1. Roleplaying is encouraged through community efforts rather than the developers attempting to hint or encourage RP through certain realm labels. Encouraging roleplaying would open more playstyles, immersion, and also give people a chance to develop their character.
Role play has never been truly encouraged or supported by this game. They did it no favors when they megaservered not only the PvE maps but also the cities. It took years for them to add a few new emotes. Requests to add a role play chat or to decrease the reach of /say chat have gone unanswered as have requests for such things as a chair to sit on or a mug to drink from (items that could be sold in the gemstore to help recoup the cost of designing them). Their attitude towards role play can be described as benevolent indifference, where they neither actively support nor go out of their way to hinder. I don’t see them changing this as it seems they do not find role play to be of value. I think they are short sighted in this attitude as role play gives people something to do and a reason to log on for long periods of time.
ANet may give it to you.
I wish this game had a model viewer/machinima tools. I’d love to try making a story about a faction of Charr that can’t be done in-game.
I watched this recently and honestly I cant say hes wrong. One of the biggest issues lately is that while GW2 has been reletively successful and decent, the lack of information about each episode and indeed the upcomming expansion is not generating hype or interest but loosing it.
He has a fantastic analygy in this: A-net taking us to a surprise birthday party with no information about what we are getting or when were getting it only that we will see when we finally do. Honestly the idea that we will see things when they arrive is a nice thesis but a terrible delivery. We need hype, we need something to look forwards to.
I recommend a short 20 second teaser every 2 weeks building up to the launch of episode 5 and 6, small snippets we can get excited about and get ideas for, aswell as for the next expansion, maybe a small 1 minuate trailer of specific zones/teasers every month.
Just something to get us interested.
Right now, that lack of hype is not helping GW2, even if GW2 has been doing decently, ive noticed a massive drop in players recently and its because everyones only here for 2-3 days of new content, followed by leaving until the next big thing comes out.
In case someone else will someday make a mini game and ask the same questions to the community management (it arrived shortly after the launch of the contest), i finally received an answer that i share here with you:

Hello,
In answer to your question about proper copyright notatations, I noticed from the image you provided in the forums that your comments include information beyond the copyright notification. Because copyright notifications are legal matters, they generally are very straightforward. They do not contain details such as how long the project took, who did (or didn’t) support it, or other things of that sort. You might include such notes elsewhere, perhaps as a personal note about the creation of the game, but such commentary does not belong in copyright notes.
What you should focus on is a straightforward statement that (1) you made the app, (2) it’s unofficial, and (3) it’s based on our work. With that in mind, the following should be fine:
This unofficial application was created by Serge Billault. All Guild Wars 2 content © ArenaNet, LLC.
If you would like me to review anything else, kindly include the verbiage in your correspondence rather as an attachment. I am unable to open attachments for security reasons.
Thank you for asking about this and I wish you well with the development of your project.

Hi.
I am ready to release a free, non commercial, gw2 mini game application
destined to the community that use some 2D guildwars assets:
- some skills icons
- the target HUD medalion
I have been informed that:
- I must include in the content the appropriate ArenaNet copyrights
- Declare that this game is not affiliated with ArenaNet
As such, i have redacted the required informations that are visible
in-game (see attachement), and need to know if it is acceptable in its
current form. If not, i would need to know what changes i must apply to
the text according to your rules.
Regards
When I’m on my work computer almost every advert I see is either for GW2 or for the organisation I work for, because I don’t think any of the other sites I visit advertise. Yay for algorithms!
Other than that adverts do pop up occasionally. But advertising is expensive, especially advertising on TV or in print media, and only actually effective in the short term. If the same adverts stay up too long it just becomes background noise, people stop paying attention. So most companies only advertise when they have something new to sell (or when other factors make it a good time to do so, like gyms advertising in January when everyone’s so sure they’re going to start their new year’s resolutions).
GW2 is in a bit of a quiet phase at the moment. Yes there’s a lot going on for existing players, but at this point regular updates are expected for MMOs and not generally something that draws in new players. They’ll probably ramp up the advertising when the next expansion is released, especially if it follows the HoT model and includes the base game and HoT because then it gives new people a reason to be interested and not put off by how much they’d have to buy.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
This is pretty good! Definite +1 from me.
One thing that might be good to add though…
Never, ever, ever while you are role playing should you feel unnecessarily compelled or forced into something you are not comfortable with.
This might sound like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people… especially those that are just starting to try and roleplay… feel like they are obligated to go along with things, even if they don’t feel comfortable with it.
As a random example, lets say someone emoted that they suddenly grab you and drag you into a nearby alleyway…
You are under no obligation to follow through with that unless you want to. Nobody is allowed to do anything to your character unless you allow them to.
Which leads to another very important part of roleplaying… attempting to do something, rather then just doing it.
What this means is, simply put, you can attempt to try and do things to another player, but that doesn’t mean it will succeed…
Lets use the above example in two different emitted posts…
Player 1 reaches out and grabs Player 2, instantly wrapping his hands around their neck and covering there mouth before dragging them into the shadows of the nearby alleyway.
Player 1 quietly slips out of the shadows, attempting to get behind Player 2 and reaching to try and slip an arm around their neck and cover their mouth! If successful, he then tries to pull them back into the shadows of the alleyway before anyone else notices…
Notice the difference?
In the first one, Player 1 doesn’t give Player 2 any chance to react, and acts like his actions are just going to automatically succeed.
And that’s really not good roleplaying and in truth, not a lot of people enjoy having someone else try and take control of their character taken away from them.
The second pose was better, showing Player 1 /attempting/ to try and grab Player 2, and not just assuming they are going to succeed. This gives Player 2 a chance to react or go along with it as they want.
In short, be courteous and respectful to your fellow RPers out there.
