it started going back up again beyond that.
The only thing i can say is, if we are going to have to play the profession like this then at least make it rewarding and not just ‘on-par’ with other classes.
