Ascended gear might well be the only new tier to be introduced by ArenaNet in Guild Wars 2, ever. The infusion slot upgrades will be the answer for new content. New mob conditions requiring new infusions… all you will need to change (not upgrade) will be these infusions, depending on the dungeon you want to be running.
The extra stats will of course be wanted by all of the players in the game, but since Exotics are so easy to attain by level 80s, Ascended will be that little mountain players have to climb to truly be end-game.
TL;DR There won’t be a gear treadmill, only a one-time climb to reach true end-game with infusions used as specific attunements for specific dungeons. Want to go back to old content? Back to old infusions it is.
Has it been reminded that ArenaNet didn’t actually write either article? Today’s news was a sneak-peek provided by other companies…
If it was some sort of easily fixed misunderstanding, why are we on page 33 waiting for a blog post?
Because ArenaNet is not to be held responsible for something they did not write. Also all this turmoil happened the same day the news was released. We might get some news before the 15th, but having to wait until the new build is actually released is reasonable too!
So then why are they endorsing it if it’s wrong? You would think that if the information was wrong, ANet would be the first to correct it. But they are suspiciously quiet…
The articles don’t explicitly state a gear grind is being introduced. I am going to buy myself a cake if the Ascended gear’s “extra” stats are unrelated to the existing stats & only affect some new PvE mechanics!! Or what if Ascended is the only new tier they intend on adding ever. People are stomping and shouting before they know of any solid, written by ArenaNet facts.

ArenaNet linked to the Massively article on their Facebook, so they’re endorsing it.
They are only letting people know that the interview was done and that there is news. Just like everyone wanted. If they were to be responsible for the wording, it would be posted on their own website, just as it will be in 3 days!

I have no idea what are you guys talking about… I tend to outrun enemy NPC all the time. I use a skill or a dodge of course, but after that I just keep running. Centaurs or other naturally faster mobs obviously outrun the player.

The way I see it, not allowing for glass-cannons or tanks shows that Arena Net stayed true to getting rid of the holy-trinity. If you look at the lore behind the dungeons, the dangers within are feared by the inhabitants of Tyria! It would be silly for a group of adventurers to come by and have one of them simply stand in the face of the enemy laughing at his pathetic blows (tank). & the glass-cannon who just pulverizes the boss because he has been hard training for a month’s time.
When you say that building tanky allows for no more than taking 2 hits extra, I can only think of how that’s fine! Your stats and skills should synch as to allow you to alter your playstyle only enough to get down your combos while surviving, not regenerating to max HP. I do not want people to have the ability to change from a wrecking ball to a block of god-metal. This forces people into pro-builds & into 1 to 3 very specific ways of playing each class.
Right now, it comes down to positioning and strategy, not build. Games where builds are do-or-die fail to keep me and my friends interested for long.
Guild Wars 2 is where it is at
@Tusuri
So, bringing it back to gaming, I have a (for me) hard day, and I want a EASY button I WIN mode. If GW2 isn’t it, so be it.
After reading your post, I can say for certain that a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, a competitive and social game, is not the game for you. An easy-mode as you describe it will kill Guild Wars for reasons stated above by other players. God-mode is available to you in other games than this one.
This post is not meant to be demeaning, I just want to steer you to a happier environment and potentially save my own happy ecosystem (game).
I am actually a fan of permanent changes to the world! It makes the world of Tyria feel much more alive. I wouldn’t mind seeing the lion return but hopefully not for a while.
I am excited for the Lost Shore with the same opinion!
Hey Nekroseth,
My answer to your post is that you’re looking for a different fantasy than Guild Wars 2 has to offer. My suggestion to you is to immerse yourself in the world of Tyria and love it for it’s very own take on fantasy!
The present events (dialogs, chatter, war) which take place in-game are so well fleshed out that you learn about the history and geography of Tyria simply by playing the game. If you want to be even more in-tune with the world I suggest reading the lore of Guild Wars.
Personally, I do not want to see “traditional” fantasy features in Tyria out of fear of it becoming too comparable to other fantasy worlds.

The personality meter allows you to further create the character that you want to be playing. If you’re invested in your character’s story, you’ll enjoy it! If you’re not, well then it doesn’t matter what your character says anyways, does it?

Hey guys,
I used the think the same thing! I have come to realize that the respawn rates makes sense if you look into it!
Here’s the deal: If it’s a cave crawling with Skritts and a single adventurer walks on in, he should not be able to take them all out single-handedly! It should and does take a group-sized army to kill off the Skritts in a short enough amount of time to synchronize their respawn rates! When you manage to fight off 3 to 5 of them on your own, good job! But others will have noticed!
In a MMORPG, respawn rates allow for the impression of a larger number of enemy forces without having them all crammed up in a tight spot.
Here’s to hoping other players can share my opinion!

