D/P is absolutely and arguably the most viable thief build available. Looks to me like you’re using a WvW build.

Divinity runes got nerfed so they’re pretty much worthless to have. Those need to be switched with something like scholars or strength.

The traits look a bit off, but overall not unreasonable. You’re kind of riding an awkward setup in the Critical Strikes line. SA is fine, though some people prefer hidden thief over infusion. Thrill of the Crime is a much better choice in the Trickery line over long reach.

I’m not sure what utilities you run, but I think your crit strikes line could look something more like 1/6/12, or if you still prefer, 3/6/11, depending on what you’re trying to do. I’m under the assumption you’re not using a build with more than one signet and are probably focusing on backstabbing for damage, thus ruling out the usefulness of signet use with an emphasis on securing critical attacks.

If you’re in sPvP, you’re out of luck on stab builds altogether. Most thieves now use builds focusing on Acrobatics and Trickery to stack might and turn fights from even numbers into favorable numbers/finish foes off. The thief is very weak in sPvP at the moment.

For WvW, dire condition builds are the roaming meta; so you’re fighting substantially tankier targets than you probably were a year+ ago when most roaming players were also in berserker stats. You’re also running cavalier armor which will reduce your power stat and subsequently cut damage. Ferocity, when it was implemented, nerfed critical damage dealt by around 15%, so that is also cutting your damage.

Huge-damage stab builds are pretty much locked into signets, which you can find my build posted in the “Show your thief build” stickied thread here. I do believe mine was posted fairly recently so it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

The meta has evolved and players have gotten more skilled to better counter thieves in general. Currently the class is in a weird limbo of having the best PvE damage in the game while suffering in the PvP formats from utility problems and previous damage nerfs paired with metas based around more or less durability and the exploitation of gimmicky mechanics which the thief has few ways to deal with.

Ah yes, I am using a World vs World build and the divinity runes cost me 10gold each back in the day… What a rip.

For the Crit stikes line, I implemented 3/6/12 because I didn’t like the fury for 11 seconds with a 30 second cooldown. I wanted something that lasted throughout the battle and gave me an upper edge in crits. As you have correctly guessed my main damage comes off of back stabs and 100% crit strike from stealth gives an added edge to that.

The notion my build was developed on around was to get the most out of crit damage/percentage and yet be somewhat tanky so I could live long enough for a small scrimmage. From what you’ve noted, is it better to buy new armor without ferocity? Do you think ferocity is a big of a game changer?

So it’s been about a year since I’ve last played and I’m returning with the same old equipment that I left with.

My current setup is d/p:
0
6 – 3, 6, 8
6 – 4, 5, 11
2 – 6
0

With equipment (inc trinkets) being a mixture of:
- power, vitality, ferocity
- power precision, toughness
- sup runes of divinity
- note, all equipment is exotic and trinkets being ascended.

and weapons being power, precision and ferocity with runes of super sigil of air/accuracy.

Some other stats of mine:
2572 armor,
15255 hp,
219% crit dmg
55% crit chance

So the main point of this thread is that I’m returning with this equipment and I’d like to know if the d/p is still a viable build? What is the new go with builds and playing the assassin? I used to love the d/p build fighting against people as well as the backstab builds but it seems anet screwed me over and the D/P build no longer feels as useful as it used to?

Initiative is bad

The initiative system is great. I love it.
You can’t go around heart seeker spamming or else you will quickly run out of initiative. You need to learn how to conserve it.

If you’re constantly running into low initiative problems, I suggest you re-trait to gain quicker initiative regeneration and increase cap of initiative. Also consider using the Signet that provides you with 1 extra initiative per 10 seconds.

I once had huge issues with the initiative system but after learning how to conserve the it and by understanding other classes skills… you can learn when to time your attacks.

It’s available.
I bought a character change a few days ago and to my surprise ArenaNet didn’t make a huge fuss over it.
There is a hair change for 250 Gems and a full character overhaul (including gender) for 350 Gems.

I saw some people asking about it again (within 24hrs) on the forum so I decided to post it here…. in case it has not been realised by the community.

Server: Northern Shiverpeaks
When: Saturday, December 1st at 7pm EST

My guild (Supply and Demand) are preparing an assault on the temple at the aforementioned date and time and we would like as much help as possible in doing so. The priest is a kittenhole and it is our hope that we crush him with sheer numbers.

Depending on where the DE’s have progressed in the Straits at that time, my guild and I will act accordingly, dividing our numbers to ensure the North and South make it to Rally Waypoint. If you wish to assist, just show up in the Straits and pay attention to the chat.

We will routinely make callouts concerning who needs help and where apart from our own teamspeak channel so outsiders need not worry about not knowing whats going on and where.

Save any karma boosts/jugs you may have until we have control of the temple in the event things bug out beyond our control to fix. If and when we get there my guild will drop the appropriate banners for everyone. I also will update the “Uncontested….” thread IF we are successful.

So come on out saturday night and lets take him down!

Also, an important question….
How many people do you have in your guild?
I was in Sea of Sorrows and there was roughly 30 people on the map doing this quest yet we failed. We only brought him to about 50% health in the given time limit. So I assume you would need at least 60 people… with that being tough.

Best Dungeon Build?

I’ve tried full condition build with Rampager’s equipment and relevant jewels for FoTM as well as my usual Beserkers Build. I find the condition fairly…. bad for me? I don’t really see much condition damage being done and am disappointed with only 100hp from say bleeding/poison. It’s especially bad for PvP against condition removalists and guardians…

Anyways, Beserkers deals a crap tonne of damage. I honestly love the damage of crit when mixed with Dagger storm against large mobs. The drawback with this (three-fold more damage than condition?) is that you die two times more. I’ve used beserkers in FOTM from tier 8-11. Rampagers was used from 1-7.

Also, your build may be important; however, its also your play-style which factors in how well you do. It’s probably best kiting for dungeons and not charging in like a burst thief would do in a 1v1. I generally use p/p or shortbow to damage and keep my distance. Then when the aggro is off me, I’ll run in with either d/d or s/p to do a burst damage with shadowstep, then get the hell out!

If you’re only level 13 then I’d suggest traiting up towards power/attack. It makes it so much easier to quickly and efficiently kill your mobs. I leveled up to about 60 with condition build and it was a pain. I leveled the last 20 with crit build and it was much better. Maybe it was jut for me? Why not try it out? But it’s kinda hard since you’re so low on level and trait points….

Yes, as many other members have already expressed…. the community in this large one-time event was overwhelmingly helpful. I enjoyed the notion of everyone trying to help one another until ANet decided to screw us all over.

I didn’t try for 10 hours like someone did but I did try for about 4 hours.
In the beginning I was the first one to attack the monster and then everyone else came. I then started lagging to over 1 minute of delay! Then the server D/C’d me and kicked me from it. I then later tried at a different time because I wouldn’t be able to get any kills, hits, money because of the extreme latency issue.

Key issues which irk me:

  • Timing of the ‘one-time’ event. Maybe consider doing a “two-time” event where they are spread out by 6 hours or so? This would allow some flexibility for players. Also plan the event on a Saturday Midday/Afternoon for PST. That way, its Sunday in Australia and maybe Friday evening in other areas?
  • Latency. Says it all? Fix it. There was even a point where we all rushed in and died. The entire zerg died because the vets and champions didn’t load on our screen and rolled us.
  • Overflow bug(?). If you’re going to patch the bug, do it as soon as the events are over. Not after a huge time gap where we can continue to try and get to the end… only to be disconnected after your “unchanged content” new build update. Don’t lie.

Disappointed. ArenaNet has redefined this word.
