Request/hope for Hearts and Minds

Well. Hope can probably be defined as ‘unreasonable optimism’, yes.

I didn’t forget LS3, but you CAN go from the Zhaitan arc straight into HoT. I kind of figured that this would also be true of PoF; that if you’ve beaten HoT, you can go straight into PoF, whether or not you’ve unlocked all of LS3.

Natch, I can’t know that until PoF actually comes out, but – that was my guess.

As far as I know, checkpoints may be a thing in LS3, but they haven’t been put into older content. You screw up in Hearts and Minds, it can be a very long slog.

I know. Anet’s moving on to PoF. But I remember when the Zhaitan fight was difficult/nigh impossible to solo, and then it got redone, and now it’s entirely soloable. And my guess has always been that Anet didn’t want that fight to become a barrier to people ever playing LS2/HoT.

Well, with PoF coming out, Hearts and Minds is now becoming a barrier to people who want to take their story into the new content.

I won’t ask y’all to nerf it. (Although frankly, I would not at all mind if you did.) But I’ve been through it on my main and several alts now, and seriously, Anet, you need to at least poke at doing a few things here before the floodgates open and people just want to continue their story:

  • Debug the thing. I mean really debug the thing. Every time I’ve thought ‘oh, it’s been ages, surely Anet’s fixed that by now’, I’ve either tried taking an alt through or gone to help someone else through, and someone is always sidelined (sometimes nixing the whole instance) due to bugs. Just getting a bug-free run, however frustrating, is a bonus.
  • At least consider putting story checkpoints in. It’s a long kitten fight. Doing it over from the beginning should be something reserved for the most beautifully aptly named achievement on this game – Migraine.
  • Either recolor those updrafts or stick some bouncing mushrooms in there. The first option if you’re dead set on Not Nerfing, the second if you’re okay with a tiny nerf. People invariably die because their graphics settings don’t let them see the updrafts. (And I wish I knew what settings to call out when that happens, but I don’t.)

…Honestly, I feel if the instance were just thoroughly debugged and checkpoints put in, players would have a far, far less frustrating time of this. It’s an elder dragon! It’s supposed to be hard! You shouldn’t be surprised if you die! But negating all forward progress, and all hope of forward progress…that just leaves people frustrated.

You’ve still got – what, two weeks? At least give it a thought?

shrug I’m a (female) internet oldbie. So for me, if I’m playing predominantly male PCs, it’s because I’m getting hit on whenever I play as female. I doubt I’d go on WoW playing a female toon, forex.

GW2, it’s split about evenly, mostly so I can see how skins work on the different toons.

So... Balthazar plot hole? (spoilers)

in Living World

Posted by: Larathia.5284

Larathia.5284

What we know from the last episode of LS3 is that Balthazar plundered the reliquaries. The other gods didn’t give him anything – he took their relics.

We know what he did with the mirror of Lyssa.

My guess would be that’s a) not at all the ONLY relic he stole, and b) we’re going to find out what those other relics are in quite probably the most unpleasant possible ways. But it doesn’t seem improbable to guess that at least one of them lets him learn the secrets of others. I mean…Abbadon, (Or would it now be Kormir?)

Larathia.5284

I absolutely wouldn’t mind the LS3 masteries being around in non-exclusive formats. I mean yes! Absolutely! If you have the right mount and the right mount mastery, that should be the best way of getting around a PoF map! But it doesn’t have to be the only way.

I’d love to see bouncing mushrooms pop up here and there on Core Tyria maps, forex. Not needed, but maybe a way to cut down time for the adventurer in a rush. Same for thermal tubes. They’re not NEEDED. But having them there gives those that bought the content and mastered the masteries a shortcut. (Or maybe just a cool way to get from A to B that isn’t really a shortcut, just cool.)

I’m absolutely not suggesting that ANet set things up so you’d HAVE to have bought LS3 or HoT to get somewhere. I’m just…really hoping that the options are included, really. Just to get some added mileage out of having done that content.

Larathia.5284

I’m really glad that some of the LS3 masteries are useful everywhere. (Like the downed skill. That’s really useful.) But what about the others? The aerial combat one, the oakheart mastery, the ‘fire yourself out of a lava chute’ one?

Are these now useless? Ways to only get around those specific maps?

Will there be oakheart things added to Core Tyria maps, or HoT maps? Will they be on PoF maps at all? What about the lava chutes? Some of those masteries were expensive, and it would be really nice if they could be used here and there on other maps. (And aerial combat. WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT WORK OUTSIDE BLOODSTONE FEN. SOMEWHERE. ANYWHERE.)