As it is right now, patches only roll around once a week. However, there are MANY bugs still in the game and a lot are pretty game breaking at times. Rather than lump all the fixes onto one day of the week, release them when they’re done. This has been done on a few occasions, but I feel that they need to loosen up their requirements for what deserves a hotfix and what deserves to be released on path day.
A developer that has many kinks to work out, as you say, can only do so much in a short amount of time. Once a week is spectacular in my eyes.
Just sayin’…

And why should PvE be held back for the sake of PvP balance? I don’t care about PvP one bit, while you clearly favor it to PvE. I could go on talking about how you should go play LoL if you want “that garbage”, but I won’t because I feel like those two aspects of the game don’t have to step on each other’s feet, but still have plenty of room to grow. Make WvW separate, like SPvP for all I care. I just want more interesting PvE.
Of all the MMORPGs I have ever played, Guild Wars is the first to put PvP first and PvE second. I have always enjoyed PvP in other MMORPGs but have always complained to friends of it being impossible to balance correctly as long as PvE was prioritized when dealing with skills and game mechanics. PvE will eventually be more interesting to your liking, I’m sure, but please give it time.

My favorite moment in the game so far is when I was adventuring in Gendarran Fields [I believe] and I had walked by a town and the citizens were talking about how everything was well. I continued my adventure elsewhere when an event popped-up on my screen. I ran back to the town and when I got there I saw a giant Cyclops attacking the village with dozens of players fighting him off! I joined the battle and after tons of downings and ressurections we managed to take him down. The NPCs thanks and the player thanks made me feel part of a large community!

Haha wow. So many talking as if this is the Messiah of MMOs. As of the chosen people have finally reached their long awaited holy land, where they can finally have FUN and use their SKILLS.
Hilarious.
Why must you scoff at the players who are enjoying Guild Wars 2? They are voicing their opinion on the subject just as you are. Even if in your honest opinion you believe to have run out of content, that does not automatically mean that the game is flawed. Many times now I have read posts explaining that Guild Wars had a fluctuating player base according to content releases. That sounds like just what you’re looking for Dynamite. More things to do.

Hey Joshua,
Guild Wars 2 may not have mana or other energy to manage, but its system works.
Players now have to deal with opportunity costs: “Which skill do I take the time to cast instead of casting a different skill? Which is more useful to me right now?”
As for skills that do not have cast times, they still cost time due to cast animations.

Hey Dee Jay,
I would like to offer my own opinion regarding some of the points on your patch wish-list.
Mobs
-The singling out of a single player feels realistic: It makes sense to single-out an enemy and focus them until they are downed. It is basically the mobs version of Ctrl-T-ing the players.
-The bleed cap being infinite is not possible unless bleeds see a nerf.
-For better loot according to length of battle, this feature would be exploited. Guaranteed.
Waypoints
-Players should try to make money at higher levels in other ways than grinding. Refrain from using waypoints for every travel too. Personally I think it is fine.\
Dynamic Events
-Addressing people’s complaint of DEs restarting too quickly: It is not because players have killed off 100 centaur that the entire centaur population of the area have been wiped out.
Dungeons
-Bosses cannot offer a rare loot at the end everytime because loot is individual in this game (vs. shared).
Downed State
-An option to “go out in style” will see impatient players making selfish decisions instead of team decisions.
-It is more natural to make a mob finish off a down player than not. That is what an intelligent AI would do.
sPvP
-A 2 second finish allows for too many ressurects in hectic combat. 3 seconds forces players to judge what actions to prioritize.
tPvP
-This game is meant to be based around skill, not team composition. I would be much less likely to participate in tPvP if my team comp decided outcomes: I think being able to readjust your “spec” is fine.
My hope is that ArenaNet sticks to their philosophies and keep things the way they are while adjusting things rather than flat out changing them.

Hey guys,
I’m in my early 20s and I don’t see myself changing to another game anytime soon.
I have been playing MMORPGs for roughly 6 years and I have never looked to be on top of the player food chain in any of the games that I have played.
Right now with school I do not have as much time as I used to for video games and I love that I can jump into Guild Wars 2 and not be losing “the race”. I think it is amazing that I am already enjoying “end-game” gameplay (with a little less complexity/customization).
To anyone complaining about the lack of progression or carrot at “end-game”: I am oh-so-glad that gear will not be making up for your lack of skill in PvP. Same goes for dungeons: It just seems normal that an enemy twice your size takes you down in one blow. Outplaying another player or NPC is so rewarding in Guild Wars 2! Everyone needs to look at the game for what it is and stop looking at it for what it is not.
