elementalist is like playing a glass cannon without the cannon part

I’ve been feeling that exact way and telling my friends. My elementalist friend agrees. We seem to do okay when there’s large groups of friendlies distracting enemies and when the fights are prolonged, but with such poor survivability the solo fights rarely last long enough for our damage to catch up…. Except when the Fiery Greatsword elite skill is off cooldown.

My biggest issues with underwater combat are:
1. Lack of bleed/conditional damage options since that’s my primary spec. (primary fire earth seems entirely ineffective compared to lightning underwater)
2. The fact that my abilities often over- or under-shoot enemies and that I can do nothing to compensate for this.

Story Quests: How do I solo 10 mobs?

All of the NPC’s die during the opening cutscene or shortly thereafter and I keep finding myself having to solo 10 mobs.

What the heck am I supposed to do?

Spec’d 20/0/30/20/0 using scepter/dagger ATM for the best survivability I could find, but even 1-2 mobs in story quests tend to kill me in a matter of seconds. Geared for power/condition damage/vitality. Full carrion gear and accessories.

Kiting is rarely an option, so I’m totally lost as to how I’m supposed to beat the story quests without chain-dying about 20 times and incurring so large of a repair bill that the story quests are making me go broke.

My friends don’t believe how little money I have. When I tell them, they’re like “go do story quests, you get tons of gold!” Then again, most of my friends play Warriors, Guardians, and Hunters. Their unintended taunting is starting to get to me.

I keep dying. What am I doing wrong?

Spec straight-up earth. Mix with water and a little bit of fire.

Earth gives you decent AOE and survivability. Gear for condition damage/vitality/toughness/power.

I like to use Cantrips because those give you nice buffs and more survivability.

Allow Cooked Items To Be Vendored

They take up too much space in our bags. There’s hundreds of recipes and none of them stack or go into a collectibles slot. Offloading them to the trading post is not doing anything but flood the economy because the prices are plummeting to 0c with no minimum value.

I’ve seen items that cost 32c and ~.8 karma to craft on the TP for 2 copper. Assuming the TP takes out 1c on the front-end and 1c on the back-end the items are basically just breaking even on the cost to sell the item (not even including the mats!). But then nobody actually wants (or buys?) the items because nobody can search by stats or knows what the food is called.

I’m a level 400 chef and I can’t even figure out which items in my recipe book people would want (no stat search) so I can’t imagine how people are expected to buy things off the TP.

I’ve spent the majority of my money trying to max out cooking thinking I’d turn a profit at max level, only to find out that the cooked food is selling for literally 1/10th to 1/50th of the sum of the value of the mats, with no orders placed and 4k+ of the item on the TP.

Please do something. This was a pain to level and I powered through it telling myself it would be worth it in the end, but all I’m left with is an empty wallet, no customers, and wasted bag space.

Please buy food! Support your starving chefs.