Are there any plans at all to EVER put these options into other maps? (Like adding gliding to Core Tyria?) Or are they forever going to be hugely expensive niche skills?

Kingpin slayer?

By that reckoning, then, my character’s bugged. Okay. That’s what I needed to know – because I’ve killed a lot of those “kill the kingpin” veteran kingpin events and whether I get credit toward the daily has always been up in the air.

Larathia.5284

Okay I’m going to ask here, since I’m not sure if this is a bug or what it is I’m doing wrong.

I can not get the Kingpin Slayer daily done. I’ve killed quite a lot of kingpins, but they rarely count for the daily and I have no idea why.

Yes, I finished Rose’s journal and challenged the kingpin that killed her.

  • “five event Kingpins”. Are there specific events for this, that aren’t just “kill the kingpin” events?
  • Do you have to have powered the shrine or finished refilling the god’s heart quest that day before it counts?
  • Does a kingpin in a given god’s area only count once?
  • Is this just bugged all to hell and back in my case and they’re ALL supposed to count but for whatever reason just aren’t?

Mouse problems

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Larathia.5284

For the past several days I’ve been running into ‘left click’ mouse problems on the game. I’ll double click and it won’t register at all (which makes opening bags a pain) or I’ll double click and it will use three or four of an item (very bad with food/utility). Or I’ll single click to drag something to a new position (inventory sorting/bank stuff) and it’ll let the item go or drop it somewhere I did not want it to be.

I thought ‘maybe this is just my mouse’ but I have this problem on two entirely separate computers. I thought ‘maybe it’s lag’ but I can do other things just fine. It’s my account somehow. Please advise?

EOTM Should Award Pips.

in WvW

Posted by: Larathia.5284

Larathia.5284

I honestly do not understand why EotM gets this level of hate. Nobody plays it because everyone says it’s the ‘lobby’ and ‘where K-trainers go to die’ and honestly? When people are ON THE MAP (you know, the way they’re on the BL maps and EB) EotM isn’t easier than the borderlands maps. It’s harder. You’re dealing with irregular terain, bottlenecks where AoEs can do huge damage, lots of roaming mobs (that roam in groups and often are not at all easy for a solo roamer to take out). Reactors limit the amount of supply you can carry, so even if you’re part of a zerg you can’t just PUT ALL THE SIEGE EVERYWHERE the way they do in borderlands maps. And control of a team keep confers bonuses that you lose if you lose the keep. On top of all this there’s monster-guarded shortcuts that can make a given keep easier to attack/harder to defend, and situational items that only work while your side controls the champion that hands them out.

The only reason it’s a K-train party is because all the ‘regular’ WvWers pooh-pooh and refuse to go there. If you all ever treated Edge the way you do the Borderlands you’d quickly start thinking of it as ‘WvW challenge mote’. But nobody plays it, because it’s not counted as part of the War Score, and the only real benefit your server gets for winning on it is some supply drops. And on the individual level, no pips.

Spirit shards?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Larathia.5284

Larathia.5284

Hm. Thank you! It seems odd to have it that way, since we’re always told PvE players ’don’t need’ raids. So I always considered that branch optional since it starts out locked.

I’ll see how many mastery points I have left after the last S3 ep comes out, then, and once that’s done I’ll …honestly probably have to pay someone to take me through that escort thing given how raiders feel about their raid wings. But at least it’ll be done after that.

Spirit shards?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Larathia.5284

I’m asking out of pure curiosity at this point, as I’ve never been able to tell if this is a bug or not.

When you aren’t working on a mastery in core Tyria, exp goes toward your next ‘level’, ie your next spirit shard.

I’ve got all the non-raid masteries in HoT, and I can’t unlock the raid masteries because frankly that would apparently require I work the day shift. So the whole little raid tree’s been locked to me, but I’ve got all the others, and the only time I’m learning a new mastery is when there’s a new LW story out.

Never any spirit shards in HoT. Am I supposed to get them, when I’m not working on masteries? Do I only get them if, like my core Tyria set, I’ve got ALL of them, raid masteries included? Have I been getting them regularly all along and just never noticed because the little exp meter at the bottom of my screen doesn’t move?

Absolutely. If you’re going to be the kind of player that gets in a fritz after a wipe (or two, or three) because you MUST get through the whatever (fractal, dungeon, raid) as fast as possible…just effing say so on the LFG. Or get some friends you won’t yell at.

I’ve learned to avoid dungeon LFGs that say ‘fast’, forex. I don’t need the headache and neither do they. I welcome the ‘casual’ tag or comments like ‘howevermany wipes’ because those are the players I love grouping with.

2) When and where I can preorder so I can freakin’ GIVE ANET MY MONEY ALREADY.

The curse of playing Ranger

in Ranger

Posted by: Larathia.5284

Same. I love my Ranger, and I’ve gotten good enough with it that a very good player once told me ‘yep, ranger is your tanky class’ because he kept getting downed and killed, whereas I might get downed, but was never killed. Okay, I don’t do max DPS and I do not do traps often (I much prefer being a ranged ranger) but I can not only solo a lot of content but get the achieves for it as well.

I’ve tried other classes, but I always wind up missing some aspect of being a Ranger when I do.

I actually enjoy dungeons when I can, but where I run into trouble is people expect you to know the mechanics even if you’ve a) never done that path before, or b) maybe did do that path once two months ago. If there are mechanics I have a hard time finding groups that won’t just boot me for not knowing them already.

I’ve done every dungeon path once. ONCE. Took two years to do that much and I am still very hazy on the specific mechanics of most. Usually I wind up taking the default approach of ‘hit it with everything you have and try not to die’.

I’ve died repeatedly because I couldn’t run past the trash. (Been booted for that, too.)

Yes, dungeons are lucrative and they can be fun, but not when the party you’re with just wants to get in and out as fast as possible.

Mostly the same goes for fractals. I can do T4, but I actually stopped doing fractals at all at that point because T4 was where I ran into a huge amount of “we clear this thing perfectly in five minutes or people start leaving/getting kicked”. It stopped being fun so I stopped doing it, profit be kitten ed.

My experiences in both have had me eyeing raids like a vanilla lover eyes a BDSM closet. I mean learning new things is great! But…am I game for that much grief from other players?

Usually, no.

I’d love invisible shoes just because I think a lot of charr shoes look ridiculous.

But what I’d pay good cash money for is an invisible backpack skin. So many times I’ve managed to make an outfit for a given character that I’m pleased with, only to find I really don’t like ANY of the backpacks. I mean I need one, for stats, but I don’t want to see one on every alt.

See, I thought Meatoberfest too, but (knowing the event is year-round because event) isn’t it supposedly in October? And we have October covered – The Mad King pops up in October, kicking off the fall-winter-spring set of festivals.

Summer festival?

Larathia.5284

Okay, well, if we want a ‘new’ festival…what about something honoring Trahearne or the Pale Tree in the summer? You know, the big growing season, plant people? It could be like the Japanese thing where they chart blooming cherry trees in the spring? Only maybe the Pale Tree blooms once a year in summer or something? Sylvari would find that something to celebrate.

Mad King, Wintersday and New Year are all in Kryta, SAB is in Metrica. We could do sylvari, or norn (maybe norn have a midsummer festival around ‘the time of year when the sun doesn’t set AT ALL’, they’re probably far enough north for that) Or charr have a fireworks contest that involves fireworks AND blowing things up…

I mean just as off-the-top-of-my-head ideas. I’d honestly love to see old festivals that were held in the summer return, but since I didn’t start playing until they passed on, that’s more curiosity than nostalgia. I could totally love new festivals just as much.

Summer festival?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Larathia.5284

Larathia.5284

Possibly an odd request, I know. But I’ve actually come to enjoy the festival seasons. The only problem is, there’s a huge festival drought during the summer!

It goes: Mad King -> Wintersday -> New Year -> SAB.

And then nothing between SAB and the next Mad King festival, which means nothing from May through October.

The wiki says there used to be festivals during the summer, but they’ve been discontinued? Could we bring them back, or come up with a new one? (Or two, really. Maybe one in June/July and one in August/September. By which I mean ‘late june/early july’ and ‘late august/early september.’ If just one, then late July or so?)

Not that I’m not loving the new content, because I really am, but I also enjoy working through festival achieves and activities. A drought from May to October seems a bit long?

LS3 and masteries

in Living World

Posted by: Larathia.5284

Larathia.5284

I realize this may be a strange or silly question, but such is the way my mind works.

Why are the LS3 maps using HOT mastery points/exp? I mean Bloodstone Fen made sense, it’s right by Verdant Brink and visually, still part of the Maguuma Jungle. But Lake Doric? It’s right by Divinity’s Reach. And Bitterfrost Frontier, that’s in the Shiverpeaks. Why do they use Heart of Thorns exp/masteries?

The only guess I have is maybe if you didn’t buy Heart of Thorns, you can’t play LS3? But if that’s the case, is there to be no further development of Central Tyrian masteries, or new ways to receive Central Tyrian mastery points?
